PWI - Really that bad?

Hi,
I'm a new to perfect world. For the last couple of days I've enjoyed browsing the forums whilst at work to learn more, become a better player and generally become involved with the community.
It seems to me that there is a lot of anger on these forums about the state of the game, whether it be gripes about "Cash Shop", lack of fixes/updates, game abandonment and so forth. This is quite disheartening to hear, so I thought I'd take the time to create a thread about the good points of the game from my perspective. Hopefully it will help to lighten the mood a little...
So, i joined a little over little over a week ago, levelled a mystic up to 27 and have just got my cleric up to lvl 14. So far my experiences of the games have been very positive.
Much of my time online is spent admiring the landscapes, other people, skills and generally taking in the atmosphere. People have been friendly and assisted me with questions and quests and the sound track is so peaceful. (Pangu, is a great place to unwind after work ^_^)
I've played many MMORPG's large to small, and always enjoy PWI the most, perhaps its because I don't intend on reaching level 105. I'm happy just plodding along and enjoying what's available. Rather that worring about "5aps" and "R9", my train of thought is more like, "I realy love my wings" or "Lets have a firework party tonight!" etc.
I can't believe that the game is "Dead" as I've often been lead to think from reading the forums. Wasn't "Genesis" only released in March? I would have thought that would take a fair bit of effort and perhaps now that its out, they are working on improving in the game in general? I know that PWE recently purchased Cryptic Studios from Atari, which will hopefully bring new resources to the table...
It's easier to enjoy the game if you just take it as it is, enjoy the journey and friends that you make and most of all have fun.
What are your thoughts? Do you have any praise to give for the game or do you think that I'm simply a naive new player who will learn the "terrible truth" some day!?
Thanks for taking the time to read and i hope it made you feel a little better about PWI, and if not then lighten up!

I, as well as a large majority of the game's population started out as you did. For the first few years, I like you took it as it is. This was until things began to get progressively worse. Powerlvling, Endgame gear available for $$, hyper-inflation, bugs it took years to fix, bugs that have existed since beta period, the list goes on for days.
You might not realize the the true state of the game til maybe later, when you and your friends reach 90-100+. This game is being dug deeper and deeper into it's grave due to poor company management.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

yes. very soon. you're playing in pvp server, so you'll be QQ about ganking and overpowered fishes very soon. if you just want to "enjoy the journey and friends", than you should at least choose pve. you'll be QQ about terrible coins inflation as well if you not CS. you just cant buy **** if you just farm few hours in a day. or you have to spend all your lifetime farming good gear (i mean really good gear, for pvp).
so I would recomend not to begin with these drugs, but do whatever you want. good luck.
sorry for my broken english.0 -
Well like with most games that actually look half decent, it's easy to simply think oh this and that looks nice, I still like the look of the odd few things, but it doesn't make the game much more fun, this game has no end game content, once you've ran things like Twilight Temple numerous times, you will see how boring and repetetive dungeons and bosses/mobs on this game are since there's pretty much no variation, unless you can call variation a "dev fix" of making a certain boss in TT3-1 kill an entire squad with 1 skill unless there heavily geared.
The problem with this game is that everything is revolved around the cash shop, anything you want to buy is pretty much effected by it, so unless you actually want to chuck money at the game, a lot, then save your self the time and turn back, as you may like it now, but when you begin to understand the game more, you will see it's just a wreckage waiting to sink, which will happen I assume when/if the insane cash shoppers with R9 decide to quit.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Thanks for the replies and its nice to see some people who share the same views and get the opinions of those who don't.
Hideori - I chose pvp mainly because i have a few real life friends on Harshlands and because i was lead to believe pvp was a better experience in general. I'll try not to QQ in the future (I don't need the best stuff/cashshop to have fun) and with regards to being "Ganked" I'll learn to take things with a pinch of salt.
It seems, that at least for a while or a few years you can get alot of enjoyment before things start going downhill. (At least according to FateMakerr & Daedallus) Perhaps PWI's problems will become more apparent to me when i reach "endgame" and as stated if I find it has no endgame content that that's fine, I enjoyed the journey.
The saying "Ignorance is bliss" really applies I suppose, this is a game after all. Hopefully in the future if things actually do start going downhill and the charm wears off, I'll be able to apply this logic to see the beauty of the game that is underneath and think to myself that PWI is a diamond in the rough.
I do have one question though, and I don't mean to be rude. If people dislike the game so much and have so many complaints then why stay?0 -
I for one still very much enjoy this game and have been playing this game for about 2 1/2 years as of yet i have not been in PK mode nor have i been in TW and yet i do still enjoy playing .
I will agree after you hit lvl 100 there aint much left to do and it is sad to see But i still find something to do to keep busy ( yes i do get board at times mainly dew to time differance as i live in Australia)
I would say if your in no hurry to get to lvl 100 here is a lot to do and enjoy in this game you will need to find like minded people who feel the same way as it so hard to find help with many people lvling to 100 and skipping 95 % of the game to get to end game gear.
I will add for those people that have already gone and done all the quests in this game it can get a bit dull doing them over and over again.
But if your happy to take your time then do so as it is your game and you should play it the way you want to and enjoy it.0 -

