Storyline missions really need a pass on rewards, especially since money and loot are hard to come by. I finished the Treasure station mission which seems to be at or around commander now and only got a Mark 2 Deflector as a reward.
This isnt going to work, as story mission rewards need to be comparable to the level its done or suppose to be done as, since with this new system players will depend on missions to gear up their ships.
The skill points have been drastically increased on test server to make leveling faster. On holodeck you won't be a commander when you get to that mission probably won't even be a lcdr unless you do alot of doff missions.

That mission takes place after the Devidian Series now, so odds are you will be up there Late Lt Cmdr/Cmdr 1 Its near the end of the klingon storyline

I agree, especially as a lot of people will either do DOFF missions or will do exploration and then will rapidly find the rewards don't match their rank or come anywhere close, even with the reduced XP boost.
I also don't see the harm in re-working the misson rewards as they are mainly blues with some greens therefore they are not the most sought after pieces of gear in the game so it wouldn't have a big hit on the economy.
Agreed. I think what they'll end up doing is making all the mission rewards level up with the character like the any of the new (well newer) content. They said they would go back to do that, but when will be the question.

I'm guessing that's what they will probably do. I'd say they also need to do this for the patrol missions so everything is consistent. Run any mission regardless of level and get a level appropriate award.

That's all well and good, but it still doesn't answer the issue the OP posts. If you get a mission that scales in level with you, then so too ought the rewards.

That simply isn't true. If you, for instance, work a typical 9-5 job you might just login to run the Fed-Mirror events and do the DOFF system. That could easily level you significantly faster so that when the weekend came and you sat down to play some of the story content you'd quickly become frustrated with all the crappy gear your getting, that you can't skip ahead to get an appropriate reward, now your kid is screaming because that's what kids do /RAGEQUIT.
I have to agree with the OP. I've been thinking the same thing. Even with the skill points reduced to normal back on Holodeck you will quiickly out level the current story lines. Doff assignments, exploration daily, lore missions, Mirror Event all add up. The loot really does need to level.

Perhaps, but remember, leveling has been drastically increased on Tribble. Even with them lowering it a bit for the lower levels in the last build, it is still faster than on Holodeck. I would also expect the DOff system to get a significant XP nerf soon. It is a bit too easy to level up solely on the DOff system.
The bigger issue is the linear episode progression. It is currently messed up with the Devidian episodes in the wrong place. The Devidians need to happen after the Romulan front missions.
If they're gpoing to level match these story missions to the player's level (IMO a good thing); they need to also allow the reward to autoscale to the players level. Also, the story missions NEED to reward some Dilithium. <---p They are supposed to be the marquee cintent (exspecially the FE series stuff); so to no give some Dilithium for doing these is counter-intuative. (IMO)
I thought they already said they were going to start giving dilithium away with missions? I could be wrong -tries to remember-

I think it's interesting (and sad) that Stephen D'angelo has fixing the issues with story mission content progession at such a low priority on the STO F2P 'to do llist' scale (by his own comments in th F2P Dev blogs.) The story content is what the game should be HIGHLIGHTING - no pushing to the bottom of the barrel while they get the lackluster 'grind' mechanics in place. (Woo Hoo - "Tour The Universe" - where you fly your ship through EVERY sector block - trying to stay awake -- needs more work.)
