Some do - alot don't.
Most will not give up the concept that PvP is some hugely secretive event that requires months of prep time and pratice to get skilled at, but some are able to let go this belief and try it for the fun, get thier "hard Knocks" and learn that PvP is not some mysteriuos secret society with strange rituals and customs.
I seen a few come in and believe the former, drop those predijuces and then enjoy themselves after a short time of learning.
Speaking strictly from my own perceptions, learning from having to "take one's lumps" is something the present society (in my country anyways) has forgotten how to do. Everyone seems to want to be the master crafted blade without having to be an apprentice first and survive learning the basics.
So. I was doing some C&H yday, along with some other LF.. I was in my healingcruiser.
At one point I said something.. Maybe "Hmm maybe we should start capping now, this fight is dragging out" when the score were around 200-1200
Some guy responds in Zone.
Him : You shouldnt talk, you have the lowest damage
Next time pick one of your teammates in an Escort. Heal just him constantly and let the Escort do your talking for you. The "some guy" may change his position in the conversation after your mediator "talks" abit to him.
C&H usually (not always) degenerates into just another variant on arena, with everyone way up on the ceiling killing each other. If it becomes obvious that no one cares about capping, I just join in on the fun.

Well.. In the end.. Win or lose doesnt matter.. I dont really care if someone on the other team got 33 merits to my 25.. And 10-20k EC difference is irrelevant.
With no drawback, and given the fact that killing people is a lot more fun than capping... Is it really so strange that people fight?

Hey that is what SoS makes me do. I am the impromptu mediator when it comes difference of opinions on how my healer plays. The funny part is I when mediate the other guy usually loses, for some reason.

True.
There is no true in-game reward for winning anything. But there is certainly satisfaction in seeing another enemies shield or hull drop and see him explode, or tanking 3 attackers for an indefinite amount of time.
But I am still unsatisfied overall. I am trying to do more capping. Even though capping itself is usually boring, I think some matches just take to long. There is still a sense of accomplishment in finishing any type of mission, and endless PewPew doesn't do it.

Would help if there actually were a bonus for the "Hold" part of C&H.. Most people are content to just cap and run away if anything red approaches.
I always go into C&H with the best intentions... But after sitting 10 seconds at a spawnpoint doing nothing, my resolution breaks and I run off to shoot something!
There is no fun in playing the bait for cloaked enemy ships, but it's a lot of fun to BE the cloaked ship...
Playing C&H like it was ment to be done is a way to have as little fun as possible, for no reason whatsoever
It is kinda a reversal of the problem in Ker'rat, and kinda the same.
In Ker'rat, people complain because they get hunted down by other players. They just want to do the objective.
But that's boring to some players - or even impossible (Few KDF players against many Feds?).
The map objectives and the reward scheme need to be overhauled - and the mechanics itself possibly as well.
Ker'rat:
There needs to be a wrapper mission that gives rewards for destroying other ships.
Capture & Hold:
There needs to be a wrapper mission for rewarding capturing.
The mechanic of capping needs an overhaul. It must be something more active. Maybe it needs to be faster.
AS people take so much pride in the numbers o the scoreboard, capping needs to be displayed there as well. And maybe damage and healing only is counted if you are within 10 km of a cap point.

I agree with all this, though my Ker'rat experience is limited to only two times so far.
As to CnH, the best way to play it is half cap/holds the points and the other half ties up the enemy in a needless blood bath. Switch out the halves as the team sees fit to relieve any boredom.

Nice to see you in Kerrat the other day Roach. I was quite surprised, shocked even..lol
You know you've played too much STO when you find yourself watching PvP videos on youtube.
You know you've played WAY too much STO when you try to change the camera angle on said video by dragging with the mouse button, and wondering why it isn't working...

It's not my fault there is a bullseye painted on your hull and it attracts torps.:D
In Ker'rat we all die at some point, some just more often than others.:p
And the torps do little if any dmg. secondly it takes alotta work to get a bull-eye painted on your hull that every player in STO wants to fight you to make a name for themselves.. maybe on day you can reach my status

Maybe its because its so fun to hear the complaining afterwards, its certainly not because it is difficult or challenging
So, LF were doing VA Cure and KA back to back.. And on the last phase of KA (the space part where you have to take out the Borgified Scimitar).
Entire fight we had been joking around and basically played the STFs extremely casual.. I mean.. We just run through the corridors and go all.. "Woops, forgot all about this patrol group, and now we agroed those two nodegroups - Dang, thats a LOT of Borg!"
Anyways, in the middle of the spacebattle (where Donatra runs away and spawn a bunch of probes) someone in the group (Ivan I believe) typed this in groupchat

Is this not exactly that what c&h does mean?
Capture the hull of ur enemy and mount it on the the wall of ur readyroom and try to hold urs as long as u can?

LOL
I did the same!:D Glad I'm not alone anymore.
I've even tried it on screenshots. God I feel dumb sometimes...
It's done pure on instinct,no thought required.......it serves us well in PvP.
YOU are Leroy Jenkins?!?!?!?
