It really sort of depends. Since EC can't buy you very good equipment I find the normal missions not be as overall rewarding as either doing PvP or the PvE Star Clusters. In both of those the XP rewards are decent (probably a little better in PvE right now) but you also get Medals/Badges which are a better source of gear in the long run.
I've leveled 4 toons to Lt. Gen on the KDF side, the last two were only on cluster missions, I didn't even do the story missions. I'd guess it took me ~36 hours of game play and that's a high estimate.
uh wow??????????? 36 hours? thats all. thats great!
you mean actually doing the missions, you exluded going back to base to upgrade/rearm etc as you progressed right?
damn thats good tho... i hate just leveling
why do you only get 100 points or so for missions? on the fed side you get like 300 in the beginning and it goes up to like 567...
so you recommend levelling in an escort regardless if i spec out in the end because its blows npcs fast.
what recommendations can you make for the ground team? and which tac skills for my char to level for ground pvp?
Escort is a good ship, depends on your character though, I mean if you are running a sci character the BoP can be a great option too. Ground is going to be slow regardless. From Lt. to Cmdr I just skip ground missions unless they are something like "kill the tribbles" the xp is not worth the time. After Cmdr ground can speed up some though.
I don't like Exploration content. It contains ground stuff.
Badges at lower tiers are basically worthless, you don't need uncommon gear if all you want to get is to the endgame.
Pi Canis Sorties -> Eta Eridani Dailies -> Orrelius Dailies. All while queued up for PvP. If you still have time each day after that, go to an exploration sector block.
Make sure to grab all anomalies you can, and you should later have some decent anomalies to get some crafting done. Or, if you're too lazy for that, you can sell your anomalies on the Exchange.
Also every time you rank there should be an Empire defense mission (i.e. Empire Defense vs. Feds for T1 and Romulans for T2). Do that very first mission because it will almost always be worth an entire lvl.
To each his own, but it is simple enough to warp out of ground maps.
True, but if I can avoid the Exploration content entirely, I don't need to needlessly go to two extra screens half the time.
In theory, I'd like Exploration Content, but ... man, the STO writer(s) really overdid it with the Klingon Tribble hatred. And that no one was able to catch stuff like Borgs looking for artifacts of their 3rd dynasty. The Devs really must have been under a lot of time pressure when they allowed that to go through.
Exploration and Ground Combat revamp can't come soon enough.
There is no such thing as over doing Klingon tribble hatre I still think we need an accolade for killing four billion tribbles.
I am playing a proud Klingon Warrior of an old house, attempting to restore it to its former glory. He does not feel particularly glorious for killing this annoying pest.
Alternatively, I play an Orion Scientist that lost her family and rank in one of the many internal power struggles of the Orion syndicate and Tribbles cute, comforting pets, but not particularly interesting. In the time she spent dealing with local infestations, she could have developed either a retrovirus altering the Tribbles to be pleasant for Klingons or wipe them out. Not that she would, there are still better things to do...

Ya dang skippy, I ought to have an accolade for my KDF toons, seeing that all 3 were leveled through the use of cluster missions which we had many, many, many tribble slaughters and enemy confrontations...lol.
I also found that leveling in groups of 2 or 3...3 is the maximum number, but having 2-3 people in a group, 2 being max-level, doing space explore cluster missions net you a great deal of points for leveling allowing for faster leveling...I was able to gain a level every 45 mins to 1 hour that way....Yea...I'm not the patient type..heheheh...If you are wondering why I use space explores, or why I would only do space explores (enemy confrontations) it is because of the bigger xp. And if you are wondering how one gets those enemy confrontations so frequently, It's a trade secret...lol...well, not really, anybody that has leveled a Klink through this manner can tell you, but pm me if you need to know more.
PvP will level you faster than anything else as Klingon, but the waiting in PvP qeues can be hard to deal with sometimes. And PvP at the lower ranks is sometimes impossible to get.
The missions that give the most points per single mission are the Featured Episodes. They are also nice since they all have decent rewards. And if you repeat them after you level, the gear will also go up to your level when you claim your reward.
The one story arc series the Klingons have also gives good points, but not all the rewards items will increase in level as you do. Only the remastered one in that series will the gear go up in lvl.
The exploration missions don't give a lot of points, but, the badges and Marks you eran from them can come in handy for better gear and the data samples you find there will help you to craft even better gear.
Notice the Featured series give no data samples at all, nor do any other Klingon missions outside of the Exploration missions.
1.) Goto your brige and pickup missions that give great point-rewards.
2.) Always run on elite
3.) In Nebula's only accept space missions as they give the greatest points.
4.) PvP
5.) War Zones 3/3 are great
6.) Remember that mission rewards demish over time.
7.) The Romulan Episode is great for fast rewards.
8.) Ask for help from someone higher.
9.) Purchase the XP boost (20 percent increase in the amount of skill points and bridge officer skill points gained during play for a period of eight hours.)
The LT Antoine missions are the fastest route, not fun at all but team up with an LTG. Cold Comfort and Spin the Wheel are the two fastest featured missions. Go to your bridge and grab every replay and then play every mission you can but do NOT turn them in. Get the 1 hour XP boost, activate it, and then cash them in.
I don't even waste my time on good weapons or gear until MG/LTG. You can easily get by with dropped items, mission rewards, or left overs on the exchange. I do recommend hauling in as many data samples as you can.
With regards to gear, I mail all my samples to my crafter, and so far both my KDF toons have enjoyed to whack gear mostly for free throughout their careers.

Good point. All of my toons are full crafters, one of each profession so when the planned change of craftable items hits I will have a sci, eng, and tac ready.
And after that, Cold Comfort. Once both of those are done, you should have roughly 10 minutes left til they come off cooldown so I usually fill that gap doing dailies in those 2 sector blocks.
You can very easily gain a level an hour with minimal effort and have an easy 1 million in EC by level cap.

Hell Yes! One at ever million killed at least.

decent xp...it sounds ok, but you can get more.
Just space missions or including ground?
