I think often how can we drive people to play more KDF over Federation. In a previous post, I tried to see what was lacking and pve content was one b a large margin. One of my statement was and still is that content needs to come first before people pour in Qo'nos.
I have been and always be a supporter of content created by Cryptic that can carry a warrior from level 1 to cap with a minimum of gaps in the flow. But, for good or bad reasons, this content will be slow to come since they argue population is too low to justify spending labor and money on it.... Chicken and the Egg thing i suppose.
Why don't we use Foundry as a 'promotion tool' to recruit more warriors. People out there making KDF centric missions to are suitable level wise, engaging story wise and with good gameplay. I will be honest, I suck at writting stories, but I only wanted to bring that idea to attention for those more creative inclined than I am to help KDF rise in popularity.
I know it can be a double edged sword where Cryptic can say "Well, here you go, you have all that Foundry content, we don't need to make any for you anymore". But if the population is there and the real demand for content is here, it will have more weigh...
The problem is the xp rewards from foundry missions are pathetic, even with the wrapper mission.
For some reason cryptic is avoiding the problem, and giving us no avenue of communication on it.
The wrapper mission is a failed idea, it promotes short expolit missions that require little content.
they wont allow mobs to be worth much xp or skill points because they are concerned with exploits.
It's really frustrating to now have to rethink my missions and the stories I want to tell to fit into a small 5 minute long mission or it wont be played because it's not worth the time spent for the xp earned.
I love the foundry, but my motivation to even continue my series drops every day when I see that no matter how good the story and writing might be, the fact that it will never give as much xp as grinding ships in empire defense will only make using the foundry to level appeal to a small niche.
It's a hard thing to take for a faction that already is battling apathy.
I should add that my first mission red omens is a remastered episode based on red whispers my first effort.
Another goal I had was to make a series of missions to fill in that low level gap, problem is we can only re-skin fed mobs and animals, otherwise the mission difficulty gets bumped up to 16+
I've done my best with the first mission to make it interesting and not obvious what the mobs really are underneath the costumes, but I have no choice for the next part to make it a level 16+ mission because of where the story goes.
Yep, the Foundry's probably going to be the way to go. Batting around some ideas in my head, but like the OP, I'm not exactly confident in my writing ability. Playing through a few missions to get inspiration, and to try to "reverse-engineer" what people did and how. Maybe I'll put something together this weekend...

Ach, don't fall into that trap! Create what you want, and put it out there. I suspect there's enough folks out there who'd rather play a well-done hour-long mission than a five-minute farmfest.
Sounds exciting: a list of episodes is possible. How they can be rated is a touchy topic as they may be biased by me or others. Such list may move to Foundry or stay here. Thoughts?
I will check this out and definitely help promote some that's already out than starting a competing project.
I don't see it as "competing" so much as feeding into (and off of) the KEP.
I actually popped into this subforum this morning to post a link to Darren's thread (just discovered it myself), and realized it might constitute a violation of the cross-posting policy if I started a new thread here. Saw this and figured it'd be the perfect place to drop the link.
Whatever we come up with here can also be thrown into the KEP, and I figured this'd be more fertile ground for launching just such a project anyway.
But I'm babbling cuz I'm hepped up on Claritin and I don't want to do my job. Back to work...
This is a great idea! Personally I'm waiting for Season 4 to go live to make my Klingon (what with the actual tutorial coming out and everything) but I really do sympathize with the lack of content to keep players hooked. Like you said, it's a catch-22 - there aren't enough players to justify Cryptic making more content, but because Cryptic isn't making more content there aren't a lot of player....and around and around it goes!
I've been considering making Foundry episodes but have yet to come up with a good enough story I think, so that's on the backburners for now at least.
To those of you who have Foundry ideas and are worred that others won't play them because they're too long, etc. I think playingFoundry missions isn't exactly the most efficient means of getting xp anyway. I for one play the Foundry mission to see the kinds of stories people are coming up with. I play them to take part in my very own Star Trek episode (which was kind of the whole point of the Foundry). So don't be dissuaded! I can't be the only person out there playing for story rather than xp - go ahead and make your missions, people will find them!
Finally, I don't want to get in trouble for any sort of cross-posting, but has anyone seen the Nagus list? He makes and updates a list of Foundry mission for both Feds and Klingons that a outstanding by his measure (and I haven't found one on there that I didn't like). He udpated it just on the 7th, so it's not just a derelict post. I'd highly recommend checking it out and maybe if you've made some missions you want him to review and add to the list, post them there for him to check out!

BTW, others have had similar ideas - check out Darren_Kitlor's Klingon Experience Project for one.
