There is a tamable catapod, if I remember correctly it's around Antique Gate. Darkbreed Premier is tamable if I remember correctly and they look pretty much like the untamable ones, which is why you're confused.

Did you order it to follow you? On the pet order panel, the collar icon means halt and the paw icon means follow. Did it get stuck? Petite Sawfly usually get stuck in the terrain while fighting ground monsters. What's its loyalty?

There's something about those skills: Bramble Guard does not reduce damage, it just damage the attacker based on a % the attacker do on you, so it's not a defence. From the skill database, Bramble Hood is the one that reduce damage you take, but it last only 15 secs with 30 secs cool down and require 2 sparks, so I think…
