Why are there so few newcomers?

Whenever i travel through the 5 starting cities, i can't help but notice how very few new players there are nowadays. I remember as recently as during the Earthguard expansion all the starting cities and surroundings were bustling with activity, but now there's barely anyone. Its like all the newcomers disappeared simultaneously.
Now obviously the economy is screwed up beyond repair, CS'ers rule the game, etc. but none of those things become apparent or affect the players in any way until mid-game.
So what exactly is going on? Bad publicity? Lack of advertising? What are your thoughts?

Yeah, i think less new players now, if they are low levels *born*, most of them are alt and most of them dont do normal leveling quest anymore...most of them just go for fast leveling in FCC...yeah sadly, not many doing the normal leveling anymore..b:cold0

id have to say about 90% of those earthguards that were so active after that expansion were alts or returning existing players starting up again.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Common sense dictate most new players head straight to the newest server since it's...new.
This mindset is common.
Common sense.
People are lacking much of this these days...

It gets even worse when, the actual rare 'New Comers' who do show up to try and play the game, find so very few 'other players' of their own levels to squad up with and then run the quests with.......b:worried
Its no wonder so many of them Quit Playing after they initially tried to play in the first place.......b:cold
And the DEVs don't help it any, by leaving the (Creativity & Development) part of this game on a Lame Old ~ Near Death ~ Failing 'Life Support' System...........b:tired b:surrender0 -

and this is why people should start a game with a friend ... i mean, i know its very hard to find bh parties for the lower levels ... they should make an event where if u sign up, you have your friend sign up referring your name (on a different IP address) and if you get to like, 30 or something, you each get 5 gold ... idk, some kinda event like that (that people cant abuse easily)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

If you are new player:
1. You enter at empty starting place
2. You do dozens initial quests, which give you (sometimes temporary) items
3. Using new 5/10/15/25 level quests you quickly raise up to level may be 30.
4. Then you start asking, what to do next, look at world chat may be and see following:
1) FC leveling,
2) Vortex leveling.
5. If you are interested in it you start to do FC up to some level (may be even 100).
6. If not and you see, that 1 high level item cost more, than total reward of all possible quests, you stop to play or start work every day with thoughts like: "Month later I will buy this item."0 -

Yeah agreed, it would be nice if they'd come up with something like you put here.....b:thanks
But sadly, it looks more & more like the (Devs) don't even want to try anything like that anymore, they only seem interested in only authorizing '1 sale after another' to try and bilk as much coin as they can outta everyone & this game now, until it finally does go under though......b:surrender
I'm seriously starting to wonder why (PWE) is seemingly, so Hellbent into turning {PWi} into the next {SWG} Cause their pretty close to killing it now, just like that other company killed {SWG} b:flower

All that was said above, plus :
The competition in the online gaming field is fierce. And PW is not ranking very high in this field now, unlike it was when they opened the first servers.
Add to that that a couple of highly anticipated games will be released in 2012, means that PW will have a hard time attracting many new players.Frankieraye said : "we can promise that we will work to improve all facets of community, engineering, and customer service to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again."

I like this thread +1
I hope the powers that be watch this. I hope it keeps going and people keep giving their opinions.
My 2 cents would be that the players do not support the game they play and spend more time complaining about the way the game has become and not focusing on what the game could be. more could be said.0 -
I agree with Sagek and many posters above.
It's true that the PWE staff tease us with so many sales and whatnot that makes the game so easy as soon as you charge money but in my opinion the playerbase has done the most damage.
I mean, the staff do/add/implement stuff or glitches/bugs/etc. are found but it's your own choice whether you'll buy/do/abuse said things or not.
No offence to people who charge money. Just stating some facts here. I know I would also charge more if I had the possibility but I also like farming and achieving things on my own. I take alts to FCC sometimes but I also like grinding, questing, etc. with them. Heck, it's almost one year since I made my psy and she hasn't hit 100 yet XD
When new players join and have nobody to quest with things get hard and most likely quit. When an existing player starts an alt they have nobody to quest with (besides their high level friends) and they powerlevel etc.[SIGPIC]http://i.imgur.com/MtwcqjL.png[/SIGPIC]

I feel like this post is a great summary of the problem with newcomers today.
You see, PWI is a great game for people who never played MMORPGs before, as well as for experienced gamers. But before FC leveling became so popular, people sat and played this game for as high as level 90+, engaged with other players who did the same, and were drawn deeper into the content of the game.
The starting areas are no longer surrounded with new players because in my humble opinion, the game a) isn't advertised enough anymore (for example, when I started playing nearly 3 years ago there were online advertisements everywhere) and less and less people hear about the game, and b) those who do try it see an empty area and leave since there is no one to guide them through.
And of course, those who get to level 30 get to the main area and see little to no players their level to play with (since a lot of players, new or alts - power leveled) and may even result to power leveling themselves. It's enough that you join a guild to do FC runs for absolutely no charge to level to 90 within a few days or weeks.
Now, this isn't a complaint about the community - I've already come to an understanding that power leveling isn't something that I can fight. However, since there are less and less people coming into this game, and less of them are playing this game as they were initially intended, the areas up to level 60 or even 70, have emptied nearly entirely.
The point of this is that this is life and this is the evolution this game has made, sadly, we can't help it. Unless PWE puts a level limit of FC some day and pushes this game in advertisements as well as offers more content and less dailies that require little to no playability, we will see less and less people actually coming into this game and staying.

