Toon or Character?

Some of us call our characters toons while others call them characters.....or perhaps something completely different, like avatars.

Just vote and discuss, but no flaming or I'll set Grim on you. b:sin

    Well i never think of toons until i seen someone calling their character toons.

    Nickname doesn't have anything to do with sailor but related to a folklore

    Always caled them "chars" or "characters".Rarely heard people calling them "toons". b:chuckle

    I dont know bout every1, but each one of my classes has a name and i call them by class or name I.E. let me get my Barb or let me get my Sin oh my Mystic has that quests stuff like that and no i dont use 3rd person when refering to one of my classes b:chuckle

    I see the word 'toon' itself a bit weird. Also, I don't use it for anything usually. As for my chars, I refer to them as 'chars'. If pointing one in particular, I just refer to it by it's class.

    Actually toon has been used well before WoW even existed, although I can't say I know where it actually started, I can confirm it was in use before that.

    Honestly I think people started using toon instead because it's easier/quicker to type? I dunno, doesn't really phase me either way, we all get the point regardless of the label b:bye

    Used to hear people call them "toons" back when I started 2 years ago - but rarely hear it lately.

    I prefer to call them avatars.
    I have an ego so large it has it's own gravitational pull...So in short, yes, everything DOES revolve around me. b:pleased

    I call it character ingame, but on here I usually call it avatar, if I'm refering to.. well, their avatar, otherwise it's char or character. Toon reminds me of toot which reminds me of **** so... >_<

    i call my two mains as my 'characters''. the others i refer to as my alts. when i get frustrated, or tired of one class, run out of coins or something...many reasons...i switch over. right now, im building a new archer, because i messed up my original one, and dont want to blow the money for a reset. this way, i get to have a new name, too! ^_^b:chuckle

    Character, Toon, That bloody PITA Veno. Been calling my characters primarily toons since Everquest I many many many years ago. Haven't changed it really.

    So do people that call it "pop" instead of "soda" soda is the right word damnit!

    Yea I was going to post pretty much this..

    Alot of the old school gamers called them toons... In EQ1 it was the primary word people used when talking about, well their toon.

    I still have the habit of saying it without ever giving it a thought..

    Always called my char, character. Funny thing about playing online games. I dont like anyone on PWI called me Kehrendorh or Nahktuul, I like to go by my real name, Rob.

    Kinda neat too, cause if someone asks for Rob on WC or says Rob in guild chat, I know they are asking for me. b:thanks

    I'm not sure why, but "toon" sounds kind of disrespectful. As though the character being referred to is a thing, you know? Anyway, "character" is the term I use.

    I use Toon, Character, or Avatar. Either three are correct. THey are Cartoons, they are Characters, and they are your Avatar.

    They aren't cartoons, as this is an MMORPG. And they can't be "characters" and "avatars" at the same time, as an avatar is an online representation of you, and a character is a fictional personality/characterization separate from yourself, more fit for roleplaying and the like.

    Since no one here is a furry, a fish, etc,(as we're humans, or hamsters in rare cases...) most of us can't have avatars by the textbook definition of it. And if you want to get really strict, no one here can, as we were never born in pre-industrial/ancient China.
