What is localization?

Localization is the computer-lingo for "language fixes".

A computer program is written in computer language. The text within the program is "localized" for different users who read different languages:

English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, etc.

So PWI's "minor localization changes" is just a fancy way of saying "we translated chinese text better".

You mean I'm not supposed to buy Nirvana keys for 3,000,000 coins?

What you see in PWI is exclusively translation and not actually localization. Thats why we get swastikas on the platinum HP charms. Perfectly fine in asia but looks like **** Germany in the United States. Even the Zippo Lighter shops have the website of the chinese version of the game.

So, GMs, when can we expect some "minor localization fixes" pertaining to guild bases?

My understanding of wanmei policy is they don't like doing coding changes for different regions of a given game. That's basically the answer we were given when JD missed events China got (or what we did get broke) due to coding issues. Since pwe is a subsidiary of wanmei, they basically have to follow their rules. Suffice to say, Greenie's had to get creative with the gm tools/forums/facebook for events.

And yes, that first line can be read as, "if they do it at all, they'll be kicking and screaming the whole way." Server stability is the only reason I've seen them make potential code changes to JD that china might not have gotten. Base prices ain't exactly a matter of server stability.....

Edit: I suppose it could happen over the generally negative comments about base prices and statistics from the servers. I wouldn't hold my breath over it. >.>

We need a facepalm smiley. :-P

That's not a **** swastika. First of all the **** swastika is a mirror image of the symbol that is shown on the Platinum Guardian Charm. Second of all that's a wan, a Chinese character. I see neither a need nor a way to translate that there. The picture is art and we shouldn't have to cater art to the lowest common denominator that can't tell the wan from a **** symbol.

I note that the Platinum Spirit Charm also has a Chinese symbol on it, and yet you totally ignored that charm.

Seriously, I hope they never change it just so we have another excuse to educate people about the difference between the **** use of the swastika and every other even slightly similar symbol.

Finally, I don't think any user here can answer what "localization" includes, since none of us are the ones doing the localization and I have yet to see anything from the GMs or CMs regarding exactly what it covers.

Keep your facepalms to yourself. I said the platinum charm has a swastika on it which it does. I said the symbol on the platinum charm looks like a **** symbol which it does.

I'm aware that it is not actually the swastika the **** used but that's not really that important when you are talking about the perceived meaning of symbols. Ask anyone on the street in the US what they think of that symbol and you would get a different answer from people on the street in China. Would you have your kid wear a swastika on his t-shirt to school? You wouldn't in the USA due to its similarity to the **** symbol.

Also why exactly would I mention the symbol on a Platinum Spirit Charm? Thats not a swastika. The Guardian Charm is the one with the swastika on it.

Localization, internationalization, and translation are all industry terms with real definitions. Not whatever definitions PWI decides to use. Localization is the process of adapting a product to a specific locale and the issue of cultural appropriateness falls within the scope of localization. Swastikas of any kind are just not found on products found in the US due to their association with **** Germany.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika#Controversies_over_Asian_products

I don't really see much of any localization effort in the actual game outside of simple translation.

You know what, everything from the armory, other than the arrows, has so far provided to be COMPLETELY useless.

Go in, buy a lower level piece of gear for 'cheap'. Guess what?

I purchased a Loyalty Warbow, hoping it would be better than my Two socket Unicorn +3. Guess what?

The Loyalty Warbow has a 7 day timer on it!

So, for 108k and 123 contri points a week, I can buy an unrefinable, unsellable, 0 socket unshardable bow that does less damage than a Unicorn with no shards in it, at +2?

What a waste. And this makes me wonder if these **** EXPENSIVE items have timers on them as well, since you know, that seems to be happening A LOT lately!

And we'll have timers here too, because the Devs were busy playing with dragonflies. >_>

I think a lot of people feel... A bit beyond ripped off for even getting a guild base, in the smaller factions anyway.

Pretty sure neither symbol are chinese characters unless you mean possibly some ancient chinese writing. However it is not a swastika, it's the reverse which is a buddhist symbol. I can't imagine where you geth "wan" from.

