My view, should anyone else need it or be interested... Personally I'd own up, irrespective of the character and class played, it is still the same person playing the game, whether or not the perceived gender of that player has changed in the eyes of the other gamers. If they had fun playing the game and generally chatting with you and, effectively joining in with this lark (albeit unknowingly to them) and they want to blow you out for your honesty, more fool them.

So i was playing and got a random invite to a faction and accepted it, this was my first MMO and i didnt knew there were a lot of G.I.R.L.'s so i started to roleplay my char in faction chat pretending i was a girl irl and all, i was too embarrased to admit i was really a guy and that i made this super hot char and such, you know. The problem is i've made some real friendship bonds with some ppl, we tell each other's problems, make jokes and have fun together, and i really apreciate them and i know they like me too, and although i've been completely sincere in everything (except the being a guy part :P) i feel like i've been lying to them all this time and feel terribly guilty about it and i feel like telling them the truth at this point will really hurt and disappoint them cause i took it so far (i was maid of honor of one of my friends and gonna be also for another one soon :P) and im affraid they will hate me, i cant really explain it but we've grown really close; but i also want them to get to know the real me and be completely sincere. Real life sucks lately and i found a refuge in this game and those ppl
So i dont know what to do: keep up the role play, uncover myself, quit that char and start over again, quit the game without telling the truth, quit after telling the truth or what
Im really confused and im sorry for that boring wall of text and for any mistakes i made (english is not my first language), if you're still reading this please leave a comment or suggestion, they will be apreciated, even if they're from trolls because it will mean i cought their attention

If u read the original post carefully you will find out i made a fem char because i liked the looks but then was too embarrased to admit that to the point i lyed to keep it up and had to keep lying to mantain it, as they say: if you lie you'll have too keep lying to keep it up, and that was my big mistake
All that hatred in you post makes me believe that maybe you wanted to make a female character too, but didnt have the balls or weren't as certain of your own gender and got scared that you might actualy end up believing your own lie.

Dude, i've been on the dating scene for close to 20 years and let me tell you, this is bull. I've never known anyone to take a tranny home thinking that they were with a girl. It doesn't happen. What i've seen happen is drunks that didn't care much about their date's gender, somehow half expected it wasn't going to come up during sex (!?) and freaked out the second things became all too real. I remember this one time a friend and i were out on a bender and we ended up in something like a **** bar on a very seethy part of Mexico City. I had a blast, even ended up being invited to sit on the table of the top divas in that place. So, i was just having a good time with all the drag queens (they even bought me some drinks, and yes, i danced with them) while my friend was sulking in a corner making the ocassional homophobic remark. Whatever... Long story short when i decide is time for me to leave, this guy wants to stay back and "hang around" a little while longer. Next day he calls and tries to sell me on the whole "i got tricked" story. I mean we were in a freaking **** bar! You'd think you'd realize there's a pretty good chance not everyone wearing a dress was a woman. I mean come on!
I'm secure and confident enough in my own sexuality that if i ever wanted to "experiment" i would have no trouble doing it. The thing is that even if i tried i would not be attracted to anything other than women. You can tell the difference. Even wearing the same perfume they smell different. I mean come on, if you reach out to hold a girl's hand and don't find it odd it's the same size as yours there must be something wrong. And deep down all these people trying to sell you this tale must've known the truth. I suspect many people don't really want to find out. They may even marry in game but don't want to know the truth. Because deep down they are well aware of what is it they're doing. i am a girl who plays a veno, a male cleric and a male sin and apart from everybody elses comments, i have to say this, people assume i am a guy or a girl depending on the char i play, i m always just as i am, friendly or bitchy or stoic or whatever and i dont go around telling ppl my gender, its not a secret either. if it comes out that i am not the gender they assumed, its their fault for stereotyping genders, attributing some behaviours to some genders. thats nothing for me to feel emberrased or guilty about. theres a fine line between being flirty and nice/friendly. again its not your fault if your friendly attitude is recieved as flirty by the assumption of other ppl. i think you should just come out and say that, yeah you re a guy and you didnt intend for everybody to assume you were girl. cuz imho they really shouldnt have, especially with a veno.
and also, i know there were **** loads of threads about this, but what if a guy wants to play mostly solo, be able to tame and lure? if its impossible to have a male veno installed in the game, we as players, shouldnt be shocked to hear a guy playing a veno, or make it into a QQ joke like "yeah all veno s are fat *** guys.." well i m not and even if i was, i would have the right to play a tamer, lurer, solo class etc, whats the fuss about the genders of chars and players.. (the last QQ added because when i play male char and ppl learn i m a girl they ask the same maddening question "then why do you play a male char?" just for the fun of it? isnt that what a game is for? its like asking "why are you wearing a green shirt today? why did you wear a red one yesterday?" its an effin game just like its an effing shirt)0 -

