I would absolutely love if when assigining dialogue to BO's we could assign by species, rather than class. I love the way foundry authors give my BO's more 'personality' than standard cryptic missions, but there are occasions when their dialogue is not species appropriate.
It's not very often it actually matters so much which class, but I'd love to have any dialogue with 'logical' in it asisgned to a vulcan etc etc, nattering about profit to a FErengi. A natural extension of this is you could then do BO missions on foundry - eg your Vulcan officer needs to get home for Ponn Farr (bad example I know but u get the idea) with disclaimer on the mission description that mission best played if you have a Vulcan BO/Andorian BO/whatever and include them on the away team.
There are only a finite amount of BOFFs - excluding aliens. I would think except for players who go for all one species most fed players have a Vulcan, andorian and human among their crew. One of my toons has a tellereite, another a Klingon.
You'd put Vulcan or whatever needed in your mission description but the options are not so vast as to render this undoable or unplayable by the vast majority

As for what you propose I think it would be overly complex, every race would have to have a response to EVERY situation. Human, Pakled, Andorian, Trill, JOINED Trill......ad nauseum.
I generally stick to the professions, one could believe that the Tac Officer is concerned about security and weapons. Your Sci officer pratters on about sensor scan or the properties of some unknown substance, your Eng BO, while trying to keep the bolts in the bulkheads intact tells you, "I'm giving you all she's got, [Rank]". You could play the profession to your advantage instead.
Or, you could use the premise which Andreia from StarbaseUGC had, which was. She built you a group of advisors that would chime in with their opinions and advice. Your BO's then just because your pets, ahem, personal security force. A very interesting idea.
Give Hitman and Dark Energy by Ashter a try on Tribble. To see concept this in action.
Also writing species specific dialog would also complicate and add extra work for the UGC author's who already spend hours researching for dialogs to make sure its true to trek, as they would have to research each species and find out how they spoke and in what manner, just to get it correct (which is what Highbone was hitting upon). You would have to also consider if he character was Tactical, Science or engineering still and write the dialog specific to species and its proffession as well. So no it wouldn't be as simple as [vulcan] tagging. And yes most have vulcan Bo's, but what happens if the vulcan BO is a science guy instead of tatical, and the dialog is based on the BO being a vulcan tatical officer? I'll tell you what will happen, you'll end up with a Ferengi Tactical officer talking like a Vulcan or a vulcan science officer talking like they are the tactical officer. Which although would be great for a Star trek plot involving the crew receiving each others personalities due to a unseen alien with a pyshic ability, it would not be much use for general missions. Keeping the dialog generic to proffessions is the best way to go for now.
Andreia's approach is great and a unique approach for the occasional missions, but most people spend alot of time on their bridge officer's and want to see them being part of the majority of missions. So being mission authors, we have a choice. Do we limit our missions to people with specific bridge officers in specific proffessions i.e Tactical vulcan officers, or create generic missions for anyone regardless of what species their officers are? I know what i would choose and that would be the latter. To limit my mission to those with a specific species as their tatical officers would be contrary to what misson authors in general are trying to achieve, which is to have their mission played and enjoyed by everyone,
Just pick maybe a dozen different traits like this and set them up as tags for both players and developers to use.
The core dialogue remains intact but you get the option for an add-on bit of dialogue if a BO gets tagged by the player with a certain personality type. (And maybe extra mission options for some missions down the road.)

Thoughts?

At this momet ths idea is pointless. Maybe when we'll have our officer rooster in the game, where you could adjust your 1st officer, helmsman, 1st science officer, etc., maybe then the dev's could add personality traits.

Hey, WTF, where is my Officer Rooster@!!!!!!!!@!@!@!@!@!
I Agree with [boffraceE] [boffraceT] [boffraceS], a race Eng Tac Sci tag option should be added, heck [playerrace] should be an great addition, cept for people that chose Alien....

i.e. if there's a Vulcan in your group, use:
[Vulcan]Ah, your pointy-eared friend isn't a friend of mine. Attack![/Vulcan]

I kinda like the idea of just making it a tag which only displays when that tag is present on the officer.
Although I'd suggest branching this out further, slightly towards my old Bridge Officer Story Arc concept.
Instead of making it species specific, make it personality trait specific.
