I do not get a picture when I logout/login.. What am I doing wrong?

I cannot find anywhere that explains BASIC things, like how you fire a bow and arrow without running to the enemy and getting snotted.. Or how to get the chat and Ongoing events (Got 12 gold etc) to stop obscuring each other by printing in same spot Can you help?b:cry
