In Galactrix's UGC mission "Syndicate Extraction" (which is now on Holodeck - well done!), you run around Pax's station trying to find the Orion deep cover agent and while you're running around you can talk to various people on the station. They all have the yellow "Contact" icon hovering above their heads and an interact button "Talk to xxxxx" appears when you run near them. BUT it is not a mission objective to talk to any of them.
How do you do this?
I have added an NPC contact to one of my maps and typed a message into the contact's 'Default text' box, but when I test the mission she doesn't have the icon hovering above her and no interact appears to talk to her when I get close to her.
How can I do it without adding a "Talk to contact" mission objective?
Add the text to the NPC's "Default text" editbox. When you walk close and click on the "Talk to ..." they will say their default text to you all the time.
Unless, you add a mission specific interaction to them. During that, they will say the mission specific content, then go back to their default text.
Also you can temporarily disable their default text with a trick. NPC's won't talk if your current story action is a "Complete all" set. Which means at least 2 actions have to be completed to continue the story.
In my mission, The Demon encounter, I used this to hold back info. The NPCs there won't talk to you until you help them first.
Ahhhhh - THANK YOU! That explains it! I couldn't understand why the NPC contact wasn't talking, but it's because I have a "complete all" going on at the same time.
Thanks again. Back to the Foundry to have a tinker...
