No, it's not that's simple. There are only certain in-game pets non-Venomancers can use. These pets are only for looks and do not attack. So only Venomancers can have Golems as pets, but anyone can have, say, a bunny. Assuming you can find one for purchase.

I don't think it works the same way as the idea of shapeshifting in the west. More like a spirit animal form than a werecreature, I think.

I thought it was funny that they were designated East and West when they're all located in the same spot.

Unless this changed from CB, you have to complete the bank quests before you apply the Cash Shop items, as the stones overwrote the quests. The Dragon Quest NPCs are in your starting area near your town.