despite what people are sayign about having to cash shop in order to succeed, i have to disagree with them
If your a fairly smart person ( and it comes across as you are ) you can earn quite a lot of coin by going the merchanting route. There are many different items you can merchant in this game, and its not that hard to figure out the markets.
Pwi does have 2 features that many games dont allow, and which really helps in making money
1) they let you have 2 game clients open at once
2) they let you convert in game coin into cash shop gold
this allow you to essentially have an account that you use purely for making money, and assuming your computer can handle it, and you dont mind leaving it on all the time, you can have your shop running 24/7
It also means that you can take your coin in game, and convert it to cash shop gold, so you dont need to spend real money if you are good enough at merchanting. you can earn all the cash shop items you need purely on your own ability
i started 6 and a half months ago with a few million in seed capital, and i have converted it to more then 200x my original starting point, since February.
You dont have to spend money to win in this game, though granted it helps, but especially if your the type to level slowly, and are in no rush to endgame, you can get by without spending money, and still eventually get the best items out there┌─┐

If you play this game because you enjoy playing with your friends, then that should be reason enough to enjoy it. Now, when it comes to endgame content like TW/Weekly Events/PvP you will see the difference between a player who wants to have fun and a player who is competitive having fun. I think you are better off in a PvE server.

People stay with the game because they use it as an IM mechanism, or because they "have to have" their top gear.
This'll be your story in game, the same way it is for everyone else.
At first, within the first 30-50 levels you'll easily find the game to be fun and enjoyable. The story even starts out well. However, around 60+ the grind hits you, along with an obscene amount of boss battles (though it wont be tough with the majority of players being 100+ now) Bounty hunter instance grinds which players use as a coin farming ring, Twilight Temple, which is of the greatest burden on clerics in "original parties." Daily's such as Crazy stone dont do what they once did, and now you get world quest around this point (which is 2-3 hours of you flying around the world to gain a paltry amount of exp) and quests literally run dry; however there are a slew of daily quests you can do to help combat this, also if you're willing to flex your monetary might, you could likely buy your way into an FCC. By this point you've needed a golden hammer to open your level 50 box to get a temporary (used to be permanent) weapon that would normally balance the gear gap, but now since it only lasts a few days, its not worth it anymore.
You've just gotten this really cool skill that'll help your clericing skills. Regeneration Aura. It's so cool! You know that it'll over power all your other healing skills, and you'll never need another one! Then you realize that's true, you also realize that it kills your cheap charms, and now you're feeding with MP food to keep your MP from "ticking" before your mp drops below half. As you get into the 70's you'll start to feel the gear pinch, along with a "need" to grind in FCC, or Frostcovered city, which people have started charging for a free instance, because they "clear to heads." If you opened your lvl 50 box, you find yourself getting items that dont do you any good, contrary to the free speedy wings and generous weapons every few levels. You've also likely run into a problem with getting your "FB69 20x3" done. There is a developing framework however for teamwork and if you've proven the skill of your router's ability to stay connected, you're accepted.
Around 80, you'll find yourself paying close to 10-30 mil on your skills to get them caught up to your "demon/sage" or level 10 cap(you wont even notice), so that your favorite skills will be available to be made into level 11 skills. By this point, you've either purchased a new set of wings from a player, or charged to get a set, or ground mount, have likely seen the cutesy pets that run around and do nothing, probably bought a few sets of clothing, attempted to dye them, or attempted to get dyes for them and failed. Attempted tier up a piece of armor or a weapon, and had it shatter on the first attempt.
You have your super Awesome green-glowy gear, you also likely have some pieces of gear that look useful, also you've likely looked at the Nirvana gear by now. At this point you're 81 within the same time frame it took you to go from 70-80. You're feeling the difference between rank gear, TT gear, FC gear, and Nirvana Gear; and have likely participated in TW.
By the time you hit 89 you're at the point were you feel salty and old like a worn leather boot, but, you hit lvl 89 so now its time to do your FB89 and choose your side! Be prepared to argue about your choice, also be prepared to defend it against hundreds of people who chose the opposite and feel jaded about it.
By the time you've freely hit 100 and now can go into Nirvana, and you're excited. You feel like you've done it all, FCC, TT, All the FB's killed some world bosses, Jungle ruins run, Dragon temple, TW, Stood for hours in blue bubble, while others have fun in rebirth, and have probably done the cube.. You quickly discover in Nirvana however; that you're not needed. In any way shape or form because the once "Squishy fish" is now a super tank, holding off enemies with amazing attack speed, healing abilities that far surpass your own and uncanny dodge rate. Upon seeing this multi-million hp boss fall in a few seconds, you feel that you were only brought along to be a "Buff dispenser."
You try to fight, but realize that you're WAAAAAAAY out classed, so what's left outside of attacking others who play, complaining about the way that they're too powerful, gearing up into your R9, or quitting?0 -
PWI is really not tat bad, except for its corrupted GMs that wants your money and selling unnecessary packs to further destroying the economy. and except for the game is full of bugs and people can lvl from lvl 1 to 100 in one day.0

