Good Intentions - Parts I and II

Hello all, I'd like to start a thread for a new mission I've made up:

Good Intentions - Part I
Starfleet, Any level
ST-HBR3KGTXD
Mission door: Ker'rat system, Eta Eridani sector block

Mission Teaser: An outpost in the Klingon Neutral Zone needs reinforcing, and the [ShipName] has been requested to help defend against the latest assault in the Ker'rat System.
In the midst of battle, however, a new alien race makes itself known, and the first contact won't exactly be standard procedure.

I try to do some stuff with invisible walls that I hope ends up working okay for people of any level.

In any event, if you have any feedback about gameplay, map construction or even plot I am definitely all ears, just respond to this thread.

Part II is about 85% complete but I'm busy these days - hopefully will be done in a week or two.

All, Good Intentions - Part II is now published and ready to go.

    Good Intentions - Part II
    ST-HNGW6SNID
    Starfleet any level

While your attempted first contact with the new alien race didn't go as planned, the Ker'rat outpost under command of Admiral Nalri was hit hard by the Klingons.

You are ordered to the outpost to assist in the repairs. No sign of the new alien race has been detected since your narrow escape, but that could change at any time...

Any and all feedback will be taken to heart. =)

I just played the first mission in your series, and I enjoyed it tremendously! I loved the special effect of the (spoiler alert!) crew being frozen; you certainly achieved the "creepiness factor" I believe you were going for. The story was unique, and and the goal of the mysterious aliens was a fun twist. I also enjoyed the way you handled the final ship battle sequence. Can't wait to play the sequel! :D

Hey Sovereign, thanks very much for the feedback. A lot of people are getting a slightly different vibe from Part II, so any feedback you have once you've checked that part out would be great to have as well.

I played Part 2 a little earlier today—it was wonderful! You are a very talented Foundry author, both when it comes to maps and story (I hadn’t realized you were also the author of First Cause, Then Effect). I most enjoyed the dream/vision sequence in the middle of the mission. As a new Foundry author myself, I can say that your missions provide a brilliant example to follow.

The primary feedback I would offer concerns the mysterious aliens themselves. I was drawn in by the concept of (spoiler alert!) a race of powerful beings distinctly alien to our concepts of morality. The idea of these aliens attempting to give humanity what it desires on a basic, instinctual level—but is striving to move beyond on a conscious, enlightened level—was fascinating. Nevertheless, at the end of the episode the aliens seem to pass a form of moral judgment on humanity for the choices made at the finale, and indicate that they will cease further contact until we evolve. This seemed like a shift in the personality of the aliens from something truly unique to something a little more mundane. However, this did not impact my enjoyment of the mission—as indicated by the score I gave. :D

Thank you for creating another brilliant story. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!

p.s. Given your talent for story and writing, I would love to get your feedback on my Deadly Intentions mission series…if you have a moment between writing new episodes. ;)

I made some changes/fixes regarding some of the NPCs in invisible walls that happen during this mission so that they are less likely to break. If anyone gets the chance please let me know how things go. I'm definitely up for things like review exchanges as well!

This is a great mission! Below is an excerpt from the in depth report I filed for this mission.

    Allegiance: Federation

Summary: At first I thought perhaps I was going to be in a simple shooting mission but then you sprung the story trap. The mission design, from the dialog to the map design, is excellent. You crafted an interesting story that drew me into the mission and made me want to see what was around the next corner. The maps you created were very well designed and the effects were executed with precision. I am looking forward to both playing and evaluating the sequel to this mission. Great job!

Thanks Rogue for authoring and keep up the great work! I highly recommend this mission to any who like great stories, great maps and battles!

Summary: The story along with the map design and execution of effects is outstanding. You drew me into the story from the start and held my attention throughout. I highly recommend this mission and the entire series. You should definitely play part 1 first not just because it is a good prequel but it serves to develop the story and gives you a taste of what is to come.

Thanks again for authoring and for giving me the chance to review your work. You did a great job on this series and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future. Keep up the great work.
