im not sure if many of you know this but the new skin for the k'taiga class is in fact based of the old klingon D4 class a friend pointed it out to me and he's right http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/D4_class
Yup, that's true.
And I honestly doN't know what got into them to make the D4 a better ship than the D7, K't'inga and K't'inga refit.
I would have preferred for the D4 to appear as a T1 ship like the NX.
It would have made a lot more sense, lore- tier- and also "we have only one KDF ship at T1"-wise.
They could have better made an updated (meaning not butt-ugly) K't'inga refit model as their "plus one" ship IMO.
I said the same exact thing during Redshirt Testing. Using the D-4 Skin is more like regression than advancement, but for some reason Cryptic thinks this is logical.
If the new changes to the KDF didn't have us starting at commander, but back at Tier 0, I honestly could see the D-4 the equivalent to the NX as a starter ship. And the D-7 in Tier 1.
Considering that the D4 never appeared onscreen and isn't canon, combined with the fact that Enterprise ships all seemed much more advanced than their TOS/film counterparts, I have no problem with this. Side-by-side with the others it does look like a logical design progression... probably because it was!

Not really, one of the typical characteristics of that era were the "cables" out on the hull.
They were intended to show that Klingon ships of those days had to rely on other systems besides structural integritiy fields.
So since the D4 has them while more modern ships don't it clearly shows which one is actually more atvanced.
The alternative is that we consider Enterprise in its entirety a piece of anachonistic BS.

You never know, when Enterprise is remastered they very well could put in the D-4 model in place of the K'T'inga model they used. The same can be said for that same exact model K'T'inga that they used used in "Trials and Tribulations" in DS9 and the Kuvahmah Episode of Voyager, where they would use the proper D-7 model.
In fact Cryptic is just as bad, in using K'T'inga models in place of D-7s in the time travel episodes, when the D-7 skin has been long available.
But with the D-4, it is basically an unarmored D-7, which doesn't make it advanced but more vulnerable. Sure it's great that they put it in, but to call it a new ship is rather nonsensical.
For the DS9 episode, they built an entirely new model sure, but it has the proportions of the D7 along with a slight "feather" pattern on the top of the wings.
It was clearly a D7.
take a look at the warp nacelles, those are the typical D7 versions with the disruptor mounts forward.
There are also neither an aft torpedo launcher nor a pair of impulse engines.
It's basically a greenish D7 with a slight feather pattern which can overall be considered even less of a variant different from the familiar base model than the Enterprise-B type is from the standard Excelsior.
I stand corrected, they used a new D-7 Model made by Greg Jein and not CGI. But the CGI K'T'inga's that were used later in the Dominion War was the same CGI models used in Voyager and Enterprise.

I can understand the reasoning for replacing the one on Voyager, but the one from "Enterprise" was for the worst reason you can imagine.
I mean the producers didn't like the darn windows on the model?
Seriously?
The guys who gave us "Threshold" and who wanted to use the Akira with no modifications whatsoever for the NX said no to this thing because of the stupid windows.

Thanks, I was starting to feel lik a lone idiot.
