How do people make their names?

When I'm making a character, I pick a theme I want them to follow, and that I'll follow when I'm playing them. Then, I name them along the lines of that theme.

FlickerFae: my cleric. Very cheery and delicate, like a fairy. She had butterfly wings for a while too, but I scrapped them for faster ones.

lilNightmare: my wizard. Kind of an anti-doll, designed as a young goth girl with an ever-present smirk. What with her ability to fry anything at a thought, she's concepted as every babysitter's nightmare.

BladeMarion: my bm. Strong and knightly. Yeah, it's a pun on the Robin Hood character. XD

ReefThief: my sin. A gentlewoman thief, friendly until it suits her to stab you in the back... and steal your drops!

WereBrute: my barb. A wolf who's blunt and no-nonsense, with a nasty streak when annoyed.

And I've got more... oooh boy do I have more. But those are my main ones.

I find it's easiest to just think of what you want the character to be, and just pick two words that fit that. Mind, anything with "death", "night", and "black" will be taken, but a little creativity is hardly amiss. b:victory

Just use the trick fantasy novel authors use, alternate random consonants and vowels till something sounds ok.....

Or steal from semi-obscure literature like I do.

hmmm most of my names have some kind of meaning behind them.

Flyingkea - my parents nicknamed me kea because i never stopped asking questions, then when I went to create an email account it wasnt long enough, and since I love flying i added that to my name.
Aroogah - A game I used to play with my Dad when I was really little - I grab his nose and he'd make a noise that would always make me smile.
Stormrace - I made her when the weather was really bad, and storms are pretty cool, but most of my choices were taken already.
Moonpredator - I've loved the moon for as long as I can remember as my parents used to be astronomers and as I was making a barb I wanted to incorporate that, and the fact he is a adangerous animal b:chuckle

Celestyna (cleric).. Celeste is an old D&D character and its celestial = sage
DiamondStar (Mage) nickname is Star, and in UO i named all my characters after gemstones, this was first one i made and i couldnt think of anything, i use SapphireStar in another game
Tellervo (Veno) Finnish goddess of animals, all her pets are named after other finnish gods/goddesses as well. I get asked if i am from finland ALOT when i am on her lol
Vitalien (Barb) warder from wheel of time, he was married to my ex's veno who is named Cadsuane

Fistol - Fist that is fast like pistol shots

VenusArmani= I love to shop and love fashion. Venus is the goddess of love and Armani is one of the most expensive brands out there. My first character who is only a cleric because I wanted to be able to fly right off the bat.


Cheethara=Venomancer. Cheetara, the half human/half cheetah warrior from the thunder cats.


Lucresha=Wizard. A common name in video games for wizards


Hakidunmoya=blademaster. a variation on the Hopi (Native American tribe) word for time of waiting. I wanted her to be a patient and benevolent warrior.

Calamusa=archer, calamus refers both to the root of a medicinal herb and the the quill of an arrow. I added the a to give it a more feminine sound.

Tikarina=assassin. Tikari is dagger or stiletto in Finnish. The na made it sound more feminine. Perfect name for a female assassin.

Bellonya=seeker. A play on the name Bellona, a roman goddess of war and symbol of military virtue. Senate meetings for foreign wars were held in the temple of Bellona in rome, and since I'm a political science major this one seemed like the best name of all the war goddess whose name i looked up when creating my seeker.

This name came from a song, and my cleric and mystic's names came from this character's name. lol
Then I have a sin named Ursylla (you knowww.. Ursula!) and my psychic's name is my sin's spelled backwards. My archer's name also came from a song, and my bm is named after one of my favorite bosses in game. The end.

Don't know what I was thinking when I named this 'sin. Must have been stoned out of my mind.

Anyway, my suggestion for your female 'sin name ? Spice it up with old Russia and call her:

"Karenina".

Well, some name that means something. At least for me. b:avoid

When I first started playing online games I used the name "Krises Blade" the game I played allowed spaces at that time. The word "Krises" reminds ME of the word "Crisis," so It was just a clever way to me to make a unique name.

The name I use now "Slivaf" WAS suppose to be spelled "Silvaf..." (a lot of people make this spelling mistake. ;p lol)

I basically originally meant to make it be a combination of "Silver," and the word "leaf" first 3 of Silver, last 2 of leaf. Though when I first made this name, I made a mistake, and it's stuck ever since, imo it even looks better on paper to me. ;p

As for my sins name "Swollag" that is just "gallows" spelt backwards. (that is how they used to assassinate people way back when. =x... not assassins... but they did hang people well... I don't know exactly when... I just know that how people were once sentenced to death. =x)

I have also used names like "Denkiteki Ken" Which translates from japanese to english as "Legendary Blade." At least that's what the online translators tell me. =x lol

My advice to you, is just find something you like and are passionate about, maybe even two things and combine it... it doesn't have to be japanese, it could be chinese translated into english letters, to make it a bit more unique.

My most common name in the internet is "Kas". So when I created this BM, i needed a suffix, resulting in my current name.

After having no alts for over 1.5 years, I created all classes with a name. All of them have Kas in them, as being my name. Also they feature a word that will tell you my class without seeing me. I might as well mention all of them here:
