This post is directed at Perfect World and I dont mean Bran (god knows that guy has had enough flack for a lifetime)
Things were never perfect in the Cryptic universe but they did move forward (sort of). There were bugs that made to live despite test builds being made available on tribble and yes players did miss them too (nobody is perfect after all).
So what am I getting at,
The last couple of weeks builds have hit the test server and within 24 hours then hit live with bugs akimbo, the site/account change and forum (ahem) upgrade. Seems to me to be pushed from another source i.e. our new Perfect World overlords.
So the question is this;
Would one of the seemingly cluless suits get off his or her high horse for a moment and grace us with their presence and help us to understand the changes that are afoot. AND please for the love of all that's holy, please stop deciding that you know better than me what I enjoy doing in MMO's. If you really wanted to know you would ask!
PS open to edit as I'm pretty damn sure I missed a couple of things
You're not going to get the suits in here. I point yet again to the quarterly conference call where all that was discussed was the bottom line. There was nothing about customer retention or churn or satisfaction or anything like that.
It sounded like they were using a different Q&A process. So its understandable, albeit disappointing, that bugs did get in, especially the Armitage. However, I think I heard/read that they will revise that process again.
As for the forums... ?????????????????????????????????
I've handled forum switch overs for smaller communities before (much smaller). But I always ensured the new code was tested to ensure quality consistency. I mean they're using a 4 year out-of-date version of vBulletin. Its tantamount to negligence.

I've seen many companies using older versions of software just because it's already connected with their systems. There was account changes from the 3.7x branch of vb to what is out today. Its probably more of a pain in the tooshie to upgrade the versions than just make sure it's secure

That explains a lot. Wowzers, with a company like PWE, you'd think they'd have at least some budget to upgrade forum software, especially with customer migrating over from Cryptic, a forums-heavy community.

I don't care how long you've been playing. I only care about how you play.
And remember to follow the rules.

This. Linux LTS, sure. Company portals that force you to use IE6, no.

It looks like they're taking the "chop out functionality" rather than "update the software" approach to any security concerns. >_<

Is it possible that the (Extended Maintenance)x3 that we witnessed the other day faced more problems than anyone is talking about, and that THIS Forum is NOT the one originally intended ?

if you look at the older posts, you'll note alot of artifacts in the content. I have a feeling that they messed up the export or the import because of different charsets between the 2 different databases and this was the best that they could do.
But yes, stopping where they were and going back would have probably been better than saying "well there was a security problem"
When you consider that Cryptic is the R&D for PWE, Cryptic may one day succeed at killing the mighty Star Trek game IP and PWE all with the same incompetent stone.
