Why are there so few newcomers?

All that was said above, plus :
The competition in the online gaming field is fierce. And PW is not ranking very high in this field now, unlike it was when they opened the first servers.
Add to that that a couple of highly anticipated games will be released in 2012, means that PW will have a hard time attracting many new players.
This. Look at the game list on one site say, www.mmorpg.com and holy crapola is there a lot to choose from. Then look at the upcomings and the very few Ive read about are Archage, The Secret World, SWTOR (recently released I know), G.W.2, D3 etc etc etc. Think also Skyrim, Battelfield 3, Tanks, let alone all the army shoot em's like COD etc etc.
Now I'm not discussing any of the above titles or claiming merits whatsoever, but PWI need to compete with these guys by offering something to the new player and fast levelling isnt it.
EDIT - PWI need to offer something else to the old players too. We did the Morai quests in a week and now its back to dailies again.....0 -
And what else they could add for low levels?
If you DO all the quests you can pretty much level to 60 with only a few BHs(You can even completely skip BH29).
Existing quests were ok,but they added Earthguard's quest from 20 to 51,Tideborn Quests from 40 to 61 you need to play like a week for 7-8 hours/day before you really run out of quests, and levelling only gets somewhat slow after 60,but hey, there are pubblic quests no-stop for 15 hours straight daily, there are crafting skills to level, there's some grinding there and there, there's the lucidsilver chest thing quest, there's BH,and you say there's not enough stuff for lowbies?
holy freaking LOL what else you guys want?, free exp/spirit out of nowhere?
Do your freaking quests and stop crying that there isn't enough stuff to do because there's plenty and you're just all being lazy slackers.
AND I would like to add that you all sound like you have someone aiming a gun at you yelling"You have to level, faster, faster I SAID FASTERRR!"//"Charge gold, more gold,MORE GOLD!!",over and over. You sounds soo obsessed with it.The only way to beat a troll is....to troll him back b:angry0 -
People nowadays are very lazy, I play this game before of the Twilight Temple exist, where if you had a three star weapon you was GOD (not to mention the ultra expensive MOLDS lol), we ran out of quests around the level 35~37. Today you can reach the lv60 and you still have lots of quests to do.
I don't think that PW is fail about level, It's the power leveling that It's a problem, the game pretty much is reach lv100 for start to enjoy It.0 -
Because this game sucks at the moment? Because the Economy became crappy BS? Because the game is simply too old and dying already?? b:bye0

How do you enjoy the game after 100? after 100 is nothing left to do, but just login to collect keys then logout and come back the next day for another 1minute or so0 -
ChaoticShelly wrote: »Slow? Wait till you get to level 70-80-90, that's when it's actually slow. I wouldn't even call it steady at level 20, it's super fast when you compare it.
LoLzZz
Remember back in the day, when we were all stuck with the 'GRIND H*LL' of the '60s' and the total lack of quests each of those levels had (Back B4 all the other newer added dailies like the BHs, were added to our quest charts, to fill that gap.) and all we could do to try and make it to 70th was do the daily CS runs and use nothing but Training Eso's while we Zhen'd all day at 'Rockin Wolves & the Spiders' ROFLMAO!!!!!!!b:laugh
And others started to buy Oracles like mad.... Just to get out of the months long grind it would take otherwise, to be able to get to 70th..............b:chuckle
b:dirty__Oh too the good old day's! And all those 'Dismount the Mount's' Session's, just so we could actually get into the cities through the towns gateways__b:pleased__ or 'Any Gateways' for that matter......b:embarrass0 -
I have three genies to dump experience into Because skills and questing are more important to me than levels. Yes I stand on the BH platform for more than 20 minutes b:shocked sometimes to find a bh51 squad and yes I have to comeback to quest bosses on another day occasionally so I can get them done. Been playing for over a year now and I guarantee I am enjoying this game far more than any *ZOMG LVLS* noob out there.
Patience everyone, the journey is far more interesting than the destination.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Because you will start to do instances and will work out on your set, we only gain the level's from power level, not the armors lol.
Edit: also, lv90 is pretty much a basic requisite for join any guild, that means: you can't go to TW before of that.0 -
Most of the people you see by running through the starting areas are propably either new made alts of someone who already has a high level character, or just a level 1 random shop... Especially clerics since they can fly since level 1 and its easy to bring them to Archosaur x.x And anyone who is actually new to game and just created their character usually plays until they reach level 20 or something and they quit... Basically because these days noone does normal questing anymore and the newcomers don't have a oportunity to squad with others or make friends I've seen many people quitting around their 40's or 50's because they cannot ever find a squad for their BHs, FBs and other stuff unless they find someone from their faction to quickly solo it for them.. Which destroys the whole idea of the game. Now seriously if u stand by the HH for 30 mins.. how many people LF BH 29, 39 or 51 would u see...? b:surrender[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

