KDF Population

It's no mystery that a lot more people are playing STO than before Season 5. But not just on the Federation side of the galaxy, but over here at the red faction, too. Personally, I don't think I've ever seen so many KDF characters running around, not even in the heydays after release. Yesterday I saw more KDFs just sitting around in the academy than used to be logged into the entire game at once, prior to Season 5.

What do you guys think? A new golden age for the KDF... will we finally break out of the 18%? Or is this just people checking out the new KDF leveling experience, and aren't going to stick around?

My guess is they log in, check the Academy DOOF mission progression, change to Wonderland, make the race and then log out.
There will be no golden age for the KDF with this game.

I think one of the big factors is that prior to Season 5 there was no endgame content open to the KDF.
Yes I know the STF's were technically available to KDF players, but painlessly finding a team was nearly an impossible task.

Now that Cross-Teaming in STF's is possible and the STF's themselves have been split up and made more available, Klingons can finally fully enjoy endgame content.

I also imagine a lot of KDF players are also after the simply Epic Mk XII Honor Guard set.

Well, that, and we have a bunch more stuff so people like me who left prior to season 5 had our curiosity piqued and were like "whooooaa... I have STUFF!"

I'm particularly impressed with the array of ships we have available.

I'm less impressed by the fact that NONE of the new ships are normal in-game ships that can only be bought for C-Points.
Especially since the KDF have always had less ships and variants available to them than the federation.

At least they are giving people who play now in December a free new awesome torpedo to play with on the KDF side of things.

If you call doing the same missions dozens of times in the slim hope you get a Tech drop "enjoyable".
Other than that...what end game content...?
Let's say you're extremly lucky and get a tech drop after only one time of doing the mission and you get the set...now what?
Modifiying the same missions that have been out for over a year so you have to do them over and over to get a single piece of desirable gear is not "fianally enjoying endgame content".

That and all the wonderful "features" they keep including (as in, unable to talk to D'Vak, and somehow being ineligible for the mission at both BG5 and LG1?), no wonder people log in, do DOffs, and log out. I do, I admit it.

Unfortunately, I would agree that there is no Golden Age for the KDF. If I were to say, it would have been close to first release when the FvK pvp actions was still up and running.

Ah...those were the days of Glory...
When the Qeue would pop so fast between matches you had to announce a 15 min break for your All Fleet pre-made team just so you could P and smoke because you've been hammering rapid fire back to back PvP matches for 3 hours straight...
Even at the Lt levels the qeues were packed and the wait between matches was a very few minutes.
And for the first time in any ST online multiplayer game, the cloak worked as good as it always should have...
Truly the battles that great songs are made of...:D

Like sugary treats, thongs and that fine line between sex and violence....or way too much eggnog.

I am very happy to seee the population of the KDF surge with new life and hope its a more common occurence in the future.

Now we just need that parity of PvE gameplay to keep those new players (or old players trying something different) from losing interest after 2 years.

Devs, If you make it we will test it and they will come if its as good or better than what you have already given us!!!

I see much more KDF around Qonos these days. It's good to see, but I don't think its long term.
Cryptic simply has not added good new things to do and the Ques are still broken.

I replaced faith with optimistic realism a long time ago.
Pessimistic realism in this context mens all those people just accidentally selected the wron character during login.:p
I think it's telling that when I get a chance for STFs I'm usually the only Klingon in them meaning I make up 20% of the team which is again around the 18% figure.
We'd probably need 10 people STFs to get a more "accurate" figure we can then use to fake our own statistics more convincingly.;)

There are definitly more KDF players around. On one hand, its a good thing, on the other I stumbled across a lot of KDF players these days who acted like fed captains on vacation: zero teamplay, needing on everything, ... But I guess more numbers has to be a good thing and the drawbacks have to be accepted.

Our lands are teeming new Warriors and many questions of the location of D'Vok :p

There are more KDF, and theres no small number of Fed players that are damd glad to see us in STF's.

I dare say in many way when it comes to PvE combat KDF ships seriously shine. I've had Fed plaayers whisper me after STF's that I'm scary good.. Very complimentery because I'm good yes, but not that good.
I manuver aggressivly and use my ship to the fullest. But there are better builds.. And these day my main in a SCI in a battle cruiser. Not because its the best ship for a SCI to fly, but because its the best ship for ME to fly. KDF players bring something special to a STF. And some feds are starting to realize it.

Strange as it is, the lack of content at th emoment is a boon, as is the very short amount of time to the level cap and into end game. But once F2P launches that massive lacking of KDF content is gonna need to be addressed.

There are more players playing KDF right now then it feels ever before. But most of them are coming form level capped Fed players looking for differnt game play. The real test of KDF recovery will come arin January as incoming F2P members hit the level fed side to start KDF characters.

