Yet another sad day in STO history...

captainconradcaptainconrad Member Posts: 48 Arc User
Merging the accounts is one thing. I understand if PWE wants to simplify things, but reconstruction the website sto.perfectworld was completely unnecessary... All well I guess... I'll adapt... going to miss my name looking the way it's supposed to... gonna miss being able to give my suggestions and actually make a difference in the game... PWE this kind of micromanaging is how you get people to hate you... fast.

Your join date is set from when you first post on the forums. So if you didn't post until July, it'd be Jul 2012.

I've read the posts about how people are not happy for this and that...Give me a break..it's just a game.... The changes PWE have made are for the better. The website looks much much better and the game is fixing to have what sounds like a tremendous season 6 release (the star base alerts sounds great, PVP fix...yes!).

So people quit your moaning and groaning and just play a good FREE game and quit ******** so much ----let the people at PWE do their job. If you are unhappy then leave....OR wise up play the game and have fun.

    PWE.........KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

    1) Changes by PWE are not for the best, they are flawed and not well implemented thus far.
    2) I am also looking forward to season 6, but this has nothing to do with account linking, which is also flawed.
    3) This game is not free for those who chose to pay for it and thus actually support it and make things happen

The linking of the accounts has not been well implemented creating several issues. For one, you can't use your account name so you have to create a new one which might get confusing on the forums. Also, they promissed a reward for creating a PWE account, which they fail to actually give you thus far. On top of that, logging into the game using the option to use your Cryptic account is no longer possible. Also, I can's access all forum options since PWE chose to erase my history and set my account subscription days back to 0, while I have been a member of STO and Cryptic for years.

I know all these... complaints, might get fixed soon (or so I hope), but as far as I know it is usually wise to test changes before implementing them, causing failures and TRIBBLE off those people who actually pay you for some quality.

Also, it would be nice to be able to send in a ticket while clicking the submit ticket option... so far, that page can't be accessed since the revamp.

    I say Boo PWE, boooooo.....!

I've spent a lot of money on this game, so you'll excuse me but I have the right to complain about the product I've invested in.

Before I abandon the game, I'd rather let them know how unhappy I am in the (slight) hope that it encourages them to change their decision-making.

Eh, I had an early join date, too. But I'm not all that attached to it.

If you ask me, we're better off. There were too many people pointing at their Join Date as if that made them among the universe's most advanced lifeforms.

I'd say the same about the Career Officer tag, but people (not me) did pay for that and as such they ought to be able to keep it.
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here

i can see the need to merge the account system , makes easier transition to purchasing system PWE uses. but i feel this was poorly planned in the merging of the forums . from the lame selection of avatars to the joined dates and posts and of coarse any change in forum identity . theres a ton of history on the old forum .

im greatly disappointed in how this turned out .

Apparently, someone doesn't remember their true track record. Let face it they blew this one. For me and a lot of others this was a waste of resources to rebuild a site that only needed a couple of adjustments. The site now takes too long to load and looks really lame as a result of enforced uniformity. As far as season 6 goes I am not excited for it, Star bases are just an avoidance of a problem that needs to be addressed. Non time gated missions on a consistent basis, and a revamp for a half finished faction.

To those of you who agree, I acknowledge your responses. You all make VERY valid points. The website was fine. In fact it was very flashy in the way a game site should be. Now it's just another website and the lack of customization with avatars and everything else makes it that much more dull and grey.

Which brings me to the lot of you who disagree. If I had to guess, you're the guy who voted for someone in the hopes that you would never have to work again. That we were all going to be equals and all them rich guys who actually do work were going to get their dues and owe you the money you for some reason deserve, right? Just like all of us Gold players and lifers owe you respect for some reason, right? Cause we're somehow equals now? WRONG!!! The join date is important because it shows who's been around a while. It's there so you can ask those who have been playing for advice and to ask what life was like before PWE. We're basically the elders of STO and when we see our forum display a join date of June 2012, that's basically taking someone's service record and tossing it into a fire pit. We spent long hours playing this game and giving suggestions to help tweak it. Oh yes, believe it or not there was a time when your suggestions were actually heard and made a difference. Example: I suggested a challenge mode for PvP. Basically you could fly up to anyone and challenge them in combat. It didn't come out the EXACT way I suggested, which was to be expected, but a PvP challenge mode was released. Ever since this PWE takeover it's been a slow transition into how can PWE squeeze money out of the players. This game did not need that. It was doing fine on its own. And don't tell me otherwise. Atari's collapse was because Atari failed as a company. If it was Cryptic that failed, the servers would have been shut down. Is that a better alternate? With each passing day under PWE's rule, I'm starting to think it is

actaully I disagree. I had people cop the same attitude in game.

The thing about the date was it didnt make people special. It just gave you a clue they have been around. So if they are really pissed about its probably been brewing for a while or its actually something the devs may have screwed up. I would take that more seriously than someone griping who joined well after FTP is probably an over sugared tween saying X thing sucks. It also help when getting advice on game systems. Someone around since 2010 is probably a more authoritative source than someone from May.

Another example is KDF play. People who joined before a certain date had to level a toon from the get go. So people who have been around know all the changes that have happened over the years.

A corallary would be post count. Like if I see someone has like 12K posts then I know they are a forum monkey and can disregard anything they say

The linked accounts doesn't really bug me that much. But redesigning the website was pointless - we could navigate easily, email notification worked, signatures allowed BB code, and we could tell each other apart through our avatars.

    Look at us now.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."