G.W.2 , that's all i have to say. Unless PW redesigns the game , making it more appealing and competitve it will die pretty hard. And dont cry for things like *you have to buy it*. it is a one time purchase and you can enjoy so many different aspects while here your credit card must explode if you want to survive.
Guess it is time to bring MMOs to a new level and wipe out the old ones , a nice clean up is what we need. b:bye[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

2 very good points.
plus if you read the reviews of PWI on other sites like the one that was previously mentioned, they are all Horrible reviews. Even the people who are trying to defend it can only say a few posative things about it.
That in no way is going to encourage new players to come play.0 -
I hope that when G.W.2 or any other title coming soon will be out I won't see you people still hanging around here.
Really

Agreed. I have read a few reviews on the net and they all seems wrote by someone who played for barely a couple of hours(Like Clerics being "Healing only" or Sins being "glass cannons" lols)The only way to beat a troll is....to troll him back b:angry0 -
I'v noticed this aswell, all the new players are usually just an alt of someone else.
Well why there are so few new players is probably because once there is somone new who doesnt know how everything works he/she usually gets attacked in all possible way's by those players who is just an *** to the bone, which there are plenty of in PWI.
Another thing might be PWI doesnt have that much to offer to new players, and they have kinda ruined the droprate so bad its not even funny to be on a new character (took 1 and half hour to get 1 dull claw for lvl 30 flyer quest- ended up buying the others - this was with my level 29 barb) , Squad TT is more or less dead so getting gear from TT is harder then it used to be.
Another thing is that you just need to look at the forums about how the support for the game is, and how it is runned.
And finaly PWI's graphics/playstyle is getting old, look at PWE's newest investment,RaiderZ. it does look alot better, ALOT ALOT better graphicly speaking and its not the standard auto attack, you can dodge roll block etc.0 -
Ruined the drop rate?, I haven't seen any lower drop rate than usual, If I need a DQ item for a bank / flyer quest,I grind mobs of my own level and at around lv.30 it takes very little effort. I would like to known which mob you were grinding on your barb, because taking 1 hour and half for a single DQ drop its far too unrealistic.
Its fun how people say the game its ruined or has nothing to offer to new player and yet they don't even bother to explain HOW the game its ruined and HOW it hasn't anything for new players.
They ALL use generic sentences like above,I wonder if they actually have an idea or they just too lazy to write anything other than sux/ruined/old/crappy.The only way to beat a troll is....to troll him back b:angry0 -

