For some time now I've wracked my brain for ideas that could improve the KDF faction in a PVE respect. In the early days of levelling my first klingon it was actually possible to level through pvp. With the advent of the Expanses on the klingon side (Such as Azlesa expanse) people rapidly lost interest in levelling via pvp early on, for very good reason. The experience gained in pvp at the low levels paled in comparison to the pve version. I"d personally like to see the PVP experience be vastly improved from what it is now, but its not really that important to me: PvP is best at the end game anyway.
All this being said, for PVE I believe Pi Canis Sorties really were on to something excellent for the KDF side, and that is putting the player in immersive content. We the klingons are raiding the enemy front, and cutting off their ability to invade our territory while fuelling our ability to continue the war. Its a very klingon thing to do.
Then it hit me, while doing a Diplomacy mission that what the Diplomacy system really represents is the moral and ethical beliefs of the Federation. We the KDF need to have missions which promote this in the player while rewarding us for following the Klingon set of ethics and morals, which follow around a warrior's code of conduct, Honor, and Renown. While I do not have the exact words to use for this system I think that Honor or Renown are good terms, though perhaps another player or the game designers might have a better one to use for such a system.
The main purpose of this is to give us missions which represent Klingon Honor, and I will lay out an example of some missions that would earn us these points below. The rewards could be different but slightly different to what the players of the Federation have. For instance, the Final level of this 'Honor Exp' could give you an officer from the other side, perhaps a Human, Trill, Andorian or the like who has grown up with a KDF family, or who through some act of saving or Heroism has shown himself to be a prime candidate for the KDF. Other rewards could include Transwarp gates to Psi Velorum (The Romulan Front), Ganalda (Eta Eridani), Deep Space 9, etc. (As an aside I think it would be very nice if players could get a transwarp to Gamma Orionis as a reward for completing the Borg TF's, on both sides).
Now I will lay out some examples of PVE missions that they could offer the KDF players to build their honor and immerse them in the role of a captain of the klingon empire.
1. Affront to Honor. This type of mission involves a challenge made to the Captain. Whether by someone who approaches you on Qonos (or elsewhere) who smacks your captain in challenge for some percieved slight. The Captain must then accept combat and earn Renown in the defense of his honor. These types of missions should be continuable so that the player can go forth with them, even if they need to logoff or are busy at the time. Another spin on this mission could be a bridge officer that gets out of line and requires being smacked around for his impudence.
2. No Heart of Fear. Letting fear grip your heart is one of the greatest dishonors to a Klingon. In certain defense battles, the Captain would be required to defend an outpost (Ground or Space) while swarms of enemies keep coming (though don't send so many that the game lags to a slideshow). If one leaves the perimeter, one is behaving cowardly and fails this mission.
3. Heroic Epic. These are missions that have a particular historic or Epic quality. The sort of thing that loresingers will sing about in the future. The Adventure of Kor, Dax and Warf would be an example of this. Perhaps an old friend or teacher comes to you to bring you along for some great adventure to fight off the Hurq, Fek'ihri, or find an old text that legend holds was of great importance to the Klingon people.
4. Defense of a Comrade: In this style of mission, an old Comrade or Mentor or member of your House comes to you for Aid in dealing with some dishonorable though powerful enemy. Much like the Romulan problem in the first good storyline on the Klingon side of the game. In fact I would offer that the 'House Always Wins' arc should garner this sort of 'Renown/Heroism' points by nature of what it is. There are many spins on this one.
(I know I had some more ideas for these types of missions, but I am not remembering them all now. If anyone has further ideas for these specific types of missions please feel free to add them. I posted these ideas because I've been bandying them on Ventrilo a while, and friends in and out of fleet have been telling me I should post about this.)
Nicely nicely, DodgeHopper. Are you or have you ever been a game developer? Cause you seem to almost think like one. That system would so much make sense. I like sense, cause we are not allowed to use it at work.
Kudos Dodge, I just hope the right ears listen to you  ...... ......:D
I have considered these types of plots for foundry missions, but I do think it would be excellent if they could work these into the KDF story arcs that are available and make a good analogous but different style to the Diplomacy system.
The ideas are excellent, and the KDF side definitely needs more expansive content. Their society is rich in possibilities, but very little has been explored.
Well done, Dodge.
There are several "Diplomtic" type missions on Fed side that could easily be converted to something appropriate for KDF side.
For instance, "Aid the Planet" could quite easlily be modified to things like "Supply Weapon Caches". Just supplying shield generators is well within the Honor codes of a Klingon.
Locating and Scanning ships also fits right in with the Klingon ethics...invesitgating damaged/detroyed vessels to find that raiders are inflitrating Klingon space is certainly within their ideas of Honor and Glory.
The name just hit me: GLORY. This should be called Klingon Glory. I somehow think that has a better ring to it than any of the names I've used before. Glory and Honor perhaps. What do you guys think?

Sounds good to me...try to get them to change it, although it would pretty much be the same thing that we have already in-game...Without something to actually do w/ glory and honor, or to have some tangible rewards, it isn't really worth the trouble....

The Klingons really need a system to parallel the Feds Diplomacy and this sounds perfect.
Get to work on this immediately, devs. This has win written all over it.

I like that idea.
Yes! Qapla'! Fortune and Glory!
