Do you guys (as mods) have any way to contact gm's & such when stuff like this happens (current dw situation), or are you left in the dark to wait just like the rest of us? b:surrender

Yes, and they've been contacted already as stated in the thread about DW's server issues.
I've merged the threads and will go poke a GM about this.

All we can do now is play the waiting game. b:surrender

For things like that, it helps to just scroll down looking for red or green borders around the avatars, as nobody else shares those borders. Alternatively you can just memorize the CM's and main GM's posting names, and use the active forum mod list to just search from responses from particular people. The search function is useful when you're looking for a reply from a particular poster in general, not just when you're looking for cms/gm responses. When you click on a particular thread, just check the top right corner and hit "search this thread" and type in a GM name such as Surtr, DefenderofDreams, etc. Surtr and DOD are the current two gms who post the most often, just FYI. DOD is the acting co-community manager (not perma) and Surtr has been helping with the quality corner/maintenance threads.

To be fair Venus i wish you could sticky Posts in a Post, I should suggest that one ay... That way when important posts are made you can always see them up the top regardless where they are in the thread. Could work.

There really should be a list of all the gms and mods

and a way to quickly see all the gm and mod posts in a forum. like riot does. you can just click a special riot icon to jump to the next post in that thread made by a employee.

I actually like this idea, then people wouldn't be complaining that nobody didn't respond in a 500+ page thread, when in reality they actually did lol. Whether or not there's a way to do that within the forums is another story.

As for a list of mods/gm's, there's already a list of mods, but we probably wouldn't get a list of GM's until we get a permanent CM.

When it comes to lists there's this for mods... which is visible from the forum's index page. So people who are new to forums have an easy view of it and those who know how forums work... really don't have much of an excuse.

GMs are slightly trickier... but only for those who are new to forums in general. The red bordered avatar, GM label in said avatars, red name, and such are kinda dead giveaways for them... though figuring out which ones are active is another story.

As for that finding most recent staff post thing, that'd be pretty nice but it'd require some software modification to work. And considering our forums are watered down as is (a whole LOT of features that vBulletin normally offers aren't available here and it's an extremely out-of-date version anyways) I wouldn't hold my breath for it happening... or even being utilized by people who don't bother checking the first posts in threads for the updates mods and GMs normally edit into them even as people complain about a lack of Mod/GM response to a thread. x_X

php and vbulletins forum should have add-ons like that available.
Especially if the forums are hosted on the pwi's website. (this forum is vbulletin)
only hassle for pwi would be that they would have to test it to see if it opens any loopholes for security..... yeah

It's really hard to break forum add-ons that work properly when unchanged.

As in, you can literally copy/paste code (depending on forum and add-on type) and have zero issues whatsoever.

Considering the stuff we lack that I complain to you guys about all the time, though, I wouldn't get my hopes up. b:chuckle

    2+x=4

    Well 2+(8-4)=4

No, just use 4, why do you have to put in that extra stuff?

    Because it looks cool.

    Fine then: 2+(1/0)=4

    Divide by zero error.

    You broke it.

There isn't a way to sticky posts within a thread. Sometimes we edit the first post during server downtime or with major issues in a really long thread to add quotes. But everyone pretty much ignores it. :\ And certain threads the GMs mostly decide how the updates will go, and we just try to keep the thread clear of major rule violations.

noone has the time or wants to go through a 500 post thread to get an answer.

most people just check the first 1 or 2 pages and skip to the last page.

this is why everything ever said is an issue and why i feel the need to make new threads even if unessecary because i know that if i post it in a former made thread it will go unnoticed and burried in the millions of qq or random posts.

most people just check the first 1 or 2 pages and skip to the last page.
And the problem with this is... for any major threads that get to that length? GMs and mods tend to update the first post as new information becomes available. People simply choose not to read said post or the updates and... there's not much we can do about that. If they don't take the time to even read the first post before ranting about lack of communication or the like, they certainly wouldn't bother learning about some new function if it were added.
this is why everything ever said is an issue and why i feel the need to make new threads even if unessecary because i know that if i post it in a former made thread it will go unnoticed and burried in the millions of qq or random posts.
If everyone shared that mindset then the threads would be buried in the same thing... just with threads instead of posts. At least with one thread people can check the one thing, look at the first post for updates, and then post their mind. Heck, they can also read through the thread if inclined and have a much easier time than if there were 50 different threads on the same subject where most of them were just repeating the same thing.

As those who survived the bot Armageddon can verify, a bunch of posts in a single thread that gets updated is VASTLY easier to deal with than a flood of threads cluttering everywhere and spreading out whatever needs to be known.
