PARENTAL ADVISORY: REDNECK FLEET!

Background:

Imagine cruisin' along the Alpha Quad searchin' fer rare alien ah'tifacts, then some good fer' nothing True Way Tellolist comes over yonder and does a stick up!

If your' True Blue Starfleet you'd probably spent the next 3 weeks cooped up in a forcefield with the bad guys while rescue comes along like Ol' Grandma, as shown on TV!

But what if you were a Redneck?

You just call 'The Boys' and we'll come rollin' with the Harley's and the Davidson's Cavalry and send them back across the border in a million pieces!

We Rednecks we take care of our people. It don't matter if you're one-day wonder fresh out from 'Frisco, ah'll be here to show you the ropes, and separate the Cow Pies from the real Space Cowboys!

REDNECK ACADEMY is all about mutual cooperation. From normal missions to the most infamous Great Borg Robberies of the 25th Century, we're ready and willing.

And if you're new, you're more than welcome to have a BBQ with us anytime, anyday. Ah think all newbies are good ol' Trekkies just like you and me. And YOU absolutely deserve the best training Starfleet kin put together.

You got the interest, ah'll bring the toys and more.

Are you afraid of joining an enormous Fleet? Can't stand bureaucracy and 3 week application periods?

Don't fret. Here at Redneck Academy, we don't leave our brahs hangin'.

You came to Star Trek Online to fly and fight as a member of an elite force. Be that Captain you always wanted to be. As a Redneck Captain, you'll just be yourself fifty times more awesome than prim and proper Starfleet instant noodle Admiral over there.

You'll even get to hang the most rootinest tootinest beam array a shootinest ****s this side of a Texas BBQ.

Features:

We don't have a website
We don't have a TS server
We don't have a forums

What we have are good men and women who'll never leave your wing till you call RTB. We're real world military historians, redneck engineers and petrolheads.

We can bring new pilots from zero to Hero in less time it takes to grill corn. Just joined yesterday? We don't care, Starfleet exists for your development and your benefit!

So be yourself and have fun. We run daily STFs, missions and anything you can think of in between. Maybe even some good ol fashioned roleplay, and we do it better than any RP guild out there :)

We just put the fun back into Star Trekkin'.

TRIBBLE will blow up al' right!

    Now some serious affiliances:

    1) We previously ran a Ladies' exclusive RP guild
    2) Ah train dem STF cadets better than most Starfleet Academies, using nothing but ol' man Clausewitz's good advice and then some. Colonel Sanders comes in real handy too!
    3) We help to operate and man Andrew Harnaman's STFRecruits cadet-friendly STF matchmaking and learning channel
    4) We run daily ops and 24/7 ops over the weekends.
    5) We do weekly video productions to prove that the most awesome STO pilots are none other than our NEWBIES :)

What really happened is that we wanted to create a fun newbie friendly experience to support STFRecruits plus our own cadre of new pilots and... oh no. Rednecks.

Bunch of the boys today did an operation today at the "southern borders" to counter the surge of illegal immigrants and drug traffickers. We may have tripped off our neighbour a bit. Not to worry, Federation diplomacy will soothe things tomorrow (Not today. Today is BBQ day.)

We also had a run in with the Borg, and well, look wthat we did to them!

Yeah but you don't see my good old gal Bianca donning her space suit and stringing the Socrates so she can play Dueling Banjos with the Borg.

Besides in space, noone can hear play the banjo anyway.

BTW, love what you labeled me as: Starship Researcher.

Curious to know how that title came around.

How about... Tier 3 science power Subspace Resonance Banjo. Debuff enemy morale and hull by 50% :D

    The title? By observation :3

Ah mostly because I play science oriented ships as a Science Officer.

That would be the most amazing power ever. I can imagine the Borg's response:

Sir the Borg are hailing us

We are Borg. We demand you to cease that disrespectful racket.

    Today's operations log

    My First Klingon PvP

Don't just fly blindly into battle. Look around the mission environment for any tactical or psychological advantage to use against your foes.

But if you -know- the enemy will fly blindly, lure them to hit the wrong target while keeping your trump cards hidden... until it's too late.

Emotions are also a Captain's worst enemy. They can also be a force multiplier if you can frustrate one of the enemy's ranks and cause them to break discipline.

Lastly, unconventional ship builds can be surprisingly effective because your ship then doesn't appear to act like it should. A tanking Bird of Prey for instance. It's doable if you know how to 'play' with your opponents' minds.

For the rest of this month, I focus on building science ships and employing them (in typical dramatic fashion) to dominate STF missions.

The key to science ships is flexibility. You're not going to rely solely on science to get the job done, but if you have the idea that a science ship is a sort of special warfare light cruiser... then you're going to discover a lot of untapped potential using them as fast attack craft. They don't deal impressive damage, but they can produce decent DPS, conduct effective riot control, and have about twice the tactical mobility of a cruiser.

I didn't mention anything about tanking... that's because with the science vessel shield bonus it's actually very easy to tank them if you know what you're doing.

Encoding has been fixed for last weekend's 'Fast Attack Science Vessel' shakedown cruise video.

    New link:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veDePT8mzgo

This ship build concept and video was (loosely) inspired by builders' trials footage for the US Navy's Littoral Combat Ship project.

Demonstrates for the first half, random awesomeness, and high speed long and short range skirmishing tactics for the remainder.

Now that I've concluded my 'fast attack science vessel' build, I'll be flying a variety of 'second rate' C-store ships over the next few weeks, starting with the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit.

It's mission will be to peacefully farm dilithium, and from time to time, be deployed to the Gamma Orionis theatre of operations to bravely serve the Federation as a makeshift battleship just as the Galaxy-class did during the Dominion Wars.

She will then lead task forces in PUGs to secure victory and shore up DPS-lacking teams in the engineering support role. Several newer players will also have an opportunity to learn a few new tricks to making use of a cruiser's extensive Engineering bridge officer slots for maximum offensive and defensive power.

Updates of this "Galaxy class Last Hurrah" will be posted in this thread in the Federation Shipyards forum:

We'll run a few ground STFs later this week and do the rest of the discussion in game, so we can have action along with the talk :)

I'll contact you when I get back "tomorrow morning" EST time. Same for CathexisZero too.

I don't run my space cowboy ops with any fleet tag, so you might find us giving you complete personal liberty and no liability to do anything other than log on to kick Borg *** :)

Ran joint STF and elite mission replays with 3 other Galaxy Rs today, followed by a Ground STF marathon.

While the ground bit is unremarkable grunt work (standard issue PUG command and control) the space bit was far more interesting in that unconventional ship builds were constantly evaluated and tested in heavy combat conditions at the vanguard of STF and fleet engagement forces.

You know it kind of works when you have Galaxy-Rs taking the top few spots in fleet battle queues and getting as many as 9 Prototype Salvage in a day. Another newer pilot managed to get his full MACO ship set in what seemed to be a single evening as well.

    Let's see...

    You have to do... nothing.

I'll look you up later, and run some STFs if you're up for them. Since it's the weekend I'm online both PST mornings and evenings. Check your friend's list - you should see my name there in yellow when you log on later.

Are you guys active around 7am till noon EST? And are you active on the LDF side as well? I've been playing since January or early Feb, but I've still not done a single STF and would like a quality group to learn from and play with that is rather laid back.
