I didn't hate the new Trek movie but it seemed like such a mediocre sci-fi movie that I think after the nostalgia effects that fans of the new Trek has wears off, they will look at it in the same light as most haters.
Three years isn't enough time?
Look, it's nostalgia that makes long term fanboys hate Nu Trek. The general public saw it for what it was: A summer popcorn flick.
The only problem with a Weadon directing Star Trek, is half the cast would be dead by the end of the movie. Mind you I wouldn't be opposed to any of the firefly crew appearing.

Typical fanatic nonsense, this.
I see your point, I'd like to dub the new Trek as "generic nostalgia". It had all the generic things Trek was known for (scotty saying "I'm giving it all she gots!", Kirk hooking up with a green chick, a red shirt dying, and everything else that the mainstream audiences thinks of when they think "Trek") although it didn't have the REAL essence of what Trek was (social commentary, innovative tech, non-gaping plot holes, yeah it had it's plot holes but they didn't stick out like a sore thumb).
So I see your point, but I think there enough nods to the original series to have SOME nostalgia.

What about LeVar Burton or Roxann Dawson? They directed alot of episodes and did fantastic jobs doing it too. I just want someone who knows and loves Star Trek. And as far as bad directors go JJ Abrahms, besides the lens flares, was better than that no name cowboy idiot who directed Nemesis.
Joel Surnow and Robert Cochrane. They did some pretty amazing things with 24, they could do some amazing things with Star Trek too. They're very adaptable writers, producers and directors.
Spielberg should be kept far away from Trek, guy ruins everything he's attached to.
I'm not really a Whedon fan, and couldn't stand Dark Knight so I wouldn't like to see Nolan do Trek.
Bryan Singer did an excellent job directing X2 and came up with the story for First Class, I think he's probably the best contender out of all those people that want Trek.
James Cameron, he has that flair and manic attention to detail.
Nine years from now you'd get a total-CGI, 3D eye candy Star Trek, and Cameron would declare himself the de facto expert on future space travel, much like he is apparently the new de facto expert on both the Titanic, and deep sea exploration.
So, everybody is always looking for one person to "Save the Franchise."
I think that is the wrong state of mind. Look at some of the greatest films, greatest episodes, greatest series, and you tend to find that they are a collabaration. Its several equals bouncing ideas off eachother and building a vision. When one person has complete or too much control things tend to break apart as they start to insert all kinds of their own crazy into it.
He just directed what is likely to become the highest grossing film of all time. He understands Sci-Fi. And he knows how to do character driven stories with multiple and diverse characters and multiple arcs.
I think a series filled with hopefulness would be needed and one director can't save the franchise. We need a strong creative team, many tv directors, and a great cast.
We need someone to pitch a show and give CBS a pitch that shows that it would be a security blanket for the franchise if the movies flop or receive terrible critical acclaim and give them a way for the to continue in a fresh new way that would bring in new viewers and old ones.
I wouldn't mind Whedon, Frakes, or Peter Jackson if he were as fanatical about staying as true to Trek as he did with LOTR to Tolkein's books. But whoever wants Spielberg is insane. He's too busy ruining Indiana Jones in the same manner Lucas has ruined and is still ruining Star Wars.
Director: Joss Wheadon
Writer: Manny Coto (I really liked where he was taking Enterprise in its 4th Season.)
I think that would be a winning move. Whedon as the director, and a good writer, because the best director can't save it unless he has a good writer on his side.

That would be WORSE than Uwe Boll.
There is no greater Epicness in the world of Movie Directors.
You mean Uwe "oh no what did he ruin this time" Boll?
*shudders*
Robert C. Cooper
Brad Wright
Ronald Dowl Moore
