Discharge starship ? Why not sell starship ?

Hi,,

Before F2P, if I wanted a new starship, I would spend Energy Credits and I would get any available starship in the Shipyard. If I did not like the starship, I just click on Discharge and no further financial loss.

Now, if I want to delete a starship, I will lose all dillitium I spent to get it.

My suggestion is: Why not allow the ship to sell it or use it as part payment for a new ship ?

Would not it be more fair to the players ?

Because then you might possibly get value for money and Cryptic can't have that. It's a great idea, but it's just not Cryptic's style to allow that sort of thing.

Ignoring the overly cynical man in the flamingo suit...

I think this is a good idea, but at the same time I get the feeling that part of the reason you have never been able to sell your ship is that they don't want you just changing ships like socks when you get tired of them. They want the changing of a ship (within a given tier) to be something you put a lot of thought into and don't enter into lightly. (And believe me, having played before EC inflation went rampant, I can say that it used to be exactly that)

And I can say for sure watching & reading various interviews online that they are doing everything in their power to keep Dilithium from blowing up the way EC did. Which is, IMHO a very smart move. Coming back to the game after more than a year, as an RA5 (that jumped immediately to RA6 with my various retroactively awarded accolades) and having about 300,000 EC to my name (after scrimping and saving when I played the first time around) really put some perspective on exactly how far EC had run away from them. I rerolled a new character instead of carry on with that one so I could learn the game again, and starting from the bottom with nothing and no one to shore up your finances is frankly ridiculous. If dilithium got to the same place, where the exchange rate becomes several hundred thousand dilithium for a few hundred C-Store points and there's so much of the stuff out there that everyone owns every ship with nothing but Dili bought purple gear on all of them, then I'd say the Devs failed.

Anyways, I'd say let us resell our ship for maybe half it's original value in Dilithium Ore. (not refined dilithium) So we can't just straight trade out one ship for another, we can't pool up our ships then sell them and get a huge pile of dilithium, we get ore that gets refined at the same rate as all the other ore we get, keeping that throttle on the economy firmly in place.

Being cynical myself, they won't go for it. And if they do, it will be for an insultingly low some of ENERGY CREDITS which are rendered mostly worthless.

Another reason it doesn't work is that they want to set up a currency market and then have direct sale from NPCs. If you had a secondary market, people would probably sell ships for fewer dilithium than the NPCs. This would leave the dilithium market weak. So they would make less money.

That only applies if they let you sell your ship to other players. If it's just an option you have replacing discharge that gives you Dilithium, then they're still in full control of it.

Personally I think you should either get 50% of or 25% of the value of the ship you discharge. That way even if you discharge ships all the time it never really amounts to the same amount of dilithium you spent when you purchased it.

Considering the effort it takes to get enough Dilithium for a ship...they better let us sell them off. Doesn't have to be to other players, but it needs to be in the system.

If not...this game becomes even more of a grind.
