This would not be a subject if the game wouldn't let u run 2 games at the same time on the same pc.
ok cumputer heads get to it and make it sob:chuckle

It's a trap... They tempt ppl into it and then ban them... b:irritated

If you only want to keep a cat shop up.

Go and get a used laptop for like $100, it wont be able to do much but it should be able to AFK with a cat shop up.

I found that with each addition to the game it becomes more difficult to run the game on the system requirements it claims it runs on... that is not a solution... maybe a $200 laptop... oh **** it buy a new laptop or desktop with 3 times the system requirements.... or 4...

    I find even a $100 laptop is over-kill.

I have two junk laptops I use. One, a circa-2005 Toshiba Satellite A10, cost me $29.99 from Salvation Army, and the other is an even older Toshiba Satellite 1000 hand-me-down.

Both work flawlessly as cat-shops, and the game is even quite playable on the A10.

    b:laugh Is that your rig(s)?

Yup,, that'z my current setup, almost. Just recently added a 3rd Keyboard and mouse and another PC to the left of the Black PC, that way i can work on the new Class and have my Cleric overhead for buffz and healing, and when needed I can call on my Tank for his buffz also. 8>)

As it is, with the topics in this Thread, the only PC in the pic I really paid for was the Main one in Middle and the Black tower, the rest I got for doing PC repair/build work for other people, and I usually end up with the old parts and stuff.

If ya want free PC'z, learn how to repair/build them hehehe

Question has been answered. It is not allowed.

Except: Once upon a time, you could not get two copies of the game to run without modding it. And, back then, when moderators talked about the ban on multi-clienting, they were saying that this was the reason multi-boxing was legal and multi-clienting was bannable. So my understanding was that they were saying that multi-clienting would be legal if it were possible to do without modding.

Back then, if you had the game running, and you double clicked on elementclient.exe, you would not get another running copy of the game. Instead you got a little chinese error alert pop-up.

Nowadays, we seem to have a ban on multiclienting held over from those days. But we have no new rationale for the ban. That said, I have seen a recent moderator post stating that the ban is currently in place, which I imagine overrides statements way back when made by people that have long since moved on to other jobs.

So, yes, it is not allowed. But the reasons now are new and different from how things used to be. And that in and of itself is information.

ya well.... you just hit MY reason for bringing this up in this thread on the nail (head.. w/e). There IS no reason for being banned for this anymore. Since that WAS their reason, the game (and to head off any more arguments... i mean loading the game the way you're MEANT to) wouldn't let you do it..... yet now it does. And I see Frankie has YET to get in this thread and give a valid reason. why am i not surprised... even after 3 pms.

How many times do we have to keep saying this is wrong before people actually take hold of it?

    Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

No, it's true, true, true. We're talking a couple of years ago, but it *was* required for the first few months of PWI. Then, for some period of time you could start multiple copies by bypassing the launcher (starting elementclient.exe directly). At some point, even that requirement went away, and you can start multiple clients using the launcher. Again, been able to start multiclients without modding for a while now, though, so it's understandable that many people assume it's always been that way.

But most of the discussion about multi-clienting started after that period anyway. GMs have stated that it is against rules many many times after it was possible to do it without modding.

Of course it has. When it was necessary to mod the files, so few people had the understanding and the means to do it that it was a non-issue (wrt PWI at least). It's only after *anyone* could do it that the discussions started.

Bottom line is that whether it is easy or difficult, whether or not it violates the TOS or not, whether it is detectable or not, PWI staff have repeatedly over the last few years been unwilling to change they're stance. It is not allowed and it is a bannable offense. They don't have to give a reason -- in fact I wasn't able to find a single post by a GM that *did* give a reason. It's been a longstanding rule and is not going to change.
