The girl is right about the numerical part and to clear the misunderstandings, Stone barrier multiplies the GEAR P.def values, not your BASE P.def. Obviously even pure mag Wizzies on lv100 need at least 54STR which grant some BASE P.def, but not GEAR P.def. That's the very reason why your 6k base p.def wont boost to 15k.
