In addition to new Borg Deepspace Encounters, you will soon experience some great changes to how Deepspace Encounters work. The KDF will not only gain access to new and additional sectors, but their patrol missions will now be spread out throughout the game zones. I’m also very happy to announce that these new KDF Deepspace patrols will be OPEN FvK PVP. So Klingons, if you want to raid those transports near Fed Space – you’re going to have to be on the lookout for Fed players who can now challenge your ability to complete these missions.

Now that should be interesting :D

    FvK = Fed versus Klingon.

Interesting, yes. But I don't think it means open PVP in sector space. I think it just means that the new "DSEs" if you want to call it that will be open to both Feds and Klingons, and will be open to PVP, similar to how Kerrat is.

    Thanks Doh! Its early :p

It doesnt sound like "Open PVP Sectors" .... more like "Sectors are open for PVP"

Yeah, Ker'rat and the Pi Canis sorties are two of my favourie things in STO, mashing them up together is super win.

A lot of people in the engineering report are against the idea of "forced PVP", but I don't think it will be forced as such, but the oppurtunity to have a human opponent rather than NPCs for a mission's good, because computers are stupid and don't learn, and I think the challenge is much more satisfying, because you didn't figure out the way to beat a bit of code, you outwitted another person who's as capable of thought and improvisation as you are. And aside from PVP, some parts of STFs are the only time I don't feel certain of victory, which kinda takes the fun out of it.

I know not everyone feels that way, but I thought that the people this seems aimed at should speak up in the face of the haters.:D

The engineering report has made me reconsider my KDF officer, that and the seeming lack of a good fleet. :(

I'm sorry, but I really don't want PVP shoved down my throat simply because I thought playing a klingon might be fun, adn the foundry will only go so far.

My guess is that only SOME missions will be open PVP.

I just wonder how they will address the issue of spawn camping in these "DSEs"

I take it, if you are in the convoy raid missions, Feds have to protect the freighters. And if protected, the freighters give the Fed player thier cargo as a gift?

What the KDF needs to gain a larger player base is more PvE. No two ways about it, plenty of people who would otherwise play KDF are not because there isn't enough content. For a healthy faction (that means more dev focus), we need a lot more PvE. And more dev focus and more players is better for both the PvE and PvP sections of our faction alike.

We (as in, I think most people here) also acknowledge that PvP in this game is.. inadequate, but has great potential.

    So we ask for:

    A) More meaningful PvP.

    B) More KDF PvE.

What we get instead is more PvP that means nothing tacked onto some PvE missions.

This will not bring any more people over to the faction, it will not make the faction healthier in any way, and it will not improve PvP. In fact, as you can see in the case of Blitzy there rethinking her choice to even roll a KDF character, it may well backfire and make us even more of a niche.

Sorry guys, but these missions will hurt the KDF.

A KDF player who wants to do these will have consequences for failure in the way of loss of XP or other rewards. The Fed ball that ganks them has put what on the line? That's right, nothing.

These missions will not make PvP any more meaningful for PvPers (and will in fact, just spread the already small PvP population even more thinly than it already is), and will just make the game more frustrating for KDF PvEers.

These should be made PvE instead.

The devs should put major effort into developing and releasing a territory control system that does not have queues, has consequences for both sides, and bonuses for the winners, including items, XP, and territory related buffs for the entire faction (we control X number of systems, so our entire faction receives a buff to X amount of STAT).

These new hybrid missions are not a solution to the PvP conundrum. These are not a solution for PvEers either. These are definitely not a solution to help the KDF as a whole.

While I agree pure pve missions would be nice, I would not look a gift-horse in the mouth. This could be epic.

The Federation player-base outnumbers us Klingons of course, but this might be a good thing. There will be lots of Federation waiting to fight us, so I would suggest going on these patrols with friends.

Indeed, these missions actually promote social game-play. It gives you a combined pve/pvp mission with which you can bring your friends, fleet or perhaps the Klingon flying next to you, into. It is both a nice way of meeting new people and seeing what mettle they have.

It is actually very,. very good! And it breathes both fresh life into the Klingon side -and- makes the Klingon side more attractive.

And it gives us something many have wanted for a long time, random encounters with Federation players.

I am not going to complain about this. :)

These better give like 3x the skillpoints and honour of a normal mission. Klingon missions in general need to give more xp with so few of them.

I don't believe (and correct me if i am wrong) that ANY details about how these missions will work have been released. As they are not even on tribble yet, how can you criticize them already?

They may be lame, they may hurt the KDF, they may be 'passable', fun to do sometimes or they may be epic and excellent additions to this game.

I see this as the Dev's once again attempting to get two(maybe three) birds with one stone, more KDF game play, more PvP and possibily some open Pvp depending on how it works.

So really.... what is the point in attacking this idea before we even know what it is?

Make of those quotes as you will. both from the Eng report.

So IIRC, these missions are currently repeatable for emblems, will the emblem reward remain the same? If so, i could pvp all day long & get emblems. I would be A very happy Klingon if so.:D

I honestly dont expect many feds to try to stop these missions after the first month or so.

But it will be fun while it lasts.

I'm going to disagree with this and instead speculate that the klinks won't try these missions after a month - there'll be too many Feds around waiting for an easy gank.

The only difference will be the VA instances - they'll probably end up like Ker'rat, minus the bugs.

I don't think this can really be counted as "KDF content". it's really more PvP content, something us PvPers are waiting for since Shanty Town (and us Space PvP since release).

Content-Wise, it's apparantly a copy of that single Pi-Canis mission where you have to disable a bunch of Federation Freighters. So you're not missing something out in this case.

I like what this represents. The mission itself may be lame or awesome, the concept may be horribly bugged or perfectly tested and executed, and this may lead to greater fleet interaction as Klingons discover the only way to avoid a 5 on 1 mauling in open PVP is to run in packs or it might just lead to 5 on 1 maulings in open PVP. So, judgment on the concept is reserved.

But I like what this represents, they're testing something completely new to the game and that kind of experimentation is always good for the health of an MMO.

I agree. I like that they are attempting it.

I have a feeling that there will be two usual scenarios for these: 1) a bunch of Klingons will show up in a group and then crush whatever Federation ships respond, or 2) a large number of Federation ships will show up and outnumber the Klingons. Unless there is a reason to keep doing these over and over, the interest in them will dwindle as there is a PvE option for Klingons in Pi Canis. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Devs do with this.

In the beginning ... I think its going to sell like hotcakes; be a feeding frenzy; hypermania!

By once the dust has settled they will find their place in the mission calendar of every player!
