the fed skin is noticable, although it's still kinda subtle
but
the kdf skin... what's different?

Now when are the going to sort out previous vet rewards? Like the options for Androids or the "Equal or better" replacement for removing the Emblem Vet reward that never happened.
I'm not really familiar with those particular ships, so I don't really see what's terribly different. Frankly it looks a lot like the Aegis set from what I can tell. (see my sig)
So far I'm not awestruck by awesomeness. It kinda looks like a same-old-same-old ship color-scheme that a lot of endgame players have already had on their ships for ages.

Yeah Cryptic, ppl remember stuff.
Well, you can't see it in those pictures... but maybe they finally got the KDF-specific windows working on B'rel! You know, so now when you apply them you'll get them on the WHOLE ship instead of just the body with the generic windows still plastered to your saucer...
It is similar to the AEGIS set in that it has blue (for FED) and red (for KDF) glows.
What is different is that the glows for these skins are underneath the armor plates instead of extra external neon lines and vent glows (also boussard hexagon effects). You will probably be able to combine the AEGIS and 900-day Vet skins for double neon.
Additionally these skins seem to have some sort of iridescent sheen to them. For the Feds, the skin looks like the base color is a darker bluish-gray with blue green iridescence, and the KDF skin looks like it may have a purplish red iridescence, but it's hard to tell on the Raptor because that thing is all flat panels and hard angles instead of the curves of the Star Cruiser..
So..what happens if you use this skin.....and the aegis set?

that is my problem as well.
Perhaps if it were shown on a smoother ship, like a D7 or Qin Raptor, it would look more obvious.

Tier sets hide hull patterns. So you display one or the other.
ALTHOUGH... Omega Force Space set only hides PART of the hull pattern.
My question is whether the vet hulls will work on lockbox ships.
The AEGIS set is 1) Not a Tier set, and 2) Does not hide your hull skin texture. It overlays the neon/glowy bits on top of the skin. Since the 900-day skin is a "skin" with already included glows, the AEGIS set will overlay its glows on top of the skin's glow.
Now when are the going to sort out previous vet rewards? Like the options for Androids or the "Equal or better" replacement for removing the Emblem Vet reward that never happened.

The Aegis gfx will replace whatever skin you have on your ship. Doesn't matter whether is it's Type 1 or the 900 day Veteran Skin.
Aegis has always overlaid not replaced. It doesn't make my Odyssey any less white nor my Sovereign any less grey. Unless this has changed recently and no one told me...

Pimp My Starship?
There's a ground costume at that tier too.
