Ive been starting to get more into playing my klingon tac and its really disturbing me to see just how many disadvantages there are to playing that faction. Yes for sure there are advantages with the ability to cloak on most of their ships and that most can use dual heavy cannons. However I'd like to point out a few of the issues that I have been coming across at end game.
1- End game skins for ships
I love that there are plenty of new klingon ships being added to the game... Why are none of them end game. The new bird of prey, raptor and cruiser skins should be usuable on t5 ships... PERIOD. As I have said in other posts I really dont understand the logic of flying a 200 year old bird of prey at BG while commander level captains fly the newest and shinest ships in the fleet.
2- The Honor Guard space set.
The shield is listed as a covariant shield. The M.A.C.O. is a resilient and the Omega is a regenerative. I think its great that you have put all 3 major shield types in. What I dont get is that the covariant has the lowest hp of all 3. Every other covariant in the game has huge hp over the other shield types... Why not give the klingons a covariant that fits that model? I'm not saying nerf anything there but could you at least take a look at these 3 sets again and at the gear currently in game and maybe move to make their stats fall more in line with their names and intended purpose.
3- The ability to qeue for stf's with a fed / klingon mixed team that isnt full. Currently my fleet and our sister klingon fleet run stf's together. But if only 4 of us are able to run we cant have a mixed group of feds and klingons. This only works if you have 5.
Thanks for the hard work you guys have put in recently. Fixing some small things for us end-gamers would go a long way to making your longstanding and loyal customers happy even in the face of the hordes of f2p players you are expecting soon.
I have the modulator on my BOP, I believe you get it from the devidian series. Correct me if I'm wrong!!!! Other then that I agree with your post. The stf's Que is impossible to team with the Feds you want to unless there is 5, so you can make a private. That should be fixed.
Klingon's don't get any love b/c they smell funny... ORIAN FEMALE KDF FTW! oh wait, I still have to fly the same ships. Never mind about the smelly comment... I like your points and would like to fly a BoP with the new shiny skin rather than the old 200 year old one too
As I have said in other posts I really dont understand the logic of flying a 200 year old bird of prey at BG while commander level captains fly the newest and shinest ships in the fleet.
Probally because its not a 200 year old Bird of Prey.
In fact the B'rel is not even a 23rd century ship like so many non-canon sources want to make it out to be.

I believe you're mistaken on the shields. I don't remember which is which off hand, but 1 has a huge buffer, lower regen, 10% leech, but +10% defense. On a Brel w/+35% shield boost I've got over 9.6k/siding which is huge. Perhaps you compaired a fitted shield (with boosts from captain skills et al) to one in your inventory.
Well ok The Search for Spok was 2285. Were now in 2409... so its only 124 years old... This is the ship that Kirk crashed into San Fransisco bay with some whales in the back and its the ship used in Undiscovered country that could fire while cloaked... So for sure it is the ship from the TOS era movies.
The Honor Guard Covariant - 6263 hp (covariants to this point have been the highest hp shields in the game)
M.A.C.O. Resilient - 6762 hp (these have been the damage resistance and lower bleed through shields)
Omega Force Shield Array - 6406 hp
My point here is the klingons have a covariant... which is awesome... BUT its the lowest hp of the 3. Covarients should be the highest... Shields like the Aegis and Reman covariants. Or even just go to a normal shield vender at ESD or Qo'nos.. The covariants are always the bigger shields. Not the best... just the biggest.

The Honour Guard shields have a big capacity advantage over the MACO shields. I just checked my Eng/ Vor'kang using the Mk X Honour Guard shield and +35% console and my Tac/ Sovereign with the Mk X MACO and a +35% console and the stats are;
Vor'kang; 10,562 per facing
Sovereign; 8,389 per facing
I'm not sure how they got them to look so different in game, maybe the MACO was using a Cruiser and the Honour Guard a BoP perhaps but there's definitely a difference in capacity (I can get screenshots if necessary).
EDIT; The Vor'kang isn't the T4 ship, it's the T5 refit with the Vor'kang ship. Makes no difference to the stats (other than them being a little higher) but thought I'd clarify that.

If thats the case then maybe sto wiki's info is horribly horribly wrong. I dearly hope that that is the case and its not cryptic failing to put logical stats on gear.
The reason I consider the ship from undiscoverd country a B'rel is simply... its the ship that can fire while cloaked... just like the B'rel retrofit in game. That still makes that ship well over 100 years old. Its also somewhat besides the point. My main point is that the t5 klingon ships should benefit from the new skins... Why add all these new skins so that you can use them for only a day or 2 if you level quickely. Why not let us use them and show off crypits hard work at end game where they will get the most use.

