Yep.
You heard me.
There is a glitch with the rank 8 recast weapon model for psychics.
If the player that wears the weapon attempts to log on with it they will crash their game.
If, however, they fix the error and log on with the weapon, they'll make everyone around them crash their game because on their side, the weapon model has not been fixed.
Pretty much:
If the weapon model is not fixed, it will crash the user.
If the weapon model is fixed, it will allow the user to log on and crash everyone else around them.
How do you avoid this?
By simply fixing the model on your client!
Just download this, place it in (wherever pw is installed)/elements/data and voila!
You will not be affected by this exploit at all.
If you ignore this, you are prone to being harassed by people wearing the bugged weapon.
This will affect you whether you are in town, in instance, or in tw.
This is very bad and you have to dl it as soon as possible.
Tw land holding guild leaders, please warn your faction mates as soon as possible to avoid being crashed by the enemy in tw.

Also, please do not wear the bugged weapon (if you have it) after using the fix.
Once pwe gets wind of it they may or may not take action against it.

Due to the emergency maintenance yesterday, I have removed the file since it is no longer necessary.
There is no point in holding on to the file if you haven't used it and/or have a copy outside of your game folder.

Only the psy r8 cast weapon has this issue.
The bugged model has been there since the imperial fury patch, for some reason wanmei had edited it and apparently they messed it up.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Hmmm could you make use of this glitch by constantly logging in the TW gathering area of the opposing faction making them dcd so much that they can't enter TW b:laugh[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

That rule has been under debate before, the actual GMs have gone over this. Basically you ARE allowed to modify the game files IF it allows you to more comfortably play the game or prevent glitches. b:bye[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

did anyone even check the file to see if it was infected in any way? I mean.. the OP said it isn't but doesn't make it true. suppose the same could be said of the dev's but still... I'd rather not toy around with my client files. It might actually do what its supposed to, but what about it doing extra stuff? spyware, trojans, etc.. are all risks you take when using unofficial files like such.
To the OP, you can be mad at me if you want for saying the first thing that came to my mind - i don't care. I don't know you and haven't any reason to trust the file you have linked.

The download is a single file that is 99.9% similar to the one you already have. The .1% difference is the line of coding that prevents you from loading the bugged model.
It would be probably near impossible to hide a virus in it. Even if it was possible, I would not know how.
I tell people not to equip the weapon because it'll d/c everyone around them. This fix is an enabler and a disabler; you can stop the exploit from affecting you, but in return, if you have the bugged wep and equip it, you'll affect everyone else.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
so it sounds to me like:
non psy can use the file no problem
non rank 8 psy can use the file no problem
rank 8 psy cannot use the file if they wish to use the weapon. If they wish not to crash when other psys use the weapon, they must use the file and not their own weapon.

file is harmless according to kaspersky atleast.

no.. the weapon itself is going to cause the crashes to anyone of any class who doesnt have the update. if you come in contact with a psy who uses this weapon and has it equiped you will crash. the only way they can even login with said weapon is using this fix. it helps everyone who uses it.. it is up to the psy's with recast r8 to do the right thing and use a back up weapon until it is properly fixed
