KDF should have a different warp-out sound than the Feds.

Just as the title says.

The sounds of a Federation ship going to warp is a combination of many sounds, from the Navigational Deflector powering up to clear the line of flight of dust and minor debris, the Warp Nacelles being injected with Warp Plasma, and the Coils absorbing the plasma-energy and generating the Warp Field, to the ships Inertal Dampening systems ramping up that millisecond before acceleration.

There's no way a Klingon ship, even utilizing Klingon versions of all the same systems, would sound exactly the same.

Our Impulse engines sound different, why not our Warp engines?

    Because even after so much time, the KDF in STO is a reskinned copy of the Federation.
    And there are so very few instances of a Klingon ship goining to warp that was shown from the outside we can use as a basis.
    The instances from Star Trek 3 and 4 where the BoP engages its warp engines come to mind immedeatelly.
    Does anyone remember others?

    I remember that one. I watched the two episodes with the Klingon Civil War, to see if there was anything there, but there wasn't. But I'd picture it as a bit more rocky, almost an angry sound, like the engine itself was venting its fury upon space itself.

    I don't have the episode names, but I know there are a few episodes of Ds9 that feature The "Rataran" Martok's flagship, has to be a warp in/out sequence there someplace.

    You're right.
    Even though it's not always the Rotarren you're still absolutely right, thanks.

    There's "Once More Unto the Breach" where we can see a BoP drop out of warp, turn 180 degrees, change wing config from cruise to attack and warp out again.

    I'm all for giving each faction as much of a unique "flavor" as possible.

    This. This. Five hundred times this. I understand they cannot continually, if nothing else for the sake of trying to keep the game as balanced as they can, continually churn out new things. But at least if they make it feel new or feel different that is enough for us to suspend the realization that it is the same. It's one of the reasons I am not totally raging over the fact the Varanus is essentially a poor copy of the DSSV....

    and when one listens to the sound iut's pretty much the same as the federation warp sound.

    That it sounds like a vending machine?
    Or like a pair of Bat'leths clashing together?:p
    A diesel engine is a diesel engine and yet they don't all sound identical either.
    Phasers and disruptors are also pretty much the same, they fire either beams or pulses, just their colour is different.
    I bet everyone would be happy if Cryptic had just used one single visual and acoustic effect for all the energy weapons in this game because they are all like the Phaser.;)


    So warp drive does have some characteristics that are going to be similar as long as the basic principle behind the engine stays the same.
    But when you listen closely (try a pair of headphones if that helps) it sounds different from any Warp-out
    we've had over the shows.

    OMG that's genius. They can sell "warp out" sounds like the istore sells ringtones! I'd totally drop .50 dollars to make my warp out sound like the Optimus Prime saying "transform and roll out!"

    Sound Engineers =/= Content Developers, Character, Environment, or Ship Artists/Modelers, honestly, they've just finished giving an audio pass to all ground weapons and powers, other than maybe some VO, I don't see them working on this causing any kind of delays in other projects.

    I really suggest you take a look at who is doing what for this game.
    And which functions are orthogonal to each other.
    Coders don't do sound, modelers don't do code and sound artists aren't doing any missions.
    So why would there be any sacrifice to updates?

    Yeah, I know. Logic is evil. I wouldn´t mind a different sound but on my priority list for KDF stuff this... it´s not even on the list. :p

    I'm looking forward to the response to your ticket "you should remove all sounds from space combat[...]";)

    Anyway since we already have a different sound effect when we fire up our engines after standing still our own warp-out sound is the next logical step.
    When this is done is unsure.
    But when we have a thread about it where we can point to and say "we've found an episode where such a sound was in, so we have a canon example" it reduces the risk of Cryptic coming up with a sound of their own that doesn't fit at all.
