Androids and Holograms, Qapla!

We've seen this delicious little nibblet in several Engineering Reports:
  • More Species (Androids, Aenar, Talaxian, Hologram species)

So I was thinking, what would Klingon Androids and Holograms look like? They certainly wouldn't be the streamlined, personable versions made by the people in the Federation.

To my mind, I think Holograms are fairly simple as far as looks go, the AlienGen system should do nicely, it's the static overlay they use for everything Holographic in this game working with all the disparate options in the AlienGen that's the problem.

Androids, well.. Androids are a problem. What kind of Android would KDF Scientists and Engineers design? They wouldn't be likely to design a Terminator, stealing the honor and glory from the Warriors of the Empire. Nor would they design them as toys, easily shattered and broken by the slightest bump or jolt..

Anybody else have any thoughts?

There's already a Klingon Hologram in game (the Holo-BOFF recruitment reward).

Just like The Doctor basically looked human, I'd imagine Klingon holograms would look Klingon. The only difference is turning into a mobile emitter when KOed on away missions instead of a sprawled body. (That's what happens with Holo-BOFFs. I think it's a great touch.)

The idea of artificial crewmen seems foreign to Klingon sensibilities... but well in line with Orion sensibilities so.

I think the hologram could look like an Orion slavegirl/boy, I'm sure those holosuite programs sell pretty well.

As for an android, the work of an eccentric genius left alone in a cold uncaring universe? No reason at all to think the madman who made the Klingon Android cares two figs about Klingon's feeling emasculated. So once more, slightly off color Orion but with Android Strength and Android resilience.

I don´t like the idea of androids and holograms being mass-produced at all. Too many ethical issues imo. But since they´re going to do it anyway... :(:o:)

Hologram species and Androids sounds really cool in my opinion. It adds more customization to the game and it is something a bit more unique than most MMO's out there. For those that like the character Data on TNG people can make one similar to him. So I am looking forward to when they add them to the game. :)

But wouldn't Klingons rather just use the technology to supplement themselves, think angry Klingon with cybernetic arm, etc.

Truth is I think it would go against the Klingon way of thought to have an android. Remember they are a warrior race who values honor and combat prowess. What honor is there in unleashing your android on someone. Its like the ship receiving the honor of a kill and the captain and crew being ignored. If that makes sense.

However, if the did build an android I have the feeling it would end up more like the terminator than data.

Sending wave after wave of androids or holograms would be against a Klingon's nature, but an android like Data or a hologram like the Doctor that have shown honor and courage on more than one occasion would have the Klingon's respect. After all, it not whats on the outside, but whats on the inside that matters.

While I´m not fond of the idea of mass-produced holograms and androids, we are talking about sentient persons. There is no unleashing involved. The playbale androids are not mindless killer-robots after all. ;)

I'm only for Holo's for the KDF

The KDF in general is waay behind in technology to even create 1 Android. Hell the Federation isn't that great either with their skill at it.

Who says the KDF Androids would have be as advanced? Instead of fleshlike skins, humanoid proportions, and general psuedo-biological Androids, the KDF could have rough, Steel-shod IronMan-like Constructs.

Sentient AI is roughly the same challenge for an Android as it is for a Hologram, so just stick a Sentient AI inside a tough-as-nails chassis and call it a day.

Androids and holos will end up being used way out of proportion. I don't like it.

It's going to be ridiculous to see the ESB, for example, swarming with the bloody things.

Like any other new toy in STO this will explode day 1 and slowly die off. Each next new toy will expedite this until only the most devoted will be seen.

Mass produced androids in the millions might not fit well with the klingons but a few hundred (one per crew) might be be acceptable. In my mind a klingon android would have a more machine feel to it, think assimilated undine head mounted on an space suit w/ built-in wrist mounted disruptors, subspace relay and scanner. It wouldn't be interested in learning to become more human/klingon, it 's built for warfare and is programmed to follow orders.
