Hargh'Peng Bound on Pickup

Yes, I know this has been mentioned several times in the Klingons now have the Hargh'Peng thread. As of yet I have not seen a seperate thread on this issue though. I felt it was worthy of one. I, and a lot of other players, aren't crafters. Some of us, like me, aren't crafters simply because we don't like crafting. Others because they just haven't picked it up. Some because they just don't like this crafting system and so on..

My point is;

All of us who aren't crafters can't get it. If I want to get it, I will have to get a skill above 1500. This is almost extortionistic towards me. I am one of those who have really wanted a Hargh'peng, and I can't get it.

Also, this is one of those items crafters could have sold on the auction house, and expected to make good proffit from. It would have given crafting another purpose. Yet they cannont sell it. I had a mate that wanted to make me one, he couldn't.

Why is this so?
It seems Cryptic has simply transplanted the device, the Hargh'peng, without changing any rules from the mission reward. This includes it being bound on pickup. This would have been perfectly fine if it had been added to the Klingon side as a mission reward. It has not. It has been added as a crafting item.

As such it is unavailable to a large proportion of Klingon players. On the Federation side anyone wanting it can simply run the mission. On the Klingon side, only those with more than 1500 crafting skill can craft a Mk XI Hargh'peng.

If it has to be bound, at least it could have had a required skill of 0 or 180. Then every Klingon wanting one could have made one, just as any Federation wanting one, can run a mission. Just as their mission takes time, so does aquiring those resources. I mean, all Federation can craft the Delta Flyer. Everyone can make a Horta at 180.

tl;dr version: WAAAAAAAAH! I can't buy my Peng boat!

It's no different fed side. I'd much rather have my Fed buy them, that mission isn't exactly abbreviated. But this would make a lot of people rich, just like Aegis. Most KDF already have 3+ million EC at LTG (I know my KDF hit LTG with 3mil, until I spent a lot of it). You know what I did with that cash? I bought a max stack of Tier 1 data samples and exploded my Crafting rank. I jumped up from "Can't craft S**T Captain!" to "Crafting Miracle Worker" in about 2 hours. Go out and buy the LEVELS. Then it isn't an issue.

    ^^^^This.

I had to spen a TRIBBLE ton of EC to get my one toon to max since I haven't really decided what I was going to do with him so I put him in B'Rel-R with pengs. So now I have 3 toons top max crafting 1 fed 2 KDF. It really is not that hard and it can go as fast or slow as you want.

It's a bit obnoxious but it really isn't that hard to grind crafting as opposed to repeating that mission over and over. Plus, in the end, you have high level crafting for the next half baked item release, lol.

Also, there was word that the Doff system will provide another means of acquiring them. You'd likely have crafting capped by then though.

I understand the OP's position and to an extent agree but I must point out that Klinks have more excuse to craft than the Feds ever do... With all the Nebula Grinding they do they can collect TONS of samples and a number of their other missions drop samples on them as well.

To be honest I don't understand the issue. You wanted Pengs, they were added, and now everyone is crying that they werent added as a free get now option.

To be honest, crafting in this game is a joke to level up already compared to a lot of other games (including Champions). It takes a few hours at most to get enough samples to max it. I was max crafting by the time I hit commander, that alone should tell you how hard this was.

Not to mention the super cheap data that's available for auction. I found many many stacks of 250 on all ranks that were under 500k. At 1 point/data that means that you can get your 1600 points for 3.2 mil. At General you should have more than that by simply selling junk impulse engines.

Or does it bother people they can't mission for the aegis sets too?

If your angry now about how much you need to craft on all your characters, just imagine how mad you'll be when the Peng's get nerfed to uselessness.

While I'm glad cryptic finally got around to making them available to the KDF, I see cryptic nerfing them again since we have both factions crying about them now.

How many items are crafted and bound on pick up?
I can think of one. I need to verify the Horta, it might count also.

I know, since everybody doesn't have a problem getting their characters to top level crafting, then let's make all items in crafting "Bound on Pickup" for both factions.
No more moving items between toons, no more selling items on exchange, no more crafting items for fleeties and friends, ZIP, nada, nothing to see here move on.

The precedence for this move is the Pengs being bound.

Let's not gimp one faction and one item, let's spread it around and see how much animosity we can really create!

Well, with the help of a friend, I leveled my crafting from 0-1620 in about four and a half hours. Perhaps five. After six hours I had my Hargh'peng. Still, making 10 tons of schematics and grinding anomalies for resources, and making various weapons and ship components for five hours. Shouldn't have been necessary to do all this simply to get my hands on the Hargh'peng. Though, in hindsight, if you got a good friend, and time on your hands, getting from A to Z isn't that hard.

So, I am now a crafter, in contradiction to what my original post said. Beyond that, I still stand for what I wrote. I feel it was unecessary to make it a high-end craftable item and to limit it to bind on pickup. It should have been bind on equip.
Bottom line: Now that I got the Hargh'peng I thank Cryptic for finally adding it to the Klingon side.

Technicalyl it is not that high end.
For Mk XI yes you need high crafting level, but that applies to ALL Mk XI items.
But there are still lesser versions that require lower crafting levels.

In addition i believe one of the devs have stated that they will also be obtainable as a reward through the new Duty Officer system.

I'm only a commander 2 right now and have a 1500 crafting rating. It's not hard to do if you start doing it from the beginning. My ship and crew are full of Mk 6 blue and purple and all I had to do with click on anomalies while doing the various klingon missions. It's incredibly easy to do. STO has some of the easiest crafting I've ever seen.

Thereare Mk V, VII, IX versopns aailible to be crafted also. I think its a little rude we cant sell em, but then eveyone over prices everything on the market anyway..

And you cant even check by unit price for the best deals..

"Hey ya got most of an MMO and Star Trek, what are ya complaining about?"
"The most of an MMO part buddy..."

Is it 100% confirmed that its obtainable through the DOFF system?

If thats the case I wont have to grind the crappy crafting system for something I only want because its 'Klingon' :p

Close to confirmation as we've got of anything in the doff system, this was one of the screenshots Heretic posted a while back showing a 2 hour assignment to get a har'peng launcher.

There's a difference though. With my Fed characters I need only one crafter. If I wanted more Pengs on Klingon side I'd have to level up crafting for all of them.

Can't wait for the DOff system.
