  • Are you using the correct NPC? You can't decompose weapons at the tailor, and you can't decompose armor at the blacksmith, and so on. Also, most quest rewards cannot be decomposed, and will say so in the item description, but I'm guessing that's not the issue if you're using NPC gear.
