Vice Admiral But No Ship?

Hi all,

I recently achieved Vice Admiral rank and was wondering if any one knew why you gain access to a new ship at every rank milestone except this one?

I find it strange that there is no ship reward for reaching the lvl cap rank of Vice Admiral.

Have any Cryptic staff ever commented on this?

    The only ship token for VA is a Veteran reward at 300 or 400 days I think.

    VA ships are C-Store only unless you're a Gold player with a 600 Day Vet Reward.

    Oh i understand this but there is a max level and you would expect some kind of ship reward for reaching it as you have one for every other rank.

    with F2p they removed that tho, since it's mainly cash shop for that now.
    however, you can manage just fine with the rear admiral ship at VA :)

    Yeah. The 3 Retrofit Ships you could get at VA don't really add any firepower to the free T5 ships. They just have the special ability.

    True. I still fly my Advanced Escort. And it is somehow logical as well. As Admiral you would normaly end up at a Desk in Starfleet HQ but in STO you are free to choose to stay in command of your ship.
    Like Riker in the TNG episode "All good things".

    Nope, your punishment for reaching max level in the game is being penalized by having to buy your final ship with real money in the Cash Store.

    It seems to be the same for the General rank for Klingons, to

    It's absurd, to be honest, given that you can no longer buy ships for energy credits.

    I can only assume, given Perfect worlds track record, it's a way to "push" people to buy cstore items and/or credits to sell for dilithium, which strangely enough, you can use to buy ships! :p

    Your reward for reaching max level is for you to open your wallet and pay cryptic for the ship.

    Surely that's the best kind of reward anyone would want, isn't it?

    I hate how entitled kids these days are...

    At launch there WERE NO special level 50 ships (level 51 back then). The ships you received when you made admiral at 40 were the best ships in the game. This is STILL THE CASE. The RA level 40 ships ARE TIER 5 ships, and the ships available on the Ctore are also TIER 5 SHIPS. As of yet, there is NO TIER 6!

    The game needs to do a better job of explaining this to people.


    The fleet escort, assault cruiser, and DSV are still the top of the line ships for PvE and PvP. They are not underpowered compared to their Cstore counter parts. The only thing the Cstore ships grant you are more cosmetic options, or a special ability (Transwarp for the Excel, Lance for the Dread, etc). By and large these new abilities are not all that impressive.

    At launch the max rank was Rear Admiral. Vice Admiral was added later. So, naturally, there were no VA ships at launch.

    I see it a bit differently and usually im the first to moan, but after a good number of hours of enjoyment on the game I think its only fair that cryptic get a few pound/dollar out of you.......;)

    I think the better job this game could do is making VA ships available to the player base without costing a dime and leave their store to just selling cosmetic items or account services.

    The Oddy is a joke of a ship, especially when being flown by a TAC captain. I can't that saucer sep is going to change anything about it.

    I have a tac retrofit (cloak!). I experimented for a long time with it.

    I ended up going back to Fleet Escort.


    The top ships aren't better, just different.

    i use the excelsior refit , purely because its my favorite canon ship , but an assault cruiser is practically the exact same ship

    People have to understand, VA-level ships aren't new tiers. They are merely special versions of pre-existing ships. Hence, they don't give you them for free without the Veteran reward.

    Whenever a tier 6 ship comes out, you can assume it'll be like before. You'll get a discount/free tier 6.

    And honestly, for all the hate people give Cryptic/PWE, they're about one of two companies I can think of, that'll let you get cash points for free. The only other is Turbine, and how "achievements" reward you with a small amount of Turbine Points so you can, in theory, buy stuff from the item shop. Sure, people will argue "Well it takes too long to get dilithium!" but, would you prefer you couldn't get C-Points with it?

    I understand that ftp'rs who aren't paying to play the game are being pushed to use the c-store as at the end of the day STO is a business.

    Maybe there needs to be better explanation in game as to what tiers mean and what to expect from each one.

    I was just a little disappointed at not having a new "toy" to play with at VA rank to be honest.

    I currently use the Star Cruiser but wish i hadn't chose it, maybe I should just shut up and cough up as they say!

    A level 50 character can hit 8k dilithium cap in about an hour with dailies. That's roughly 36 CPs. If you have two characters, and two hours, that's 70 CPs a day.

    And if your time is variable, maybe you play a lot on the weekend and then just log in during the week to convert dilithium.

    In 2-4 weeks, you can unlock a 1200-2000 CP ship.

    And, again, the ship isn't necessary at all.

    I have 6 characters max rank and it takes me a little less than an hour a day and onwhen I do get the limit on all my characters I get about 225cp in one day. That means I get 2000cp in 8 days. I am what cryptic fears lol I do all the grinds.

    So if you do not want to grind like I do just pay up or wait untill they raise the rank cap to get new toys.

    Not at all. Someone is still dropping the money on those C-Points.

    It's awesome that you pull in that much, I haven't been able to get in the rhythm for that yet! :D

    Anyway the RA ships are just as good as the VA ships (apart from few exceptions).

    The game is FREE. You've been playing the game for a month now for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. And you complain that everything isn't handed to you. How do you think Cryptic makes money to maintain the game? If no one buys Cstore ships then the servers will go down.

    If that happens, you won't have any left to complain!!!

    When I first started I looked at those c-point VA ships and thought I must get one or two of those "uber" ships some day. A couple of months later having saved up more than enough I realised I was quite happy flying the Sovereign, Heavy Escort and Hegh'ta BOP on my three characters so I bought doff and bank slots instead :)

    The only thing that bugs my wife with this is that she loves her Defiant and does not like the Promethius or the other RA tac ship. I did not realize that they changed the free VA ship token when going to f2p, it makes sence when I think about it now but I got my wife all fired up for the retrofit Defiant....oops! Sooo, she still flies her Captain level Defiant at VA. A small handicap missing out on some slots though, she thinks it's worth it to fly the more superior class of ship. :P Cryptic, she just wants a RA level Defiant, where's the love? lol
