My family plays STO as a casual game; i play a lot so it doesn't really concern me. For one member their job takes them into places where they can't even get cell reception let alone get on-line. Having to log-in daily to refine ore when some players may not even be home but once a week, maybe 2, makes it difficult to acquire the dilithium needed for a simple ship purchase, let alone weapons, etc.
Are the devs considering this since STO has always been a casual gamers paradise? Will there be a means to refine ore once maybe by stock piling the day's allotment and doing it one time a week when they can?
I imagine that's why they are letting players sell their c-points for dilithium. So, you family will always have that option.
That's a possibility, but they don't play often to warrant even buying C-Points really. We're spread out across a big country so it was a way of getting together a few days a month for some fun. From what i've seen so far, and that could change, the whole casual aspect of the game is being throttled for more of a work your butt off motif. Really it's not F2P either way is it? LOL

Well that's the thing, people are not seeing the big picture. They still think of themselves as subscribers and that their subscription holds a value. When you look at the model on tribble, it's obvious you will be faced with long grinds and options to alleviate those grinds with the help of the c-store.
Perhaps, if you and you family are not prepared to do that, you should look for games that still offer value based on a subscription plan.
There is no good reason to alienate subscribers, however. The Dilithium refinement is absolutely nonsense and punishing to anyone who can't even log in each day much less earn the ore to cap each day. Changes need to be made.