Hi Curatio,
I noticed that your Core Connect states you received an achievement in Perfect World International dating all the way back to January 4th. That seems odd considering the quotes I highlighted in red.
I can appreciate your attempt to bring a positive thread into a forum that is drowning in negativity, but I must admit...
... I really don't want to hold your hand and sing Kumbaya My Lord after you just attempted to deceive me.
Anyways, with your adept ability to lie to this community, and your naive concept that this game is perfectly satisfactory in its current condition, I suggest you look for employment within PWE. You clearly possess all the necessary qualifications.
cheers!0 -

Cadeal, your breakdown of the higher levels is a little... exhausting... lol! At least I know what to expect I suppose and I hope it's not as dire as you make it sound! As Solar_one said though if I'm not rushing then there's a lot of game to enjoy before that.
Thanks for the top tip on merchanting Pyrostormz, I had not thought about that possibility but would certainly like to try my hand at being a shopkeeper and starting a "Business" ^_^ (I enjoyed merchanting on a certain Java based game, beginning with R in the past)
I might try PvE, as some of you have recommended. (I'm from UK and Lothranis is only has 50ping for me compared to 120ping of Harshlands) Not that I'm not competitive, but it seems that all of these "problems" with the game you've all mentioned seem to be centred around endgame PvP.0 -
Curatio - Harshlands wrote: »Hideori - I chose pvp mainly because i have a few real life friends on Harshlands and because i was lead to believe pvp was a better experience in general.
hooboy, that's quite a hornet's nest you gone and kicked, there... whether pvp is "better" or not is totally unanswerable, because it's totally down to personal preferences. and these are some of the most personal of preferences you'll run into online.
if either pvp or pve was truly objectively "better", we'd not have both kinds of servers. but the culture gap between the two subpopulations of gamers here is yawning and unbridgeable; PVPers and PVEers hardly even speak the same language when they speak about their in-game preferences and motivations for playing. whichever camp you're in, don't expect to ever really understand the other one.I do have one question though, and I don't mean to be rude. If people dislike the game so much and have so many complaints then why stay?
there are many possible explanations. the simplest one is that MMOs are addictive. (and no, that is not a simile, nor an analogy, nor a joke.)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

MY NOT BEING DELETED ALTS ON 2 SERVERS> FEAR THE DARK DAVID0 -
GoodStart - What's with all the nastiness!?
There is nothing listed for January 4th. My achievements are as follows:
Dec 29 - Hello World!
Dec 30 - It's Magic!
Jan 03 - Let Me Help You
Feb 01 - Getting the Hang of This / A New Day
I'm very sorry Inspector Clouseau, but i am indeed a "new" player as I stated, and these achievements were from when I registered my account at the invitation of a friend and subsequent experimentations with PWI and I haven't tried to deceive or lie to yourself or the PWI community.
With regards to my statement "So, I joined a little over a week ago" I suppose I should have added "After a long hiatus" even so, earlier in the year I only dabbeled with PWI and last week was when i decided to really make a go of it. (And signed up for the forums) Indeed my previous achievements are insignificant. The "Highest" one if you'd call it that is "It's Magic! - Level a Wizard to 10" - wow!
I apologise to the entire communuty for my oversight and I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but the way you're talking, you'd think that i had a level 105 and was asking things for the fun of it!0 -
I think the reason why some people complain is pretty simple...there's just not enough new optimistic players like OP. You should have seen this game when nobody complained...it was amazing. They made fun of me because I wasn't a R8 Psychic...and then came third cast. It's not funny anymore.

EVERYTHING IS ABOUT PVP. everything. you asked why do I play this game if I dislike it so much (I do), my answer is clear - only for pvp/pk. it's the only reason to play mmo. if you want pve, just play single player games, they're allways better than mmo. better in all aspects.
you will feel anger and butthurt when somebody kills your beloved character and you'll go for revenge. anger and butthurt will lead you to the dark side sooner or later and you will become like everybody - PKer or even RPKer, or just gank. its not about friendship and quests, its all about **** and kill.0 -
I hate the current state of PWI because I played it in 2008, when it was very much a different game. People were nice, you could find a squad, the GM's did regular events that weren't just for the upper 6 levels of the game, there were free giveaways, and most of the time, if something was broken, it got fixed pretty damn fast.
Compared to now, you can't find a squad, they broke most of the fun aspects of the gameplay, there are NO fun events for anyone who isn't level 99+, if something is broken, it takes, weeks, months, or even NEVER for it to get fixed.
On top of that, the community is full of scammers, *******s, and jerks who think nothing of ripping everyone else off.
Yes, it's a game, yes it's competitive, but that doesn't mean you have to blatantly lie, cheat, or rip off everyone you can to be the best of the best.101 Sage Sin*/Archer
100 Demon BM*/Barb
96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
95 Demon Wiz/
94 Sage Veno
85 Psy/80 Mystic
And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.