STO Wiki has got to be wrong, those numbers are from comparable ships of the same class and tier, the numbers were checked in game just a minute or two before I posted them here (I was Alt+Tabbed out when I posted it).
To your first question (OP) my guess would have to be that its a draw to hard core trekkies. they grew up with this iconic ships, such as the galaxy, and the thought of flying them end game is 'supposed' to be a dream come true.

I get that and for the very same reason I do fly a galaxy and a defiant. But I also fly them as the venture and sao paulo varients... Because I can. After over a year of flying the same skin I was bored and cryptic gave me the option to spend money and change how they looked and I loved it. My issue is why the klingons arent given the same choice, even when the skins are in game... Just not usable on the high level ships.
The entire reasoning behind the new skins for the federation was to show that the ships have been upgraded in the 30 or 40 years since we saw them last. The klingons in the meantime have apparently just not bothered to come up with anything new that there command staff would use. I guess its not honorable to have a technilogical advantage but instead fly old out of date ships.
As I have said in other posts I really dont understand the logic of flying a 200 year old bird of prey at BG while commander level captains fly the newest and shinest ships in the fleet.
If it was good enough for General Martok it is good enough for you. Besides, the basic architectural design is 200 years old. That does not mean the ship is 200 years old. It could be fresh off the production line with the latest technology. People still build "castles". That does not mean that they are drafty, lack central heating, and do not have every modern convenience that any other new building would have.
My guess is that the lack of skins is due to Cryptic deciding they would rather develop skins for ships that will make more money. Not that many people are willing to shell out for Klingon skins. However, with the addition of F2P ships, there are a lot more skins for Klingons. You just have to buy one of the lower tier ships and apply the skin to the higher tier ship, like you do with the Galaxy, the Defiant, and the Intrepid.

And heres my point... YOU CANT DO THAT. The skins ONLY WORK on the ships you buy them for. The raptor and BOP skins DO NOT WORK on the t5 ships.
Its another example of feds can do it. Klingons cant.
The Galaxy and Defiant have new skins.
The klingons got a new bird of prey and raptor... their skins cannot be used on the end game ships. only on the lower level ones. This has been my point all along.

The Vor'cha skin is already in the game. You do not even have to buy the refit to get it.
Now, it could be that Cryptic has changed things, but according to their blog, they are planning on releasing refit versions of those four ships, which probably mean new skins.

Again, depending on who you are (fed vs kdf) and what ship you're using you'll see different values. Trust me the Honor guard has over 1k more shielding/siding then omega force of the kdf. I have XI of them both. Go to the shops and see for yourself.
I'd just like to see more Sci ships that are NOT C-Store only ships for the KDF. Granted science officers are not what you think about when you think of KDF but still...

I as well.
I would also like the Orion and Gorn ships to be switchable between a science and a engineering layout. Given the limited options, it seems the best thing to do.

I am with you here. You get the same ship for each level. It would be nice to have a bit of a variety. Even if it is a 6 man/woman research vessel or a sleeper ship like the botany bay..

Klingon culture does not throw away what still continues to work, though they will modify it to keep it abreast of current SOTA levels when needed. The design of the BoP has proven to be an excellent design and that is why they have lasted so long in use in the Empire.

Ok I get your point. BUT if the kdf has designed new ships with more modern tech why wouldnt their top ranking officers want to fly those over the very dated b'rel... It just doesnt make sense that you wouldnt want to fly the newest and badest toys that the kdf can field.

I'm stubborn and won't let this idea die just yet:
just give us a type of ship we know the Klingons have: scouts.
They were even mentioned in DS9 as ships the Klingons sent to the Gamma Quadrant.
So they could just give us older military ships (meaning for example the Raptor of the previous tier) that have been stuffed with electronics and a few labs instead of additional weaponry.
Reduce the crew somewhat compared to a Raptor and you've got additional cargo space for extended flights.
Done.

It would depend on the individual as well, I would think. Like a known and well-used blade, some will hold onto to thier older ships the same way becuase its a comfortable and known tool.
The feds have 3 escorts + 3-4 skins per ship... The klingons have 1 escort with 3 skins and 2 bops... from this standpoint alone were way behind the curve. Im willing to buy a skin pack if thats what it took but we should have a little more variety.

A B'rel is only referred to once by name in all of Star Trek canon, and that ship was about three times the size of the ST:III-VI Bird of Prey's.
Its a very common misconception.

Based upon this post: http://startrekonline.com/node/2654
I expect that you are going to see T-5 skins for:
1. Bird of Prey: Hegh'ta
2. Battle Cruiser: Negh'Var
3. Battle Cruiser: Vor'cha
4. Raptor: Qin
The Vor'cha skin is already in the game. You do not even have to buy the refit to get it.
