I like this. Finally, the creators of the Hargh'Peng torpedoes can get them! Honestly, I'd love to run the entire Kuvag'Magh arc from the Klingon standpoint.
My point, this is one of the greatest example of missions that will fit very well the KDF play style and Lore. Hopefully, they can do that while remastering these missions for both feds and KDF. Above all, I am glad this project moves from "in discussion" to "in design" for a S4 patch.
I was pleased to see it. I've been against any type of faction merge and opening Federation missions to Klingons. However, I've always liked the idea of converting the Federation missions into some type of KDF experience that focuses on the Klingon point of view. I'm not going to get too excited about seeing them any time soon though. Before the Devs can get to those, I'd think they would need to finish the changes to the STFs, Featured Series 4, and the Borg Invasion.
I wanted original missions, but if this means that we finally get a smoother leveling experience then I say bring them on. I've wanted to play a Klingon since this game was announced with Perpetual, and I'm still waiting. I tried to play one, but just couldn't stomach the exploration or pvp grind.
Not trying to be pessimistic, but you'll notice that there was no mention of how many missions would be converted for KDF during Season 4 and that it's still in the discussion stage.
I do believe it will happen eventually. Just don't want people running away with "Dstahl said...!!!" and then spreading discontent when it doesn't happen on their personal schedule.
Slightly off-topic...
From a dual-faction game engine standpoint, I'm curious about whether the "faction-neutral" missions are actually one mission file with maps playable by both factions, or if they aren't actually separate, nearly identical missions with one per faction.
I mean, the Foundry only allows us to create faction-specific missions. That leads me to wonder if, for example, the Featured Episodes weren't actually duplicated for each faction rather than containing logic that allows the game engine to adjust the mission for the player's faction. That would explain a lot.
The Kuvagh' Ma'; Saturday's Child, and The Doomsday Device are three missions that could very much be 'made Klingon' and not feel like Federation mission with the UFP logo filed off (imo).
As for future KDF content - I really do tghink that if they can do new FE series on a degular schedule (with no more than a two week break in between); I think they should labor to make an FE series here and there that actually caters to the KDF more than the Feds - and comes across as a more KDF focused series, etc. (Hell, the whole cloked intentions FE came across like a Romulan-centric story, and if/when the Rom faction is added, new players might feel it is Romulan faction content.)
From Dev comments (and aside from any future remastering of existing content - new ' specifically designed for one faction only' content is a thing of the past. They even plan to make a new tutorial that's more generic and can be used for any faction as the starting point. (And this is nothing new for MMOs Honestly, in all the fantasy MMOs, the only areas with faction only content are teh various starting cities. Once you get out in to the wider virtual world, most content is faction agnostic - in that it's the same basic quest, just with slightly different dialogue - which is tech STO already has as well.
Again, I think making the occassional FE series that can of course be played by all factions, but who's story is more slanted towards one faction or the other is an okay way to go; as long as they work within that mindset. Is it a perfect solution? No, but if done right I think it could work in the long run.

That is why I went with reserved optimism. Season 4 still has a lot of other things they need to get to that they have talked about more. While I would hope they would do more than one converted mission for the Klingons, any addition to the Klingon mission set would be an improvement. I was a little surprised that they didn't make a Klingon version of Doomsday when they remastered it. It seemed like such an obvious mission to convert.

Agreed, I am just glad that they are giving the KDF the attention they need even if it is just converting some Fed Missions to do it. I can live with that if it feels Klingy enough for me.
My thoughts are these ideas will take longer than Gorn appearance revamp to go live.
So 2013 might be a good time to start a Klingon?
Depends... If it needs new maps and the map experts are booked solid, then it'll probably wait. If it needs new objects to put on a map, likewise. But since these would be based off of existing missions, I'd bet that the requirements would be reasonably modest. I wouldn't be surprised if a good Foundry author would be able to make one, given the right maps and such.
I'm thinking Gozer could whip up new missions pretty darn fast if he gets enough breathing room. The key to making them successful is a good story hook that doesn't make the missions feel like retreads.
while we're at it I think that this woul;d be an excellent time to "fill in the gaps" B'vat's motivations are a bit of a mystery to me, and it'd be a good chance to give us some insight there
-With a bit of tweaking the missions involving the Hirogen could work for the klinks.
Again
-The Romulan-borg Hybrid ship story arc would work fine with a bit of dialog editing.
Cardassian Front -
-Section 31 Mission - dialog tweaking
-Trials with Tribbles - kill the tribbles!!!
-1 Mission regarding the Mirror Klingon-Spoonhead Alliance.
Yes I see there still not in teaching even though we told about these mission back in march. In that time federation got three remaster episodes. I would not expect those mission till September at the earliest.
Of course we also told we getting a klingon academy. Starfleet gets there tomorrow and as normal nothing for the Klingons.
they have been promising the remastered missions for over a year.
Just to prove how long it is going to be for us to get it, in feb, they stated that the fed remastering of their missions will take a year to complete.
No timeline for us for even one of those missions.
As much as it would be nice, i see no reason to hold my breath.

I agree with the above...
And yet players who are paying every month to play STO can crank out missions on the Foundry in short order.
I don't understand how that can be...

Fully agree with you
I expect new KDF content more later then earlier.
