Heretic has mentioned that he is working on more ship skins, including (yay!) ones for the KDF.
Two of them were leaked to Tribble before Crossfire went live but have been taken off. One for the B'Rel/B'Rel-Retrofit BoP, one for the Quldun BoP.
I'm making this thread as a repository for suggestions, ideas, and requests for Heretic to keep in mind while he works on other KDF skins.
Please note: Heretic cannot use player-designed ships, or ships from other games, books, comics, the Animated Series, or anything outside of the television shows and movies as his basis for these designs, so lets keep all those out, shall we?
Since I'm starting this thread, I might as well start with mine, please remember, these are just my own personal opinions, offered up as constructive suggestions, I'm not trying to bash the skins we have, and I would appreciate if we could keep this thread positive:
K'Tanco Battle Cruiser:
- Make the two "fins" on the underside of the hull optional.
- The nacelles should be included in the wing/pylon customization, and the alternate skin should have them moved away from the main hull, in the middle of the wing/pylon.
- The "saucer" of the alternate skin should have a more rounded underside, the "scoop" just doesn't say "Battle Cruiser" to me.
Somraw Raptor:
- Don't include the "wires" on the alternate skin, it already has pylons.
- A prominent torpedo launcher is a must.
- Some visually recognizable cannon mounts (ala the underside of the Hegh'Ta) would be nice.
Qorgh Raptor:
- Wires, cannon mounts, yeah, you know.
- An increase in size would be nice, it feels much too small compared to the BoPs, or, alternatively, reduce the size of the BoPs.
Norgh BoP:
- No suggestions, my favorite BoP, seems the most logical advancement of the BoP design.
Pach Raptor:
- Wires, cannon mounts, yeah, you know.
- The neck. Can we get a real connecting hull? The pipes and wires and narrow connections seem fragile.
Ki'Tang BoP:
- The nacelles? Three previous generations of BoP and the nacelles were always incorporated into the wings, why now are they tacked on the top? Optional, please.
- Weird, spiky things on the Wing cannons. I would prefer wing cannons more like the Norgh, or maybe the Haj.
- Wing angle seems too sharp when down in attack position, compare to the Norgh or Hegh'Ta for a better (wider) angle, the Haj is another example of too narrow an angle.
Varanus Fleet Support Vessel:
- I love the Varanus, and I know, in the back of my mind, it needs something, but I can't figure out just what as of yet. I'll get back to you.
I haven't played around with the Marauder, Kar'Fi, or Garumba yet, so I don't feel confident making suggestions on them (yet).
Comments
Yep, I make them do stuff, he makes them do stuff with class.
Well, I feel silly now. My intent is still good!
Logan, if you're reading this, my sincerest apologies.
I don't know if its just me, but I find the Pach and the Qorgh to be the most futuristic looking of the raptors, mostly due to the styling of the main part of the hull. So it would be nice to have a similiar style of hull for the Qin. Hopefully more on the Qorgh side of things.
Also I'd say the qin needs a more complex looking nacelle. Even if its just letting it use the nacelles of the Haj variant Hegh'ta bird of prey or even the same ones the Pach and Qorgh use.
For the Pach and Qorgh, a less futuristic skin would be appropriate, borrowing more from the Somraw and current Qin, less plated hulls, more smooth. And a solid neck for the Pach as I really disliked that about the Pach.
And ofcourse relating it all back to the somraw, for the mainstay keeping the upward slanting pylons, hefty head section and the hump situated between two long wings. Although the odd change is welcome as long as the selections are mostly like that.
And have weapon fire come from places that look like weapons. No heavy cannon shots from red dots please
Just my two bits worth, hope its given you some ideas for the poor mostly forgotten raptors
Though someone did have a thought in another thread about the possibility of some of the KDF ships keeping the lower tier options and just getting the new tier of parts added onto what they already had available...
The discussion was about BoP ships though, not sure how well that'd work for ships with differing geometry going up the tiers though.
And I would love to see a Gorn-Klingon hybrid ship. The vor'cha was the result of the alliance with the Federation so now that the Gorn Hegemony is ruled by the Klingon Empire, it would be nice to see what kind of ship they could come up with.
Another battlecruiser skin for the Vor'cha would be good too, I think something similar in layout to the K'tnco, rather than other KDF cruisers, for extra variety. Many KDF players use DHCs, and it'd be cool to have a cruiser clearly "sporting" them so to speak. I also think inboard nacelles are kind of a cool touch in some cases. Also, as the Vor'cha has a skin you have to pay for, it'd make sense for it to have more free variety, much like the Comet/Maelstrom/Phoenix etc are complimenting an already full garage of ship skins.
Also, some new skins for the Kar'fi, Marauder and Garumba would be cool, just like changing the hull colour rather than new models. It'd give them more variety and personalisation options without having to compromise the unique design of these ships, which I thin is a strong point for them in each case.
soo your a pakled =^o^=
as you make stuff go?
How about the K'vort as a distinct ship?;)
How about yes please!
So long as its a cruiser, and not just shoved in as a raider, and preferrably with its wings fixed in the fight position.
On my wishlist since day 1!:)
This would be amazig, they could give it a few minor tweaks and add detail like extra windows to show it's larger. From what I recall of "Reunion" and "Redemption" they were a little wider than a Vor'cha. It'd be cool if they were around Mogai sort of size and had battle cloak, like most BoPs.
They were big, but nowhere the size of the Mogai.
The most consistent size for the large BoPs was around 300-350 meters in lenght.
Which translates into something around 400 meters width, since the BoP is wider than long and even more so with the wings in a nearly horizontal position.
Which is the reason they were wider than the Vor'cha.
The Mogai...well see for yourself:
http://employees.csbsju.edu/rsorensen/modelcitizen/trekships/romulans/Nemesis_comparison.jpg
It's nearly twice as long as the large BoPs.
Not sure what size they have ingame, sizes in this game are somewht fuzzy anyway depending which ship you use as a basis for comparison you end up with some odd results.
Personally after I first saw "Nemsis" my thought was that the Romulans now not only had a counterpart to the Galaxy (D'deridex" but also one to the Vor'cha (Valdore) but in both cases with a typical Romulan characteristic: they are bigger.;)
I feel Cryptic put the Mogai in as an escort due to...a distinct lack of alternatives.
And I hope when they begin to add a few more ships to the Romulans (like they did when they added the "Heavy Escort" to the True Way) they'll put the Mogai in as a cruiser and replace the escort version with something that makes more sense.
For an actual non-NPC Romulan Fleet, I'd say the D'deridex as something akin to the Federation Star Cruiser and the Mogai as something like the Vor'cha would be nice and fitting.
Just with less turnrate than their conterparts but a battlecloak to compensate for that.
But a bit closer to the topic:
Just a few weeks ago you and I discussed what a T5 K't'inga might be like.
And in the end we both held the blief it's sorelymissing from T5 but we both had different ides about how it could be implemented BO slot-wise.
How about giving the K'vort the opposite one of the two configs we came up with?
Or at least something similar?
One problem: This thread is not about new ships.
It is about new ship skins, visual customization of ships already in-game.
Please keep this on topic, I want Cap'n Logan to have plenty of ideas as he works to give the KDF more customization options.
Very well, here's an idea from...last year actually when Cap'n Logan asked from some ideas on KDF ships.
It was ignored then and will probably be ignored now as well (they added the D7 which makes no sense there as a third skin instead of what I proposed) but who cares?
http://forums.startrekonline.com/showpost.php?p=3490010&postcount=62
I originally proposed it as a K't'inga skin, then as a possible additional Raptor design, but I presume it would work as just another Raptor skin as well.
In regards to skins for the Vor'Cha, I would like to see a more heavily armoured version of the Vor'Cha - the same shape and look with the forked head and triangular rear fin, but bulked out with additional hull plating much like the current Negh'Var variant.
I don't mean raised, sweeping pylons and nacelles, or grand Primary hulls, but more a certain... *searches for words* sense of modernisation. Less surface clutter, and more 'under the bonnet' aesthetics.
The Qin Raptor is an almost perfect example of a new style and look of modernisation. Unfortunately, it also has some horrible nacelles (sorry CpnLogan!) and the wires connecting the inpulse drives to the nacelles look, well, unnecessary.
Creative mixing and matching can produce some great looking 'modern' designs (such as the combination of my Vor'cha and Tor'kaht) and so I would welcome anything that adds to a more streamlined KDF fleet.
It was intended by those who designed ships for that era to show that in the 22nd cneutry Klingon ships wold depend on some kind of "external reinforcement" technique to hold their ships together since "back then" structural reinforcement fields would be less advanced.
Hence you can see those "wires" on the Raptor

