Come on, throw us a bone here. Many people complain that gold subscribers aren't getting enough. Many also complain about the time gating limitation on refining dilithium. Why not kill two birds with one stone? Let gold subscribers refine a larger amount of dilithium, either an unlimited amount, or a significantly larger amount per day (at least four times larger than the current amount).
That way at least gold subs are less constrained in refining their dilithium, even if they still have to grind to get the ore (as a second thing, golds could possibly receive a multiplier on the ore they receive, as well).

I imagine right now the limit is to act as a governor of sorts to slow down the flood of dilithium into the game once it goes live. When the conversion happens from the badges, emblems, etc... there will be suddenly a number of established players with truck loads of dilithium. I would speculate they're doing this so it isn't a log in, and instantly have all the latest gear without effort. And it wouldn't be fair to the players who are not as established if they reduced the conversion rate of badges/emblems/etc to dilithium as a measure.
Down the road I could see them lifting it, but I don't think that's going to happen up front.
Problem is, however, that all those badges and emblems were earned and are usable now. We don't have to wait to refine them or anything. We can use them all right now.
The conversion process is giving some of us tons of dilitium ore, which we have to process on our own. 206k ore? Come on now...that will take a month to refine. So, if I find myself needing to drop some on a new set of guns, I have to wait. Why? I don't have to wait now if I want to change my loadout and get new gear using my saved emblems and badges. I shouldn't have to wait when the f2p goes live either.
I already worked and earned these things, I shouldn't have to work hard again to refine them into something I can use.
Also, if the current cost of items is any indication of what we will see on live, 8k a day just isn't enough. It would take a couple hundred thousand refined dilithium (RD) to equip a ship, and that means nearly a month in most cases just to refine the ore.
Now, I am not a greedy person...but I don't always get to log in on a daily basis. If I miss a couple days of playing becuas of this thing called "real life", I end up way behind.
So far, the system seems like a giant grind to me. Or, a way to get people to buy tons of Cryptic Points to trade for RD. Either way, what's my monthly sub going for again?

With the perspective of only using your own dilithium for your own needs, that probably true. However, if they add the Currency Exchange, that also means you can get C-Store points from other players willing to give those to you.
So I think the throttle is for two reasons. First, to keep dilithium from flooding the game from the first day Free To Play goes live, and players instantly having new gear. Secondly, it serves a purpose to potentially keep the value of dilithium to a higher C-Store point value with player exchanges. Remember, with Free To Play, they want players to purchase C-Store points.
Cryptic is trying to make dilithium have value.
So if you traded dil for cstore point it would be reasonsble priced.
But when I conferted one of my characters I had 400k unrefined dilithium (or something crazy) .
Meaning I would have to refine for two months and not accumulate more to reduce that amount.
I wouldn't mind if it was automated but........

I dont agree with this. So those of us who grinded over a 1000 emblems have to wait the same amount of time as a person who decides they will play today and be on par with us. I grinded emblems since the big drought of content I think I put alot of work in and should be allowed get any gear I want by now...not being strapped down with this new system. For the record ive truck loads of everything.why? Its because I worked hard to get it so why shouldnt I be able to get the high end gear when its released? Now dont get me wrong im not giving out to you for your statement which is probably very true I just dont think cryptic should be doing it.

This still won't solve the crafting problem. The fourms has quieted down alot after they reworked the prices of the ships and such. It then went Nuclear when a dilithium tax was added to crafting. I think that needs to be addressed formost.
Exactly right. I already worked, as I said for a week now, to get these emblems. To turn them into anything less than RD is punishing me for not spending them prior to F2P.
I don't care if new players are "equal" to us, why should they be? We are the ones who have been paying to play this since launch. We should be ahead of the new players. I mean, is there no loyalty left for those of us who have been keeping this game going?
With the RD requirement for crafting, i simply won't do it. It'll actually be easier to get EC and buy what I want from other players than to grind for samples and craft my own especially when you add in the RD cost now.
Maybe they should just make it so that only certain recipes call for RD. If it's a way of slowing the crafting down with all the expected silver players coming in...make it gold accounts only.
Don't punish everyone just to try and control the influx of free players.

.
And that is why I see one of the reasons for the limitation. If it's "easier" for players to not wait to refine, but rather to go to the EC and buy it, that generates C-Store income. Which is a driving force behind a Free To Play model.

You mean Perfect World's F2P model. Not every game is 'pay or grind'.
If and I do mean If you will be able to transfer Dilithium from one toon to another this will not be that bad but I seen no sign of this happening. I have my dought this will happen.
There is also the question of, which will be tradeable on the Dilithium exchange,
Dilithium ore (oD, which is useless) or Refined Dilithum (rD, which is useful)?
Dilithium Ore's only use is to be Refined.
Refined Dilithium's use is to purchase gears.
If we Exchanged useful rD, then you can use what you bought.
But if we had to Exchange useless oD, then we are back to square one, at having to make rD...
Has anyone actually seen/can show an OFFICAL word as to what we will be able to Trade/Exchange?
Please show the link if there is one.
well the problem i see here is who says people will want to trade their cryptic points for ore? Cryptic is assuming this will happen. I say just trade Dilithium through the C-store period. Also like the OP says they should take away the time it takes to refine Dilthium for the Gold members and heck bring back teh VA free ship token also
And that is why I see one of the reasons for the limitation. If it's "easier" for players to not wait to refine, but rather to go to the EC and buy it, that generates C-Store income. Which is a driving force behind a Free To Play model.
How does Cryptic get money from purchases on the Exchange for energy credits?

I think it would add another notch into the gold sub belt (to make it worth it) if gold members did get to refine a slightly higher amount per day.

its another perk but does not hamper silvers that much.
