Well, I like a lot of their own designs (Hestia, Pathfinder, Mogh, Guardian,.. just to name a few) or at least "parts" of them, but I agree, that their own ships often include some questionable design choices (just from my point of view) - but I also think that it is very hard to compete with the original/canon designs in general.. well.. in the end I'm just happy that we have lots of ships and parts to choose among, so that there's something for everyone *^_^* !!!
Like there are individual parts of their ships that I like (for instance a Sovereign with Regent nacelles looks pretty good) their only "good" designs are really the ones that dont change much from the ship they were based on. (I hate the look of the entire Regent, because the forward swept nacelles and overly flat saucer just spoil the lines of the ship). You named the Hestia, and really thats just a Prometheus with very minor changes and a new texture, and the Guardian is basically just a Galaxy-class (even though its not based on one). The Pathfinder, in particular annoys me, because of that idiotic main deflector and the downswept nacelles...
EDIT: Looking at your other pics, really what I think it is, is the basking shark style on the deflector of the Archon that spoils it... any pic where I cant see it I find myself going "Hmmm that doesnt look too bad" and then I see the deflector and remember why I hate it again.

I think there are a decent amount of original designs from Cryptic that don't play it too safe, but I also think there's a lot of choices that stray too far. Overall, I personally like the variety and wholeheartedly agree that there is indeed something for everyone.
Guardian is basically just a Galaxy-class (even though its not based on one)
It's more of Probert's design of the Ambassador. While I would rather straight up have Probert's design, I'm happy that there's at least something in STO now that looks similar.

I have that in my Sovereign's canon loadout... and I almost always forget its there... I need to pick up the other 2 consoles and get my battle cloaking Sovereign...

For the record, I have to admit, when I sat down to customize her, I really considered taking these shots with the Regent nacelles. Now I'm convinced that these nacelles fit her perfectly

Awesome pictures! Incidentally, looking at these I've noticed that what are apparently meant to be the impulse exhaust ports are too wide compared to what was on the shooting model:
I wonder if we'll get the choice for lit/unlit impulse engines too, since the ship, even when they shifted to CGI, never showed them lit. Sorry if this is being really nitpicky.

I really like this shot. This is coming from someone who's never really liked the Intrepid class.
