PWI Will not download and install properly, please help. (pictures included)

Perfect World International (Sirens of War) will not download and/or install properly. Previously, PWI worked fine, and I downloaded it with no problems whatsoever. However, since the Sirens of War update, PWI has not worked. It would not update, the patches wouldn't work, and no matter what I did it just froze on "preparing to update." I uninstalled all PWI-related files from my computer and deleted them, then tried to re-install the game. It works fine up until I open the actual installer, which gives me error messages such as "Data Pack (data1.pck) broken. Please re-download install files." and "Failed to uncompress zip data!" My antivirus is not affecting it at all.

Not only am I having the same problem, but so are three of my friends who are also trying to download the game at the same time.
This is going to be my 5th time trying to download it (trying via torrent now) and I've been getting the same issue.
On a side note - both me and one of my friends froze at 95% and had to pause/resume the download for it to continue.
We've also had issues with the download randomly closing itself half way through. Clearly there's an issue with the downloader.0 -

Hello I just got a new laptop yesterday. I have the same issues. I have dl the game 3 times and uninstalled it each time to try again. It says the data pack 1 is broken . I don't know if it helps but this computer has the new windows 8 I switched the mode to 7 but still that dident change anything. Not super smart about computers so any help would be nice0

In the meanwhile you should try downloading by torrent :
1. Download and install torrent software.
2. Once the download is finished, go to the directory your completed downloads are in and you will see a file named "PWI_EN_v699_Installer.rar".

If you right-click on the file, there should be an option to "Extract to 'PWI_EN_v699_Installer\'". Click that and it will unpack the file into a directory with the same name as the file.
3. Temporarily disable the active scan for your antivirus software.
4. Once the file is done unpacking, navigate to that folder. ( It should be "Downloads\PWI_EN_v699_Installer".
5. In this folder there is a file called "install.exe". Run it. (If you have Vista or newer, right-click and choose "Run as Administrator.
6. Follow the directions to install the client.
7. After the client is done installing, add the directory where it installed to the exceptions list for your antivirus software. (The default folder location is "C:\Perfect World Entertainment\Perfect World International")
8. Launch the client using the icon that was placed on your desktop during the install and let it update.
8b. Launch the client and then close it before it updates, and then download the manual patches and install them. (Manual method is about 80% faster than automatic.)

Okay I'm having this same issue. Tried downloading the official thing from the site, it got to 50 percent and just closed itself.... twice. took 2-3 hours to even get that far ONCE. so I used DAP and downloaded it. Somehow I got it open, don't ask me how, because upon trying to do it again, I cant figure it out. I have a torrent file. cant unzip cuz is just torrent. but at some point I did get the actual installer. go to install.. data pack 1 broken. lovely. 8 hrs later im to the point of being frustrated to tears and I just want to PLAY! I am now trying to DL with Utorrent, but it says it has 7 hrs left... -_- I still have the one file on my compy that I can run installer with and get the data pack 1 broken message with. Any way I can fix this without having to wait for my utorrent dl? I really don't want to wait all this time and get another data pack broken **** message. Any help greatly appreciated. oh and im using windows 8 if that matters.0

Only thing i noticed was that you might need to update your intel graphics driver. This is low priority now.
And with the download, try the torrent method. This has proved to be the best for everyone (even tho it takes a while) and it is more reliable than the pando downloader.
When installing, disable your antivirus. it might interfere with the install.
Tell me how it goes please , ill be watching the thread.

OK, first off, I'd like to congratulate the OP for an epic first post on your issue. Let's see what I can do to help.
Benae, the first thing I noticed looking at your dxdiag is the driver dates. You should check to see if there are new drivers for the audio chipset. (Not that it's related to your current issue, but could stem to other issues.) On the same note, you do have ffdshow installed, which with some setting configurations, really screws with the client. It's fine with default settings, or if you exclude the client from it's monitored processes.
Now, onto the heart of the issue....
You have Norton 360
That's your crutch.
Not only is Norton one of the worst programs because of how it overrides the OS and hogs the resources, but it is one of the primary causes for in-game lag on high-end systems.
You absolutely must completely disable it before even attempting to download and install the client. There are some links to instructions specific to that program on the download page for a good reason.
Even after the client is successfully installed, you must completely exclude the entire client directory from all of Nortons antivirus and firewall scans. I've seen traceroutes with a ping better than 40ms turn to an average of 5k in-game ping simply because of Norton360.
Additionally, you have Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, AND Microsoft Defender running. Pick one and shut the other two down. It's fine having one running and constantly scanning your system, but to have three going is asking for trouble. I personally use Malwarebytes and Spybot, but only malwarebytes remain actively scanning. I just do periodic manual scans with Spybot. Microsoft defender is **** and should be completely disabled if you have any other anti-malware software installed.
Aside from the above, all you've got is the usual bloatware, and half of it's likely needed by your tablet to run. (Except Photoshop)
Oh, and disable the scan for whichever one you want to keep active while you are downloading and installing the client.
Give that a shot and let us know how it goes.
For everyone else with a similar issue, it is most likely your antivirus software preventing the download. It's either interfering with the files themselves as they come down, or it's preventing Pando from working as it should. (Not that I have much hope in Pando working properly in the first place.)

9. Launch the client using the icon that was placed on your desktop during the install and let it update.
9b. Launch the client and then close it before it updates, and then download the manual patches needed to bring the client up to date and install them. (Manual method is about 80% faster than automatic.)
10. Play

I wanted to reinstall Windows 7 for a while anyway, and now seemed like a good time to do it. So I've completely reinstalled... and decided that the first things I would do would be to redownload both PWI and Kaspersky.
Windows is on default settings.
I haven't yet activated Kaspersky, so I can't imagine that it is doing anything....
I'm getting the exact same (data pack 1 broken) problem from the direct download on site still (I've installed via that method with this same computer at least 3-4 times and never had that problem before).

I don't get it. when I first started playing PWI I never had this much difficulty trying to install it. sure it might take a day or so to download and install but it never required this much work to get it operational. then again I haven't played since Genesis so obviously the game must have advanced beyond my understanding.
heck I don't know anything about this computer. it was a Display computer from wall-mart that I got really cheap.
fehh maybe I've just done gone senile in my old age.
It plays DC Universe just fine but i guess it can't handle the raw ausome power that is PWI. and that really sucks.0 -