new comers are often ignored by the higher players, or even being rudely spoken to by higher players. Thats a big problem that will cause problems for all of us in long term.
Another problem is that there is no real reward for new players or even protection for them. often new players are used by idiots to pk them, scammed or in any other way abused. New players don't know as much as the players that are in much longer, meaning they are easy targets.
Also the PWI crew itself is a lot to blame, the customer service is terrible which scares of many people. Both new as long time subscribers. But also the lack of correct translations from Chinese to English is causing a lot of problems ingame.0 -
First of all this game wins more money then my country president and they can afford to make some advertising. Second I think there are new players but they play a while and they see no drop items, no drop coins, mission very hard without squad like BH, Spiritual Cultivation and other. The problem of this game is not power lvl, the problem is that the characters depend to much on others. The game must be a little improved so pepole can play this game solo. at least at low lvl's. NO one help you in BH anymore or quest. Imagine a cleric lvl 20-30 try to do mission and Spiritual solo...NOT A CHANCE. So as long as u need 6 people to play this game and no drop, no coins, new players will quit after few days of game.0

When I made my cleric I solo'd everything pre-30. And this was before we had blessings, genies, supply stash, etc. So it's not impossible.
Your overall point is kinda bad because if people want everything to be done solo... well... we have console games for that. The whole point of a MMO is the social interaction and doing stuff with people. Unfortunately, with everyone being powerleveled or an alt of an alt of an alt the few new people that pop up really have no incentive or reason to stick around. And with the lack of advertising, there's not even a decent flow of them so that the newbies can at least hang out with others that are new.0 -

Cleric can do it at low levels.
About coins ... it is possible also for Cleric.
But BH is same as for all classes.
Drops and quest's rewards are not related with Cash shop items though, what mean same work for high level equipment.0 -
Every game have a life Cycle and PWE is known to let Games die. Its not about getting new Players its about keeping the existing ones until the point is reached where the income from the servers isnt statsifying anymore and they shut the game down.
The first Servers that will shut down are the EU Servers , Maybe they will shut down one PVE Server East and West coast until they have only 1 server left and some days

No one help you at low level's and at high levels they want rank and 5 aps, get real! Even if 1000 people come to the game they will still be broke and have no coins and no items and they will quit because big lvl's are rude to new ones. The game dont stand a chance if they dont change things around. The only thing they can do is quit to much servers and let 4 max. 2 PVP and 2 PVE.0 -
I don't understand why most players think that most of the new players don't do quest anymore and instead buy FCC heads...I mean, where the heck a NEW player gets the funds to buy FCC heads ?,unless he charge zen ofc,but I don't see "Most" of em charging Zen.
Those"new" players you say are probably alts with mains who actually have the money to fund these "services".

Why the heck people think that only because some random newbie heard about fcc heads immediatly think"omfg Im gonna buy a tons of em now!"?,I seriously known quite a "few" new players that aren't interested in fast levelling, and I don't even think that the majority of em its obssessed in power levelling either. The only way to beat a troll is....to troll him back b:angry0 -

Restore FC to the original instance, there is realy no need for an XP instance
Remove XP from PQ (only the completion rewards should grand you xp)
To level up there are enough options already.
1.BH
2. storyline quests
3.OHT
4.Events
5.Crazy stone (if you have a little extra cash)
No FC/PQ powerleveling means leveling to 100 becomes a fun and challenging activity to do with friends.
(btw, Old FC can still be a way to lvl up if you farm the mats and turn them in for orders)
edit: Forgot to mention Delta
edit2: didn't they add another XP instance recently?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

PWI used to have a Refer-a-Friend scheme, where if you referred 10 friends and they reached lvl 30 I think it was, you would get the super rare black raptor mount. My old faction leader did it. Wonder why they stopped this scheme ... maybe they don't like giving out free items b:chuckle0 -

A lot of factions will add newbies, and offer to run FC for free to level up newbies in order to keep them in the faction, as well as strengthen the faction for future TW. A few of the factions I was in, and that friends of mine are in, do it on a regular basis.

Leveling pace. When I purchased a new computer. This was the first game I downloaded and installed. I then went on to level a variety of toons. The highest I got was level twenty something. The pace went to a sudden stall. The gameplay essentially became, kill a few mobs, meditate. Kill a few mobs, meditate again. The autoroute feature was also kind of odd since it goes straight in a bee line. If I had wings, that wouldnt be a problem. But the real turn off was the suddenly slow pace once you reach level 20.0

tientiensuser wrote: »But the real turn off was the suddenly slow pace once you reach level 20.
Slow? Wait till you get to level 70-80-90, that's when it's actually slow. I wouldn't even call it steady at level 20, it's super fast when you compare it.

Maybe on whatever server you're on, but I've never seen this done in any faction I'm in. >_> Nobody wants to invest time and effort into someone unless they are going to stick around, simply because even if they do, they're gonna be a powerleveled noob. Then again, I'm in factions with people that all leveled up before goons came about, 'old school' players I guess, so maybe it's just where I'm at.
TW is more or less the only thing that keeps me playing right now, so... I don't go roaming the starting areas.101 Sage Sin*/Archer

I don't get it
If we're talking about alt players with a main *who have money* or someone that can charge money every week I understand
But HOW levelling its supposed to help a new player?
Getting to 100...yes there are the BH100 rewards and stuff, but what?,equipment still requires money does that factions gives away free equipment too?
And explain me how a "TW" faction thinks to be competitive with a bunch of hyper-levelled people with lv.70-80 gear and *maybe* not even decent experience at playing their class?
How those people really think to help *new* players? The only way to beat a troll is....to troll him back b:angry0 -
Alts don't classify as "new players" in my book. Most of them create their account and then just go straight to Archosaur or whatever and get power-levelled.
Though power-levelling in itself is a problem as well. If it didn't exist, alts would have to level the exact same way as brand new players. It would be easier for them since they could transfer money and equipment from their main, and obviously they'd have a superior knowledge of the game, but they would still have to quest, run low level instances, etc.
As it is, because of the lack of newcomers and because of power-levelling, the low and mid-game is pretty much dead.0