You shouldn't talk about prices being prohibitive to your game play, when other people have been saying the same thing for a long time. You've been pretty nasty to them too. By the very definition of the best, not every one can be the best. The Incredibles actually say it best "with everybody super, no one would be." So to say that the average player shouldn't complain when everything good is given to the best 3% and that the pwi income gap is ever widening and causing a larger gap in power and then turn around and QQ because you can't get your way all the time is ridiculous. And guess what, a designer handbag really isn't all that different from a regular handbag. It does the same thing, some of the non designer ones look better. But its a status symbol to get the designer one. Just like if someone got the billion coin weapon, it would just to be to show off that they could. So guess what, just like you tell the people in smaller factions to stop QQing because thats just how things work. You shouldn't complain about this. If you're as rich as you say you are, and if its as easy to get the billion back as you make it out to be it shouldn't be a problem.

yeah and think about it 12k for a 30 minute buff that goes away. 960 mil for an item that is permanent. you will end up spending way more then 960mil on buffs in the long run. besides you said you would pay people 2 mirages per buff, so thats 24k per buff. and thats just for attack level 3. now add up the cost.

lolwut? Where did you learn math? At 24k per 30 min buff you can keep yourself permanently buffed for over 2 years and 3 months straight (i.e. 24hrs per day, never logged off) before you burn through 960 mil. A somewhat more realistic scenario of keeping yourself buffed for 8hrs a day, you could go over 6 years 9 months and still not waste 960 mil.

Basically, you will never spend more on mirage buffs (at the current or near current prices).

The Wiktionary entry for the symbol under Mandarin calls it "wan" (with an acute accent on the "a", which I avoided since I know some non-ANSI symbols break posts).

    *sigh*. this, again?

swastikas are among the oldest symbols humans have used; cavemen were scribbling them, in both directions, on rocks thousands of years ago. predictably, they've had time to be used to symbolize most anything you can think of over that long a time. they're often called "sun wheels", but don't think the sun's the only thing people have linked them to.

and then there was twenty, thirty years or so on one continent when and where one version of the blasted thing got used to symbolize some really nasty junk. that does not eradicate thousands of years of other uses of the symbol, in countless other minor variations, by other cultures all over the globe. it probably wasn't even the first time some swastika or other got temporarily used for to symbolize truly bad ****.

two thousand years from now almost nobody will remember the third reich, but there will still be swastikas. get over it.

Possibly, but there's still a chance that on a historic scale, WW2 could very well be forgotten about by the general public. Or it's facts altered significantly in school texts to the point that it becomes mostly a myth. Kinda like how America's school texts are right now.

    Hey guys,

I know a lot of you are shocked about the recent General Summer's Sale items and their pricing. PWI has been out for 2+ years now, and even finding someone in full Rank 8 is still very rare, let alone Rank 9. Under the original conditions, even one player on a server obtaining a rank 9 ring would have been next to impossible, considering the amount of rep, chips, and Medals of Glory necessary. Remember, these original conditions were created by developers from a different country and different gaming culture--one where it is commonplace and even expected to play for eight hours a day, every day--a place where level 105 was achieved within three months of its release.

It's no secret that obtaining this gear has been next to impossible for the vast majority of PWI players, and a lot of our work in the past month has involved bringing it within reach, both through the Dragon Points system and through this month's sales.

We realize that some of the players who are the most upset are those who have spent countless hours farming their TT and Nirvana gear, only to see this Rank gear that is more powerful now take less effort to obtain. I understand the frustration that is felt from this, but the nature of the MMO is to constantly be evolving over time, where more powerful gear is constantly made available, rendering older gear less powerful by comparison. Many of these players have decided to take action, adapting by selling their old gear for millions of coins to buy gold and start making their way toward Rank 8.

PWI is evolving. We realize that one of the major complaints about the Rising Tide expansion was that we were too focused on creating the new races and classes, and didn't create enough new content for the existing high level players. Let me assure you that this has been taken into account with the upcoming Genesis expansion. We are bringing in tons of new content which includes new end-game features that involve more guild and TW related mechanisms, along with a ton of other stuff.

In the past few weeks we've been spending a lot of time pooling and putting together lots of new information about this huge expansion, and we'll be releasing it to you in a very fun way next week.

There is a lot of exciting content on the horizon, and we hope that you'll continue to stick with us to enjoy everything that we have to offer.

    Thanks all.

frankie ura smart guy now how about making those vitstones n guild base cheap so i can buy a bunch
