Gorn Support Vessel?

I only put this here because it shows up at the end of the Raptor line in the Ship Chart.

Anyone fly this ship? Is it really very useful? It seems like it is a Science Vessel for all intents and Purposes which is a bit odd for the Gorn but I guess I can accept the thought behind it. It does look a bit on the weak side for dealing damage and I am not sure its repair drones would really come in that much handy. Thoughts?

Actually it gets buffs from the cruiser line and is the KDF's only real science vessel. Basically it's a gimped DSSV that has a repair platform that it deploys that launches repair drones that don't repair you during your fights. It's a pretty sad ship really when you compare it to the other science ships. Oh the drones will repair your photonic fleet during red alert, though the amount of healing they give is laughable.

On a side note, don't pay attention to the row the ships are on, the end of the raptor tree is the destroyer. The carriers also get buffs from the cruiser line.

Ah sad to hear... I do think the Destroyer looks wicked... Hmm... I did note the Carriers on the Cruiser line.

I would have HOPED that the Platform would at least be worthwhile but I guess in the end that ship is not worth caring about. Oh well... They should have picked a more hostile Gorn vessel.

Yeah I had hopes for it since my first KDF LG was a science officer. If only the repair drones actually helped you and didn't die if someone looks at em to hard it wouldn't be that bad. I've flown every ship on the red side and it's the only one I can't get to a point that I'm satisfied with it. If only I could steal an Intrepid-R for my science captain *sigh*.

It's not a gimped DSSV. It's a DSSV which replaces a console with a special ability.

I think it does its job as a Science Vessel pretty well. The DSSV/Varanus got some useful turn rate buffs in the past that made them more competitive with the "competing" science vessels.

SO giving up an engineering console for a useless ability is not gimping it? Also it only got the turn rate but because the Vulcan ship was originally identical to it but a lot of fed players complained it was too sluggish so they changed it...not like we didn't tell them that from the moment it launched for the KDF. Although it did have a lot more hull back then.

If the Platform actually worked then it would start becoming useful otherwise it is not really worthwhile due to its lack of fire power. This is the KDF not Starfleet. They value Pew Pew not QQ.

I've flown and supported the Varanus sins it came to the live servers. Before it was "buffed" i had no problems with its turn rate. I just delt with it and had ways to make it work for me. I'v had my say on the platform in a few other posts. It needs work. Lots of work.

I'll still be flying the "Big Green" comes what may. I love the ship. Someone at Cryptic had the right mind set when they started building it. They just were never alowed to finish it before it went live. Then it got " normilized " into a DSSV clone. :(

    Pleas Cryptic:
Can we have a working Support platforn?
Can we have a set of working Support ships?

    Thanks for your time.

Just wondering if I should get my Gorn Engineer to fly this ship, or would I be better off in the Marauder?

Looking more at pve builds than pvp. Mostly considering endgame STFs. So that they will be good, vs the Borg and the Undine ships.

I've had nothing but fun with my Varanus FSV; I've got it speced where it can survive against Borg ships. :D I have seen the repair drones repairing my ship during and after battle; the hull has to drop to 85-90% before they activate. The biggest problem is that they have the hull strength of your average shuttlecraft, so if the enemy targets them, they don't last very long, and you can't repair them. Best suggestion is to use the Scorpion fighters as an attempt to draw enemy fire from your drones.

Of course, I also have an Engineering character commanding the ship, which probably helps.

What boff abilities did you go for, especially the science based ones?

    I tried the varanus tonight

I just didn't really like it much. Parked it and re-tooled my Vuqov carrier.

It really did just come off as a weak science ship. Guess I thought actually being a science captain might make it better but it was just as bad as my fed engineer in a sci (which I tried before)
