Does anyone else have an issue with the red UI?
I'm not complaining or anything i mean the red makes sense and I'd love to play as a Klingon more but for some reason the red UI really hurts my eyes and I can't play for more than a mission, if that, before I get a headache, Anyone else ever have an issue with it?

(I'm bored while the server is down in case you can't tell lol)

(Just to point out i'm not suggesting it should be changed or bemoaning this for lack of klingon interest or anything I was just wondering if other people ever have an issue with it)

    You're not alone.
Even though I'm personally not that bothered by it I know a few people who have the same issue.
I also know a few folks have the same problem with the Federation interface so it seems Cryptic is equally hurting people on both sides.
Personally my proposal would be to at least change the contrast a bit, Klingon interface was actually never as red as it is in STO, neither on the consoles currently in the game nor in the interface we have.
It looked less "agressive" in the shows because it was more of a combination of red, orange an yellow.
And perhaps that's the way Cryptic should go too.
Less "red on red", maybe a slightly darker, perhaps slightly greyinsh red for the background and a bit of orange instead of the "bright" yellow for the lettering.

For some reason the Klingon interface in BotF worked better for me, but perhaps that was because it was less uniform.

That's all I can think of right now.

I was actually thinking of the BOTF interface myself, I've not played in awhile but I always used to play either Klingon (or Dominion in the UDM mod) but the interface was never an issue I could stare at it for hours, not a priority but I agree with what you said concerning the colour scheme would be nice

I lately started playing the Klingon Empire side, and yeah I don't like the color of the UI. If there is a way to change its color, please do let me know. :)

The Klingon sectors are ok as a red color, but took time to get used too.

Sorry, but it does not seem possible (at least for us).
I can't point to the quote but I remember that there was once a comment by a dev about those movable windows and them actually being 3-d models of some kind  which makes changing them quite a pain.

Back then it was about changing the colour as well and according to that statement it would basically mean going back and providing alternate textures for those UI 3-d models.
So it seems to be more complex than changing the UI of your typical strategy game like Armada of BotF.
Well, theoretically it should be possible to provide alternate interfaces and given those are models it would theoretically also be possible to give us, for example, an alternate interface for the Klingons that is not just Starfleet LCARS in red.
But modding the interface is expressedly not allowed so not even some good modelers could do it for Cryptic.:(

I feel the same way about the BLUE of teh fed side when I DOff my one fed toon, though I find the warm reds of the KDF soothing.

Thats because the federation personnel's eyes are abnormally tuned to the blue end of the spectrum. They can not see the subtle nuances that make our Klingon reds so pleasing to look at. :D

I can't play klingon due to the eye strain the red causes my eyes; it's saddening but not having a headache > having a headache.

They could make it more like the color of Klingon chat text, then it would still be reddish but easier on the eyes.

They could change the fed blue as well, as I find it very bright and it gives me a headache.
I doubt they will change iether though as it would take a lot of work, I would think.
Frankly there is no reason too as evidently the fed blue bothers very few players and the KDF red bother only a few players.

It's too bad we can't customize our UI's. I cannot stand the Fed UI & very rarely ever play fed because of it.

The current colors in the KDF UI work great for me, not only is it visually much more appealing than the blue, the red color is restful to my eyes and I can play longer. :)

However the blue coloring on the FED side... for me it is terrible I can't stand it, it causes too much eye strain. Not that I hardly ever play my single FED - he's been collecting dust since I first unlocked KDF play, but the nerve jangling color is no incentive to even consider trying it :(.

    My eyes, they burn!

Red on Redish-Orange is just terrible. I bought a DOff today and the free ones were Redish-Ornage, and the unavailable ones were Red... The lack of good contrast really strains my eyes. Can I sue PWE/Cyp for vision problems? I don't remember seeing it in the disclaimer...

Seriously though, if we aren't getting the ability to customize the UI, can we at least get a green recolor for my Gorn/Orion characters? Heck make it a C-Store item if you must, KDF is just unplayable for me...

My biggest issue with the Klingon UI is that enemies are Yellow. I would love it if they made the enemies Red and friendlies like a Dark Green, like the color that most Klingon ships are.

I'd enjoy it more if they were blue so I can enjoy making that obnoxious color go away with my heavy cannons! :D

I think I am of an alien species because.

The Federation UI hurts my eyes.
The Klingon one is really soothing. Also better for night vision - rigged for red :D

I prefer the red, BUT I really wouldn't mind the option of customized UI or the ability to simple change the shader of the UI.

If you have eye problems, try using SHOOTER GLASSES or something like that to change the red.

Yeah, seconded, would love to change the Federation UI to something less glaring for night flights xD

I would love it if they let you change the brightness of the ui atleast.A darker red for KDF and maybe a darker blue for FED.

I'd laugh heartily if the the targetting bracket as a KDF character was triangular, rather than square. You know, the little things in life.

I'd also kinda like the TNG squacking warn effect when I activate torpedo skills on Federation ships, but you can't have everything..

I like the Red, but I have major issues that its just an angular version of the Fed one. Surely Cryptic could have made more of a Klingon styled interface - where are the triangles!

You know if they could do the sound effects and voice acting from Starfleet Command 2, that would be great. In SFC each race had its own interface design and fx.

I'm color blind and have huge issues with it.

If the red UI gives you headaches and its difficult for you to focus on specific items on it you may have a type of color blindness too. Check with your eye specialist.

You think you have it bad; I'm Romulan, and I'm used to more...civilised...interfaces. But I'm having to use software developed by you unsophisticated barbarians. Red? By D'era, green is much more refined.

The UI on both factions needs an overall update, its been pretty much the same since beta minus the latest additions to it.. I personally would like a transparency option for individual windows like I have with the chat box whilst also having the abilities color coded by class and weapon type (i.e. the way we had it with the color coded pack from pendra before the new terms came up.)

The idea for transparency is like so:
have the mini map, dialog boxes, inventory and character status windows as is / 70% transparent; but allow the ability trays outlines to be see through, bout 45% transparent, leaving only the slotted abilities showing (this would open up more screen space and less sore on the eyes for people) and hopefully by also killing the fps hog that the UI can be lol.

They really need to implement the ability to customize either UI, I simply don't understand the point of an uber-monochrome UI.

That's really my only complaint with the KDF UI, to be honest - the Feds get a more clear indication of target threat. Would hate to be colorblind in this situation, to be perfectly honest...

Any color on the other end of the spectrum would be nice, but I'll deal so long as I get to continue raiding Fed outposts. It really is a minor inconvenience.
