Playing the event in the Academy, where we capture the particles, many times other players pulled up and stole the particles at the time where we are trying to stabilize them.
And yet, when the enemy comes up instead of the particle, the other players attack and get the loot.
In both cases, why not make as much loot as the particle, exclusive of the player who made the first test?
And if possible, make the particles appear at random points. It has many players camping in certain areas to try to catch the particles.
The event was frustrating because of this problems.
I agree. The event is a failure while those two thing can happen. You scan, an enemy appears and he's instantly killed by higher level PCs. You don't stand any chance of getting the kill.
As this event is some thing a "new" STO player can run, I expect it will turn them off big time.
Yes, I also had particles stolen at the point when I got one to go to the collection phase. Several times I notices players pull up behind me and wait a sec to see if it would happen.
It seemed like there was a slight delay in my action box comming up where theirs came up first and they were able to jump my particle claim.
I agree that this aspect of the event needs a fix to lock in the collection phase to the player who originally scanned the particle.
Overall though, the amount of spawns and drop rates seemed about right. I was able to farm 43 particles in the 50 minutes I was there, and given that a few of my particles were taken, I probably would have gotten to the max limit had I been there 60 minutes and the particle thieving was fixed.
I did notice that, as a low level captain, I didn't have any of the combat spawns get stole, which surprised me as I would have thought a higher rank could easily kill my spawn and get the loot, so nice work on keeping that fixed.
It's not a bug and has actually been designed into the tribble build of the game. It's winding everyone up, especially those with low level characters. I would expect (especially with the shear number of complaints) that this particular feature will either be gone, or adjusted to prevent campers stealing from lower levelled players.
this is know and gozer has some ideas to take care of the problem
althought mine was just bump everyones rank and go open pvp you know it would be fun
but in the end a solution is coming should be next week hopefully
well as far as camping goes i do not have a problem with this as its the only way you can actually stay in one area and not bother anyone else. they will just need to add a few more so it can adjust. What I have a problem with is people stealing your scan. To me this is childish and they are lazy to do it themselves. So some of you had great ideas and I hope it gets fixed soon as since we need Dilithium to pay for our ships no one wants someone stealing from them......
I don't care for events where you have to compete against other players to get the loot, it just makes people resentful that other players are around, which is the OPPOSITE of what an MMO should be, other players around you should be helpful.
you guys should have used the map window to change instance, I did it twice and was able to play for an hour and a half, one map only had ONE guy in it.

I made out like a bandit!
That's interesting because the event time is globally set to one hour, regardless of instance. Though, maybe before the patch it was more open. (I have tried hopping instances to see if I can get more many times )
Regardless,
I am a camper, and I spawn items (health generators and such) to mark my spot. I don't steal form others, and I try to place turrets in spots that they wont shoot down other peoples spawns (I am an admiral level on Tribble). That being said, I have had people do the walk behind and attempt to nab an expanding particle.
Many times a simple tell (try to keep it polite) will get people to move on. If people see they are getting a rise out of you, they will often stick around for the joy of it. The people shouting and getting personal in zone chat are simply adding fuel to them, while also risking having action taken for posting threats to other players.

well, the first map I was in had 32 minutes left and 50+ people got about 20 particles, I switched maps and it had 58 minutes left and ONE GUY on it, i ended up with 120+ particles.
I sold my particles / redeemed them before the timer ran out Maybe it was broken? Doesn't matter, thats how it went down.
I've seen weirder stuff, for example, I can't finish the current episode i am in, it loops back and won't let me finish. Now I have to grind the last couple hundred pts to RA1 via exploration missions.

You seem to think I was calling you a liar, which I wasn't. Please re-read my post, I more or less believe it is a bug FWIW .
Regardless, I am in the same grind you are. I am trying to get to VA1 and can't do feature missions anymore either. I get no more feature missions after doing War Games, prior to that, I could only get one feature mission per level which was also annoying.
I have posted a bug about this, but the Devs only seem to be reading threads regarding Duty officers and maybe dilithium.
I didn't realize you could steal thing. I saw other people killing the spawns. So I figured as I was running around I'd take a few shots too to help them kill it faster so they could move on. Then I noticed at one point it was my loot! Later I found another sitting there waiting for me to loot. I must have killed the Klingon and not noticed.
I figured, kinda like WoW, that once someone started scanning that particle was "tagged" for them and only them. Once I saw it was not, I stopped shooting at others. There should be no way someone can accidentally, let alone purposefully, take away from others.
Now, two people racing toward the same particle? Well, that's game-on and friendly competition! First to start scanning wins!

Excuse me my bad english.
Gozer is working on this. Earliest the fixes will go live is this weeks Thurs/Fri patch.

Glad to hear it. DIdn't know it was a problem until some piece of trash stole a particle out from under me today, and frankly it was enough to make me quit the event. If I wanted to play with that sort of loser, I'd still be on WoW. So I'm very, very, happy to hear these are bugs and not some chowderhead's idea of a "great feature." Thanks for the heads up.

This is what actually caused me to go on tilt and start griefing the one time I played it. With weird visual effects it is actually hard to line up your guy and the particle correctly. I don't want to be in a situation where I'm lining it up just to have someone steal it out from under me because of a computer issue. In that one instance, I then griefed the "sporting" individual for a couple minutes.
Combine that with the 6 people who descend on your Klingon (not knowing how kill credit is doled out) and the situation there is massively unpleasant. Please, we need enough blue particles for this not to happen.
...I get no more feature missions after doing War Games...
Go to the Beta Ursa sector space and fly near DS9. It's the only way I've found to get the next mission offered to you.
As for this event, I've done it once. When I first started it, I didn't know what was going on, so I probably did look like I was trying to steal particles since I went up to a few people scanning the particles wondering if something was going to happen. It wasn't until I got my first successful scan (10+ attempts) that I figured out what to do. I did have one particle stolen when I was scanning, but the next time that guy showed up next to me, I was ready.
The Klingons are a different matter. They're leveled to whoever did the scan, so some of them are obscenely easy for a passing higher-level player to one-shot, and thereby get the loot. I admit I did kill alot of klingons (and apologize for those that weren't for me) while running around looking for more things to scan, but if I ever do that event again, I'll definitely try to leave them for who they were intended.

Absolutely Right, I personally was disapointed with this event and expected something different like a combat training senario (tactical) or something else for engie and sci-guys
Just so people know: kill credit is assigned based on who took the first shot. Relative damage percentages don't matter and who killed the being doesn't matter.
This is why I laughed when people descended on my Klingon. I thought "I guess they didn't know."
I like the idea of the event, but the execution is somewhat meh.
The notion that a few times a day Star Fleet Academy becomes the wild west is unTrek to me. However, in addition to the stolen particles here are a few other griefing gems I have come across:
Stealing the expanding particle for collection.
Spawning a Klingon NPC and leaving him so he destroys portals.
I'd be happier with the event if there was another puzzel in place of the Klingon. That would alleviate two of the issues.
