Adult Content in WC Approve or Disaprove?

I have been wondering about some of the content that goes on in WC. Aside from the norm sellers and Squad calls there are very adult content being said. While i know there is no way to eliminate this from the game I have to wonder about the kids that play and what they are being exposed to?

The TOS states 13+ can download the game and make an account with perental consent. Its 18+ without. But we all know kids these days are VERY intellegent and bypass there legal gaurdians consent to get in on the action. And then there are the few that are not legally old enough to be here but smart enough to not tell there age.

The content of some of he WC convo's are deffinitly not PG. I was wondering what everyone elses thoughts on this was?

While I see what you're saying and do generally disagree with the inappropriate things being said,
This is the Internet and at the end of the day if a kid thinks they're clever enough to bypass the system or a parents consent is given they should know full well as to what their child might be exposed too.

There are far more explicit things on the Internet that require no age restrictions and most that do require it are simply yes or no things for example

If an adult sex video site asks if you're 18+ or not and you say no it won't let you in. Most people would just press the back key on their browser and then click yes to be allowed access.

I'm just using this as an example here because I'm sure some of the things you're referring to here are of a sexual nature at times.

At the end of the day people behind a screen hundreds of miles apart can never truest be controlled. The warning is there so there should really be no complaints. If your kid experiences something unpleasant over the Internet it's either yours or their fault for being allowed access to that kind of thing. Pwi unfortunately is a medium through which exposure can occur.

Pwi blocks certain words and from their point of view that job is done.
If someone takes offence to what someone else has said because they e intentionally misspelt a blocked word or said something explicit its no one else's fault but the player who takes offence.

At the end of the day though... This is just a game and a slightly more complex and intricate one at that than your old fashioned 2D mmorpg and what not. The game is aimed at older and arguably earning people.

As an adult gamer, I think some of the wc discussions go above and beyond crass and inappropriate. I say keep it in whisper or private chat mode. Don't get me wrong, I can be more wicked/twisted/kinky than most, but, in the case of an MMO, I keep it private. 1. Because I don't have to prove my adult worth, 2. I'm way beyond thinking it makes me look cool, 3. I respect those that wish not see it in wc. 4. There are some kids that play that don't need to read it. 5. I don't feel the need to make sticky socks.

Agreed with that. There are a lot of people under the age of 18 who do it because they think it's cool, because they can remain anonymous if they wish and because it's cool to do things without your parents being aware of.

It's not just children though. There are adults who think it's cool, too. Let me tell you this, though; it's not cool. It's borderline gross and disgusting.

But hey, this is the Internet. You can't do much about it. Even people who appear sane in real life might be doing this behind the monitor.

I believe that the things said on WC are for the most part pretty obscene, but at the same time, I don't think we should be treating chat as PG, but R. Saying that, some of the things said on WC do go into the realm of XXX, and I wish they would make your Blacklist bigger, and would like to see WC used for more than just conversations that could easily be carried on in private messages, since most of the Server doesn't care or want to see what you are posting.

Let's be honest, if a kid has access to the Internet, it's only a matter of time before they see obscene language and such.

Just look at any comment section on any website, such as any news site, or even something as simple as Youtube, or better yet, these forums.

No filter or regulation on World Chat will prevent that.....in my opinion.

I know this might be unpopular opinion but its realistic.

If you are an experienced gamer, you'll know that not many MMO's act against this sort of behaviour and its been common since the first online MMO's.

I don't really like the vulgarities on World Chat, but there's still no reason for PWI to intervene, or any other game site that does not promote the game to children. The fact is, this game is designed to be played by a person with an adult mind. Not a child, yet they still get on.

Truth is,. we can't stop kids.

As long as PWI complies with the laws of the country the server's a hosted in, that's their role done. Unfortunately kids still get on the game. Which i think half the FCC beggers are ._.

but really, as much as I hate to say it, the 'think of the children' mindset ruins legitimate games when politically liberal people try to get their suggestions to regulate the internet and games accross, resulting in legitimately aged players getting screwed over by do-gooder groups who end up giving governments ideas to regulate the internet and games. Theres no reason legitimate aged players should lose things that make games great.

I am for a free and open internet, the only things that should be policed are the kinds that involve disgusting things such as pedophiles and their kind. but yes, I don't agree with the vulgarity, or the perving i see accross PWI or anywhere else. Sadly people just aren't decent anymore.

If it becomes harassment, then block the person, a ticket should be sent with a screenshot, PWI should take care of it.

Personally, if theres any evidence of perving on girls in my faction, bam, they are kicked out.

An idea for a solution COULD be that there are wc chat mods too, but they'd still not be on 24/7.

Generally I think WC is fairly clean.
Certain people at certain times do say some things that make me go -_- but I wouldn't want to encourage PW to censor any more things than they do already.
It's impossible to tell who is an adult and who is a child. I know some 15 year olds who are more mature than some 30 year olds.
If I had a kid that wanted to play an MMO, I'd be playing right along side them, as I know a bunch of PWI parents do too. Which I think is great, not only to keep an eye out (not on the kid, but on the people who interact with them), but also as a fun bonding activity XD

Many games have online GMs that monitor what is said in chat and react as needed.

PWI are way too cheap to have GMs monitor chat, so I guess you'll have to live with any **** that goes on in WC.

I'm a writer so needless to say I'm all for free speech, but even I have to admit that WC on many occasions crosses the line. It creates a couple problems:

1. when people start getting overly graphic in WC I know many people (myself included) that turn WC off. We go to squad or faction chat. Great for us because we don't have to see, not so great for the people who are using chat to sell something or perhaps find a squad. They can end up wasting a ton of teles because so many people have WC turned off.

2. The other problem is some things in WC could border on illegal. In the US it is against the law to allow children to have access to pornographic material, and a disclaimer in TOS doesn't compensate for that law. If an uptight parent were to see some of the things that go on in WC and report it PWI could in fact be hit with legal sanctions. Depending on the severity, it could result in changes that minors can no longer play or them being told they need to clean up chat. If the Devs in China deem it not worth the headache they could decide to pull the plug, or if the FCC is having one of their Crusade moments they could ban the game in the US.

Either way it is possible that we could lose access to this game. So I hope some people will keep that in mind the next time they get the urge to discuss bestiality in graphic detail on WC (and yes it has happen, I'm still trying to purge my memory of it)

Also, as harsh as it sounds, this is the internet. People are rude, namecalling and insulting beyond any border. Yes, there should be at least some moderation on wc. I don't want to see someone insulting someone's disabled family member or the likes. But at the end of the day it's also a thing parents should watch over. I'm generally not a fan of letting your child browse unwatched, seeing how many deep deep pits there are on the net...

I'm not really worried about how wc would affect any younger person playing this game. Let's face it, I'm sure they hear worse in public schools every day.

What I don't like is that wc is our main way of advertising for things like squads, or watching for things to be sold like molds from warsong, but it gets so bad that I have to turn it off and possibly miss out on things I'd been looking for. I wish there was a way to have an exclusive trade/advertisement type wc but of course, there is no way to regulate any type of chat without GM involvement.

Trade chat only works within a certain distance. World chat can be seen by everyone.

ok lets go over the basics... there is local (white chat), WC (yellow chat), Squad (Green chat), Blue (faction chat), Whisper, and trade chat (burgandy) then horn. (annoying chat)

Trade chat no one uses but its there and can be seen server wide if ppl have it enabled.

I think you are confusing trade chat, which is a dark orange and limited to your immediate area, with system messages, which are server-wide, and in a shade of red that could be confused with burgundy (though not to my eyes).