when I play a video game I do not expect anyone to be what they appear to be... just like for instance I would not expect someone playing a barbarian to be some big guy in a furry suit or if I'm playing a FPS I don't expect the players to be military members. You should just tell them.
The person who those people made friends with was still you, even if you roleplayed acting in a different way.
You still talked to them about different things and they liked talking to you.
If they are true friends then they should be able to understand.
I myself am a Girl but I have a Barb.
If anyone actually says to me "Are you a girl" then I will tell them but otherwise, I really do not care what gender people want to think I am.
If you was to be my friend and was to say to me that you was a Guy then the most which you would hear back from me is "Oh, ok"
I really would not care. You would still be the same person who I made friends with after all.
I would not call you being male in real life but female in the game a lie anyway because anyone can be any gender in MMO games and so you never really know what gender the other person is.
So really, to me, it does not matter because a Guy Char in game could be a Girl and the other way around but who really cares?
MMO games are not date services after all so normally people should take what happens in a game with a grain of salt.
It is a fantasty land after all and does not need to obey real life rules or gender laws.
A MMO game is just fun so people should not get so upset if you tell them what your real gender is.
They should know anyway that someone can be either gender unless they have the mind set of "A MAN would NEVER pick a GIRL char because then they would be GAAAAAY LOLOLOLOLOLOL"

I was RPG'ing girl char for something about a year, and believe me i was hoe. Had few bf's/gf's cybering with most of them,
Well i got bored after some time, so what i did? I told friends, and rerol male char, rest think i just quit leaving wet memories ;p

Overall it was fun XD

Well in my opinion it depends on how far u took your role-playing role... I never forgave a guy who told me he was a female in my first MMO... We shared alot of personal information. He even went so far as describing having horrible that time of the month Cramps, and me being a girl gave him advice. If you just said you were a girl when u started most players no this game is 80% male players. So don't worry, and Tranny's are always accepted. But if you did some things like the person i mentioned and MORE. I would never tell, cause they might no be able to accept what was discussed with the same sex!!! This is so funny. In part because OP is having second thoughts about being honest, and coming out. Hmmm... tell me, in the 9 months you've been roleplaying, do you really think the guys you were talking to/cybering with were real guys? and do you think the girly friends you made were real girls? hehe

I'll tell you this: experienced gamers can tell by instinct, NOT by deduction, wether they're encountering a real male or female person in game, but they play along, just to see where you're getting at, and have fun seeing you wiggle your way out of scenarios they are setting up for you. You are pathetic. Not for roleplaying, but for coming here and expose your messed up decisions. Of course you're a loser, as in someone who can't stand by their own decision, as in someone who wanted to try cuddling up to other males without really doing it... that kind of G.A.Y. aspect.
You're so centered on your very fuzzy navel, you don't realize how many people you would hurt by telling the truth. I have a (very hetero) friend who was married (in game) to another player whom he was certain was female for over one year. A few weeks ago, he learns that "she" is a male, and they had a very real relationship, on skype, msn, etc. The voice part was prolly explained/changed somehow, but he never suspected, he had so much trust in that person and really loved her (him).
When he learned the truth, he nearly committed suicide and saved in extremis. He's 16 years old. The other guy (his sweetheart) must have been much older and knew how to manipulate him. He had to quit school, his parents were worried about his mental state (depression), and it's turned ugly. He left the game altogether.
This is one consequence of taking RolePlaying too far. If you think you can come out and tell everyone "Gotcha", you're very stupid. If you think that telling just a few friends the truth, you'll be in for a surprise. Everyone will know. They will v.o.m.i.t on you.
They might not say it, but they will. Best thing is to re-roll and forget about your friends. Because no matter how you try to change your style, male or female, there will always be, to them, that "deja-vu" feeling that will remind them of your **** character.

way too big a deal made of this. when i met my hubby in game he had made it to marshal position with everyone just assuming he was a girl. it was only when he took me aside and said uh..im a dude when anyone actualy found out and the reaction was pretty much "meh".
