Actually that is not true. The TOS does not protect them if the material in chat is deemed pornographic, and considering some of the things people talk about in WC a person could argue that it is.

Think of like the movie rating system. TOS with protect up to rated R or maybe even NC-17, but once it hits that X rating not any longer.That's why some site you go to have that warning pop up asking if you are 18 and want to proceed. If a site doesn't have that and the government thinks they should they will get one hell of a fine and possible shut down.

Since this site allows minors to access it they are legally required to make sure that sort of content is not on the site. We recently had this issue on an art site I post my stories on. Somebody must have reported them because the mods there went totally crazy and started removing items in force. It went on for about a month before things returned to normal. Many of the items they removed should not have been, but because of a few people who chose to post items they shouldn't, others were punished.

The same thing could very well happen here. People say they don't want chat to be censored but if people don't start obeying the rules that is exactly what will happen. Right now we have limited censorship in chat on the grounds people can be responsible, if they can't, that's when it ends.

I realized a long time ago that PWE could care less about the things that go on in the game unless they are boutique items. The fact that WC is pornographic is annoying but is something that we have to put up with if we like playing the game.

btw ... GM = Great Myth No one who works for PWE actually plays the game. The moderators do but they are unpaid volunteers who are trying to help the rest of us.

Currently on Sanctuary someone has acquired teles and has spent the last 20 minutes talking about 9 inches and having sex with mothers. This is sad....

Coming from a 3rd world country when I was growing up I was going out and playing sports rather than spending time on a computer.. I did not even know how to operate a computer till like 16 or something.. If parents are letting kids play an online game well what do you expect? This is internet you cannot change anything, this topic as a whole is useless tbh..

The only person who can be blamed for kids seeing **** on internet is not the one who does it but the parents who allow it or don't monitor it..

And btw to that person who said people who said ""kids see it all over the net anyways" are the ppl that dont care" if you step out of pwi you will find there are far bigger problems kids face than seeing something on internet..

EDIT: Oh btw just wanted to add I don't approve it if someone annoys me I just blacklist them or turn chat off.. So, at end of the day its upto the person reading it whether they want to read it or not.. If I dont like anything it's not like i am going to travel half the way around the world to beat up the guy.. I can simply choose not to read it.

It is a bad thing the content in world chat, but its true there are far worse problems for kids that world chat on an MMO.

Just look at the majority of celebrities, sportsmen and rich people who have no respect for anyone and just do what they want, then the press start butting in, causing obscene scandals by a sports player, or just look at many western songs that sing of sex and drugs.

Those are far worse influences. The problem is the society, as much as the idiots who do this on WC.

But if American (yes, i rarely see other countries have groups that kick this much of a fuss over it, even in britain) interest groups kick up a fuss and direct all their political motives at pwi, using 'think of the kids' then that good intention is misused for a political agenda. Innocent people will lose out.

Simply because the good old US government will cook up another Anti-internet Law. just like SOPA and PIPA. Remember those? This time using kids as an excuse.

For that, the entire gaming industry will suffer as much as the majority of decent players from accross the world. Not just America.

the Terms of Service may protect them, but not enough if a activist group campaigns or someone important throws a fuss.

Its a viscious cycle.

Thinking about the kids is a good thing, i even applaud the thought and agree with it, but that too must have its limitations. It's up to the PARENTS to deal with this. Not PWI, nor the government/ FBI/ police authorities (im not US, so i don't know which one would deal with this) unless something serious and criminal is involved.

Otherwise, the cycle will never end.

Actually, I think PWI should be purely an adult game. It might solve a few problems and just let us be on our way enjoying the game.

By the way. Every online game that has multiplayer and is rated for content, always has this "*this game is not rated for multiplayer content" or some such. Simply because you can't trust all people to be good role models. The world is simply not like that, I discovered that the hard way.

You know none of the above would NEVER happen.

You are basically thinking emotionally and theoretically, practically all you can do is to

1. not say stuff yourself.
2. Whisper person saying **** to stop it (though most likely they'll laugh at you, but still worth a try).
3. Send a ticket everytime you think something inappropriate is being said and hope GMs take action.

These are the 3 things which you can do.. So, think practially this is not real world you cannot force someone sitting 10,000 miles away to do something which is right if they don't want to.

Ohh and btw this is just one of the thousands of MMO's out there.

It's definitely true it wouldn't happen. Though less kids would mean a significant amount of idiots following idiots gone. and more people who know how to play the game, but that's another debate.

I'll admit. I see a guy who's not good a his class. When i help, i get to small talk and ask their age, they say 12. I facepalm.

But when i meet a really skilled kid 12-14. It baffles me at how skilled they are. I am also impressed by their maturity. So still, age doesnt grant maturity.

That's not the problem. The kid's haven't learned it from adults, they learn it from older kids, then it spreads to the younger kids. If you have ever been on voice chat in xbox or ps3 games you can hear the kids spouting all these horrible things. Sometimes older kids, but often younger kids. They talk about size and exploits which could not possibly be true. I've heard kids admitting to be 6 years old on violent ps3 games saying these things, and also horribly degrading things to me. If these kids were of an older age I would report them for sexual harrasment. Yes i know any parent who lets their kid do this is a horrible parent, but these poorly raised kids influence other kids, and the other kids want to do what the poorly raised kids get to do. The thing is though, the parents often have no clue the language these kids learn. Also these kids get no punishment, and they have learned it to be safe. If the parents wont punish them, then the companies that help spread this horrible situation should teach the kids it is wrong by showing them that it is punishable by banning them. Parents will often feign ignorance, pretending that the issue's don't exist, so help needs to come from elsewhere.

b:angry just to say two things:

1. scammers don't get perma banned (even with youtube clip - if you know who i mean) cuz they are cash-shoppers. b:victory

2. people who use bad language on wc get perma ban cuz they are not cash-shoppers. b:shutup

I for one am not only a parent, but a grandparent. I think it is disgusting that these kids or immature adults are allowed to get away with the kind of filth that they do. I am not asking the government to step in or anything to that effect that some have mentioned. I do however think that if we allow this to continue and don't do something to put a stop to it, then we are just part of the problem itself. I know I have pm some of these people and on occasion went to wc myself. I have asked them to take it to pms or to tone things down as the majority of us really wouldn't want to hear that kind of trashy filth. More of us actual adults need to take a stand on this issue. I also agree that a longer black list would be nice, but again, that just covers up the problem and does nothing to fix it. We hardly ever see the gm's on. I think more moderators on the game would be a good thing. If we had more people to stand up to these immature adults and kids, we could put a stop to it if not, cut it down alot. Enough of them get spammed or made to feel like less than and they will at least think twice before spewing that **** in world chat, but as long as we turn the other way and don't say anything, it will continue to get worse. Those are my thoughts and opinions.

This actually sounds like a neat idea, if theres no moderators, ask to take it to pm, if that fails, blue wall the pervs with trolling until they get stop or get driven away from the game. Sounds like an internet protest to me, might do good.

if they are kids, prepare fotr WC Drama though.