the D5,

the 22nd centruy BoP

and also on the planned but unused Battlecruiser from "Unexpected" that got replaced by a K't'inga because the producers didn't like the windows on the ship that was designed for free (!) for that episode.

I have no idea whose idea it was to reintroduce this clear 22nd century design element that is nowhere to be found on any ship after that era again in the 25th, but it makes no sense to me either.
It's a throwback comparable to modern warships suddenly returning from diesel/fuel cell/nuclear propulsion to sails without explanation.
There are already indications of the KDF using concepts obtained during their alliance with the Feds, like the use of Bussard Collectors in addition to the collectors in the wings that the K't'inga uses exclusively for that purpose.
WHen you look at the K't'inga and then at the Negh'var and Vor'cha, the necks have also become more robust and the ships have become somewhat more angular than rounded in the forward section as well.
But somehow Cryptic has managed to overlook those "little details" and therfore the ships look somewhat "retro", like some are more inspired by the 22nd than the 24th century.
I think there should be at least one skin per ship that lloks like it was actually inspired by the 24 century and is no "retro" ship with "wires" that don't fit the era at all.
I just tell myself stuff like wires and theHegh'tas wing prongs are some kind of passive sensor system for while cloaked.:D
I bet the Klingons can even use it at night, because the wires and prongs resemble those of the Bf 110 nightfighter version:

Yeah, I see what you mean (though I'm more a fan of the DeHavilland Mosquito ), it's suprising the sort of things you can draw inspiration from for sci-fi tech. The Raptor also kind of reminded me of a fighter jet or caddilac with the Birok nacelles too. The fins on that are mind twistingly cool, I wish I could get on better with that ship 'cos it looks ace.