Now obviously the economy is screwed up beyond repair, CS'ers rule the game, etc. but none of those things become apparent or affect the players in any way until mid-game.
So what exactly is going on? Bad publicity? Lack of advertising? What are your thoughts?
Perhaps a lot of the "newcomers" you saw were just old players playing the new race.
Perhaps the newcomers are just not playing on the server you frequent.
Perhaps it's because the people that would play this game don't know about it or
Perhaps PWE doesn't have the best reputation for game quality or good player support?
I admit while there are some things that have been broken from the beginning and the support can make you go hmm sometimes (depending on your expereince perhaps a whole lot more or more like b:angry) I have to admit there are way worse out there (very popular game sites at that which make me wonder how they manage to keep their servers open crapping on their players the way they do) and PWE is pretty much average in those departments.
While I have my opinion on what the issue might by in short it could be many things. Unless one or more of those many things starts eating away at their profit margin I don't think any of them are going to be given much mind."For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." -John3:160 -
when a new class comes out, of course their starter areas are busy. and when they finish the quests that are sited there, they follow the quest strings that send them to Archo and beyond. it works this way for all races.thelinkwarriorss wrote: »Whenever i travel through the 5 starting cities, i can't help but notice how very few new players there are nowadays. I agree with u put some more & challenging instance which are really hard to do ,
and introduce a new lvl up system for high lvl's ! This is my personal opinion. Introduce a system where a lowbie can't power lvl with the help of FC's . Its for 70+ players .So below lvl 70 strictly can't enter in FC.
One thing i will like to add in Perfect World Malaysia u can't activate hypers in FC, so ppl out there can't lvl up faster, still the game is enjoyable coz its damn hard to play and a real fun tbh. Pwi is too much easy comparing it to Malaysia !
Don't power lvl guys enjoy the game.b:victory[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Well, as a new player myself, I can honestly relate to some of the issues that have been suggested throughout this thread.
I have played a number of MMOs in the past, but have never heard of Perfect World until a few real life friends of mine told me that they played, and invited me to come join.
When I initially joined this game, patched, and finally customized my character and got plopped into the starting city, one of the first things that crossed my mind was "where is everyone?"
I walked around a bit, slowly adapted myself to the hotkey interface, controls and eventually stumbled upon the quest interface and began questing/randomly killing mobs (mind you I read a few guides before going online, as I like to be a forum active player and read a bit to be informed about games before diving into them). I completed a number of quests, talked to random people walking around who never answered anything I asked/said to them. Had the occasional person beg for Res/FP and Heals (I'm a Mystic) but that was it. Everyone else is seemingly in a rush going nowhere.
Anyway, I get to level 30ish and thought to myself "Well, what do I do now?"
In a nutshell, here's the impression I get of Perfect World from reading the forums/looking around in game (Note: everything I'm putting here is stuff that others have said, not me).
- Lots of people deem Assassins/Psychics as OP.
- "If you don't Cash Shop regularly, you can forget about getting into squads/participating in PvP."
- "If you aren't interested in paying real money to bomb through the levels power leveling/refining your gears, and you don't have real life friends to play with, you're screwed." - I do have friends to play with, so the latter isn't really an issue I guess.
- "Lots of bugs exist, and have existed since the beginning of beta, and aren't getting fixed."
- "It took weeks for tickets to be answered about the major hacking incident that occurred a while ago."
Don't get me wrong, Perfect World is nice, we love the graphics, music and the initial gameplay, but in the end are we just wasting our time? Something tells me a lot of new players ask themselves the same thing...
Does our crew really stand a chance leveling and getting gear the "non Cash Shop" way?0 -

I think what comes up from this thread is, as this game evolves and changes throughout the years - does it really stand a chance against other, newer games released nowadays, even by the company itself? Content wise, it doesn't seem to compete with what other games seem to offer, despite having a lot more depth as you go further in level (in a sense).
The level of challenge offered to players is close to zero, as everything is handed to them by the cash shop and/or by the lack of obstacles in the game itself. And there is no real reward to achieving high level, as you can either make more money, do Nirvanas, or TW.
I absolutely love PWI but I can't help but wonder if the Chinese team truly cares that while the game is standing strong in China, the opposite is true for NA? It's not close to dying, nor is it dead yet, but with lack of newcomers, and with older, regular players discontent and them leaving eventually, it's bound to happen.

pwi is slowly dwindling down to non-existent. u have a few great mmo's coming out this year; and, i'm looking forward to g-w-2 and d-3. i believe these 2 games (plus others like t-e-r-a) will kill pwi slowly over time (i wish it could be instant death for pwi b:laugh).

As like any MMO that's 'free to play' with a cash shop it runs it self out in 2-3 years. Players reach end game far to fast then get bored and complain about lack of end game content. But then again, that's why it's called end game. Power leveling or buying your way to the end is rather pointless. Sure you're now King of the Hill, but game over.0 -
Well I remember when I first started I quit after the first few weeks because no one would even answer any questions at all that I had and I joined probably 7 different guilds. I couldn't get one question answered and I played for about a month before I just said cya guys later. People were so busy with what they were doing in game they couldnt even stop to answer anything I said in faction chat. Probably 4 different guild gave me complete silence when I asked a question and the other 3 got mad and blamed me for spamming the faction chat because I asked it more than once in a half hour, really? But eventually I started up again and was determined this time to find a good quild and that I did. I think it all comes down to finding the right group of helpful people that want the same things you do in game. If u all lvl up together its not that hard to go anywhere in this game at all and its honestly a lot of fun. This game is all about teamwork mostly unless u dont want anything worthwhile. To new players that come in I say to you that is probably the best thing to do is too find a really good guild and dont fall into the trap of CS or powerleveling. Your just going to be disappointed in the end.10x R9 Sage Sin Active
