Regarding New Gorn Textures

I decided to post this in Klingon Game play because it pertains mostly to KDF but affects all gorn characters.

I like the new gorn textures and i think the re imagined look is impressive.

But my complaint is the fact that we are being forced into it, by ostensibly making it so we will receive these textures upon our next visit to the tailor.

I don't want to see a improvement have a black mark on it because of this, I also don't want to be locked into something that doesn't make sense to be locked into something.

In short, I believe that they should retain the old gorn look as well as the new gorn look.

Call the old Gorn look "Classic Gorn" or "TOS Gorn" and call the new gorn "Re-Imagined Gorn"

I have a gorn with the old look but i also have a second costume slot with the new gorn look. I personally prefer my old classic gorn look, but I know a lot of people like the new gorn look at well, and there isn't any reason why both looks can't be in the tailor.

I'm asking any gorn players to voice their opinions, and maybe generate some interest by the devs to put the old school gorn parts back into the tailor.

Signed and bumped. If there's anyway to keep OG (old Gorn) art in the tailor and character creator, that would be fantastic.

That has been brought up several times since the new look was annouced and unfortunately Cryptic has said that the old parts are not compatible with thr new parts and also not with the new clothing.
So to prevent combinations that would cause visual issues you're "focibly" converted when you go to the tailor.
IMO there would be a few things they could do however.

    1. There is currently only 1 gender, so make another look that is very similar to the old one in terms of head shape but also compatible with the new components and add that as the second gender

But also make the difference from other races that the two "genders" we have now are not actually genders but two different castes
We know from material also used by this game (it was mentioned in the STO novel after all) that the Gorn have different castes that also look different so why not use that?
So there would for example be different "names" on the gender buttons, not "male" and "female", but "warior caste" and "technical caste"
Sure the chars we have now would be unaffected by these "new old options" but at least new chars could look more akin to the old ones

    2. There were several colour optios with the old Gron that are now missing, for example there was a recent post by someone who had set up an "albino Gorn" and he wanted to keep it as well.
But since there are only a hand full of colour options now, he's hesitant to go to the tailor to make any changes.
I'd like Cryptic to return to the old colour pallette for Gorn scale colour options.

my point is that, i don't like the idea of taking anything away from a game, having to choose between one feature over another.

If the Devs would have to make them over again, i would hate that the old textures cant be used, but if they have to then i guess that's what they would need to do.

But I like my old gorn, and want to be able to go to the tailor again.

Aaahh HAhaha :) they are Gorn with the wind. :)

Seriously. I need to play kdf more so I can get annoyed by stuff like this too.

    I totally agree!
I liked the classic Gorn very much and created one before Season 4, only so that I don't have to use the new ones. But I also like them! The new ones are looking more aggressive and have more customization options, while the old ones look like they should. I always felt that the new overhaul should be like new "textures" for the old Gorn with more costumization options.

Except that my "new" gorn already has visual issues as well as gameplay issues. Whenever he scans something, his claws impale the device because of how he holds it so I wonder if I'm not replicating a new one every time I scan something. A more serious issue would be that my Gorn is so tall that targeting things with his shotgun is wildly inaccurate. The reticle isn't where the blasts are fired (they're actually a fair bit lower).

Old Gorn seem to work just fine with the older clothing, so why can't those who want the old Gorn just stick with old customization?

Actually, for some reason my emotes consider my 8' monster Gorn to be female (using 'her', etc.)
I bugged it already, but it was a "wait, wtf?" moment all around when we read that.

I actually made a post about this, and it was very quickly pitched into the Gameplay Feedback forum where it died. Here it is if anyone cares:

    Gorn Night, and Gorn Luck

It's honestly the biggest issue I have with the game right now (but that might be because I'm a wee bit OCD about things that I REALLY want to change but am helpless to do so). I re-subbed to STO earlier this week (after a year away) after S4 hit, cause I had an itch to play again. Unfortunately, this meant by the time I logged back in it was too late to tweak my Gorn.

And honestly, I think the new models are wonderful looking: but I was one of those zany white skinned, albino looking Gorn and that look simply doesn't exist currently with the new models. You've got green, light green, dark green, blue green, and brownish green, no albino Gorn. And the body proportions of my Gorn are something I"d very, very much like to tweak a bit (and maybe his outfit too). But now I can't, possibly ever, and he'll forever be trapped being imperfect in my eyes. Either I don't edit him and he's still not quite the character I want him to be, or I do and I lose my absolute favorite physical trait of his. And I have used his extra costume slot to try out the new model... it looks awesome, but it doesn't look like my Gorn.

Honestly, I'd prefer if they'd let me edit him as he is with the old model. Second option: at least expand the range of customization (at least with skin tones, that's MY one beef right now) to match that of the original Gorn model.

I've actually opened tickets regarding this, cause hey: maybe it was just a bug/oversight on Cryptic's part that we can't. Technically I opened two, cause after I sent in the first one it didn't show up on my "Open Tickets" list. I figured I must've hit "Cancel" instead of "Submit", so I sent in a new ticket... and then the original one popped back up. It's set to "Resolved", but there was no actual response. Literally just blank under the part where it says "GM Response". :(

Still, I'm not gonna give up on it: the Albino Gorn must rise again, so that he may continue his mission to vaporize as many people as possible with his teeth.

And I agree, fully. Hence why I'm totally /signing this thread after my rant of a post.

Honestly, the new models are really and truly awesome. That said, the old ones aren't shabby either. But the problem is, my Gorn can never really look like the Gorn he's always been with the new models currently. I'm sure it's an issue Cryptic wrestled with (I've seen Devs for WoW openly admit they really want to update a lot of the player character models, but haven't yet out of fear of ticking people off who don't like the changes), but I sincerely hope they come to a way to let "everyone win".

Indeed, they need a Michael Scott style win-win-win situation. Give us the option to go with both looks. Players who wanted more detailed looking Gorn win, players who wanted their Gorn to retain their classic look or just liked the old look better win, and the Devs win for making literally everyone involved happy.

Do it, Cryptic, do not leave me in Gorning over my character.
