Lately I've been trying to challenge other players and realized there could be some improvements in gameplay. Here is what happened.
I went to several places in First City. I held my Bat'leth and shook it at players running by. I then started clicking on each and picking 'Challenge Player'. I did this almost 30 times over the two day weekend.
The results:
85% simply rejected the offer
10% accepted but once we moved to the map they used energy weapons
5% (1 person) wanted to fight with his Bat'leth but fleet members were also accidently invited and they blew him away so we could not fight... my fault, was my first time and I didn't handle it right and wouldn't you know.. my only chance since every other attempt failed for other reasons.
When those few that DID accept the challenge, either my level was far above them, of they were far above me (Captain 5)... so it was blood bath... no joy.
So here is my suggestion:
1. Promote PVP Bat'leth challenges and when agreed, users must use Bat'leth... maybe do it in that map that looks like an arena and have Bat'leth's available for players to pick up off a rack.
2. One on one only... don't offer option to add fleet members
3. Match level during battle... then can be real challenge... don't match Bat'leth strength to encorouge ownership of fine weapon, but match character level... so beginner can challenge anyone.
4. There are two places in First City where I see Bat'Leth challenges by NPC... maybe one, or both could be where real players hang out for the Bat'Leth PVP.
5. Winning 3 or 5 could provide points and credits so if someone wanted, they could Bat'Leth up to General.
This could make being a Klingon, a whole lot more fun... honestly, I struggle for things to do as Captain. There's not much available, I'm sure you're developers are working on a lot of new content. Ask one of them to spend a day on this. I wouldn't mind if items 4 & 5, above, were postponed until later... but 1 & 2 & 3 should be deployed together.

I'm not sure why you'd expect any different from blind challenges... Try announcing in Zone or in GroundPVP and you might get better luck.

Really good ideas, but I wouldn't limit to 1v1. Evenly-matched teams should be allowed as well. Though it would be good if you could select what team sizes you wanted.
The new challenge circle would be perfect for that, too - just register with the battle-master and wait until he sends you in
The best bat'leth fighting I've had was weapons only - no shields, armor, kits, heals, tribbles, etc. to give anyone an additional advantage. That way the emphasis is on the individual's skill with the bat'leth.
I love my Bat'leth on my Gorn Science captain. Very easy to just spam it until expose procs, and then can exploit with Bite for huge damage/the hilarity of vaporizing things via biting. In PvE when it forces me to go solo, I have FAR more success doing that then trying to just pewpew harder than the NPCs with my janky disruptor.
Still, we totally need Bat'leth only PvP tournaments/fights. Why not take advantage of the little arenas the Klingons have set up in First City?
Oh, and to reiterate: bites capable of vaporizing people are fantastic.
I have suggested that there be a "Tsunkatse" arena that is melee only. I would also be the shizzle if Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's character, The Pendari Chapmion is the ringmaster.

My Gorn Tactical just Bites and does the ol' Cap'n Kirk Dropkick/Lunge move.
He DID, however, get First Place in the tournament in that one mission arc....