I know gamers... THAT is when we should see a massive growth in KDF numbers.

But for now.. I'm pleased. It's not what I wanted, but its good to see some numbers KDF side.

I played STO from Beta til about 3 months after release and then the economy hit me in the ferengis.

However, with that in mind, I came back this holiday to prep my guys for the F2P that is gonna be up in here. It looks to me like this will be an absolutely wonderful faction as things are wound up on it. I suspect their F2P release will add a lot to it.

As for me, I love seeing that I am not the only one in the house that digs the Klingon right now. I have a fed main character, and I also have an up and coming Klingon (Commander L'Kar). I plan on having both and maintaining both.

I do hope though that they make it so a Klingon can be started at the beginning. I know the tutorial is federation based, but I think there should be a tutorial in place for both sides. This would encourage more growth here, and if it was made skippable (for both tutorials) we would have even more alty goodness.

Just two cents from a returning type guy.

Yes the Feds are very glad to see us in the STF's. Gone are the days of being insulted in the Neutral Zone and enduring rude comments. And not only are the Feds glad to see our ships in the space missions but also our toons in the ground STF's. Nothing matches a wild Klingon ( Not those tame Fed wannabe's) for unmitigated destruction, put a weapon in the hands of a Klingon and the enemies go down fast. I was recently on a team of 4 Klingons and 1 Fed and we literally annihalated everything in our path. The Fed player, who up until that time had teamed with mainly other Feds, was amazed at the destructive power we unleashed. Ahhh its good to be Klingon.

I came back in early December for Season 5 after playing from launch until about July 2010. It's been weird restarting, I'm not sure what to do with 200-300K purple currency on my old PvP characters, for example.

Klingon gameplay is very different in Season 5 than I remember leaving it in Season 2. I like the DOFFs, I like the new P2W toys, and for the first time I am doing STFs - often as the only Klingon in my group. I've also been doing several of the episodes which are all new to me, but mostly as I hunt for specific gear.

From a KDF perspective, everything is new - but that's not really fair because in Season 1 the only thing to do KDF was exploration and PvP. The First City looks very different than I remember it, and I do like it.

Is it more or less busy? Not sure I agree is it more busy, because while Qo'noS is certainly busy now - Ganalda Station which used to be where everyone would hang out, and now it is dead. Maybe it is because I compare everything to when I played in Season 1, but in Season 1 there were 60-70 KDF per instance at Ganalda Station. Now they are at Qo'noS. Is that new, or just different?

Me thinks different, but I'll agree things have changed and for the better.

I've seen more Klingons, but I've also seen a lot more Feds. I think the KDF got an increase in population proportional to that of the Federation.

My main character is a Klingon. I log in to my Federation characters largely to do their DOff missions and the daily Q's Wonderland. There are a lot more ships around Qo'noS these days, but the amount flying around ESD is even more ridiculous.

I'm glad that we can partner with Federation players for the STFs though. That has been a help for the faction. I'm noticing that I'm not the only Klingon on the STF team more often, which is nice.

I have a feeling that after the official F2P date, we'll see the Federation numbers really swell for a few weeks, and it'll take some time before there is any type of similar increase for the KDF. I also don't think we'll see as many new regular KDF players even if there is a KDF dedicated slot.

I look forward to the eventual KDF update with the additional levels that further fleshes out the faction. It can't come soon enough.

F2P should see impressive numbers for both sides, but with the DOFF system and Mirror universe events you can power level your self without much effort or time logged in on a character. So don't expect to see everyone grinding in the lower KDF PVE.

That said the amount of players participating in end content should go up in a few days after release.

I played a federation tactical in beta, rolled one in launch and played up to cap. Rolled a Klingon tactical also. I did play most of the missions for federation. As I look back now most of my episode logs for that time are set to "Replay" only. Virtually all of the missions have changed now so I may do them all over.

The Klingon spent time in player vs player. So much time in player vs player that even after outfitting numerous ships in what was at the time the top gear there were enough marks left over to provide me with a disturbingly large pile of dilithium and some sort of vet BO. I had stopped playing a bit over a year ago. So here I'm back. Yes there sure were some PvpP surprises. Old skills brought back from the dead, so called pay2win consoles, zombie cruisers etc. I PvP a bit to bring my ship back into line with the new top tier and then started in on the STF missions. Good fun. I even got a Guramba ship to use for these. Who needs battle cloak in pve anyway?

Took a couple days of doff missions and some game play to get my feddie up there but he is and now he's gone from blue/green gear to two of the basic sets for space and MK xi borg weapons all around.

Only mark of sadness is that "back in the day" i could get home from work, log in, and do hours of pvp on my kilin with very fast cues. That's sort of missing just now. Okies cheers! glad to be back doing sto!
